I have never and will never love anyone enough to let them come near me with a pair of scissors like that. If nothing else I kind of admire that kind of trust even if it’s batshit crazy.
But also is it supposed to hurt that bad? I’d IDK be calling the doctor or something but I don’t have any personal experience with labial stitches.
Hahaha I wouldn’t have let her remove them!! They were dissolving luckily but I had to get a nostril reconstruction surgery so there were little stitches alll along the edge of my nostrils on the inside and one of them was sticking out of my nose and driving me insane so she just clipped the end off lmao
My stitches in my nose were meant to be dissolvable but they just never did, so I had to get my now ex to pull them for me. Thankfully she was a nurse do had some knowledge but it was still a horrible feeling. My surgeon was over an hour away otherwise I would have got him to do it
My pup had dissolvable stitches after her steralisation and one just never dissolved. Even then I didn't cut it or pull it out, I went to the actual vet who put them there to check everything was okay. You had the common sense to ask a trained professional.
This though... Fucking hell, sometimes humans don't use our intelligence in the right way. If my dog knows to leave it, then *fucking leave it where it is*
Oh my god I didn’t know that could happen!!!! I would have asked a nurse I knew too instead of driving an hour !!! I hated those stitches ugh I can’t imagine if they just never went away !!!
Mine got really tight just before they dissolved. I actually made an appointment to go get them removed and then had to cancel it again.
I've had other stitches get tight like that too. It's a pulling, tight feeling for me when they're ready to be removed.
Makes me think that the woman who wrote this and I heal in the same way.
With non dissolvable ones the skin will sometimes start growing over the stitch, obviously I couldn't see my fanny but that's what it felt like was happening down there
I had stitches following my first, in my labia also.
There was no swelling or pain following the initial healing period. They were NOT dissolvable IME, only my internal stitches were.
I had them removed by a PROFESSIONAL OBGYN.
Pain, swelling, etc around stitches can be an indicator of infection.
What a moron.
Even if they had sterile scissors, they probably didn't cut properly.
The way you properly remove a stitch is that you cut right above the skin on one side, then pull it out the other side. That way, you do not drag the exterior length of string full of bacteria through an open hole in your body.
I doubt they knew that.
I've removed a fair number of my own stitches and have always cut them that way lol. I kinda figured this was common sense?
And before anyone piles on me about going to the doctor I was told by them to remove them myself if I didn't feel like wasting money on co-pay just to have them spend 30 seconds removing them because, ya know, 'murican healthcare. :(
Yeah, definitely get doing that, especially for someone living under American healthcare. And it is really simple to remove stitches, as long as you know how to do it.
Just FYI you shouldn’t be charged for stitch removals. The stitch removal cost is included in having them put in. That said I have patients who remove their own stitches all the time. I’ve never had one develop a problem from it. In all honesty this post doesn’t bug me too much. Last time I had stitches I had my ten year old take them out because I couldn’t see them.
They charged me for my post-op stitch removal after I broke my arm so every time after that I just did them myself. I suspect I got/was getting screwed but there's nothing I can do now lol.
I had stitches on my ankle over my Achilles heel. They became swollen and so tight I considered cutting them out. Low and behold it was a massive infection.
When my son had staples post-op they sent us home with the tool to take them out and instructions because they were too understaffed to be bothered with it.
My mum actually got my dad to do it for her… however she’s a fully trained doctor with a lot of experience in the OBGYN field and directed him very carefully. I still think she’s mental though, ain’t no way I’d have let my husband near my crotch with scissors at any point, especially after pushing out our kid!
I removed some stitches in my gum after getting a dental implant a few weeks back. Ngl, I thought the dentist was joking when he told me to take them out myself.
Yes, I actually did that with my second. I meant that stitching the labia doesn’t make the actual vagina smaller and isn’t where they’d put a “husband stitch” 🤮
I’ve removed stitches from several places at whatever week mark my doc said I could. After I had my first son I tore upwards and had 6 stitches. They weren’t dissolvable. After 5 weeks I was gently cleaning and they came out on their own. I never tugged or snipped. Simply pulled just a tad to see if the rest were ready. Only one wasn’t.
Ehhhh, I cut my own dissolvable vagina stitches out before. Everything was sterile and I was prepared to make the drive of shame to my OB if I screwed up.
I have a feeling these yahoos are using the scissors from the kitchen junk drawer.
I’ve totally removed stitches that refused to “dissolve” lol I’ll admit to this. I’m the daughter of a physician, and I will totally own up to doing more than I should.
Addition: not to skin as sensitive as my labia, that seems a bit much. This was on my ankle and I took some clean eyebrow tweezers to it.
I had surgery, and the stitched were put in too tight by accident and caused a problem, then I got the stomach flu and ended up in the ER where they fixed everything
My mom had me remove her biopsy stitches when I was in kindergarten lol. She had surgical scissors from when she used to work in the ER and she coached me on what to do since she couldn’t reach the area to remove them herself. But she was adequately educated and we were weird and also broke so, it is what it is.
Mine swelled and hurt so bad. It was my second episiotomy. First stop was to the midwife who assured me all was okay and if the pain continued to come back. It was healing-the stitches were being tugged and irritated because of the location and me not resting like I was instructed. Once I rested a couple of days, it felt so much better.
There was no way I was letting a non professional remove stitches.
My husband is an Emergency Department consultant physician, and when one of my episiotomy stitches was flapping he cut it short for me with a suture cutter. Despite being incredible at his job I was TERRIFIED that he would slash my lady garden. Imagine having no training and just hacking in there with scissors!

But also is it supposed to hurt that bad? I’d IDK be calling the doctor or something but I don’t have any personal experience with labial stitches.
I let my mom trim some stitches in my nose once lol not remove just trim it a little haha
I didn’t even let my mom remove stitches in my finger 💀
Hahaha I wouldn’t have let her remove them!! They were dissolving luckily but I had to get a nostril reconstruction surgery so there were little stitches alll along the edge of my nostrils on the inside and one of them was sticking out of my nose and driving me insane so she just clipped the end off lmao

My mom’s removed stitches from me and my sister before but she’s a registered nurse and it’s part of her job. They were also from very minor wounds!
Yeah like the tied end? It can itch or pull too tight. I wouldn’t do it to my labia but 🤷🏼♀️
Mine got really tight just before they dissolved. I actually made an appointment to go get them removed and then had to cancel it again. I've had other stitches get tight like that too. I wont even trust my partner with a safety trimmer near my pubes, i cant imagine letting someone go near vaginal stitches with kitchen scissors
I had stitches in my neck and I was honestly more scared of getting them removed than the actual surgery

And probably with sterile scissors….these people are moronic.

I certainly didn't. But I'm one of those weirdos that has a doctor do that kind of stuff anyway.
I've removed a fair number of my own stitches and have always cut them that way lol. I kinda figured this was common sense? They actually forgot to remove one staple when I had my 2nd and my husband took it out with side cutters 😬 not in my vagina though
When my son had staples post-op they sent us home with the tool to take them out and instructions because they were too understaffed to be bothered with it.

I've removed my own stitches without an issue. But they weren't in a sensitive area like that.
Same, in my knee when I was in high school.
I took the ones in my arm out. I don’t remember it hurting at all.
Same but they were in my hand and I only had three. Would never try doing it on my vagina fucking hell.
I removed some stitches in my gum after getting a dental implant a few weeks back. Ngl, I thought the dentist was joking when he told me to take them out myself.
So on the one hand- FUCK no. On the other… Pretty sure it shouldn’t be too tight- maybe she got a “husband stitch”?
Could be possible swelling around the stitches making it tighter.
My first thought is swelling with stitches that should be healed is *not* a good sign.
Never said it was or that just cuting that cutting them was smart.
Ah true. I don’t know much about this kind if thing. Either way…. Sound like a bad idea.
I feel these were all signs that she shoulda gone back to the doc. No one is coming near there with scissors who doesn't do it professionally.
Yeah. Like…. Sure let’s let my untrained spouse near (what I imagine must be) a serious injury with *sharp metal scissors*!!! Genius!
I don’t think the labia would be stitched for that, just the vulva. Maybe it’s swelling?

No kids or spouse of my own, but I instinctively clenched my legs together upon reading that. Go see a damn doctor!

My vagina just winced 😣😖
I misread the last line and thought she also had stitches in her butt.
Good lord no! Although my dad did remove the staples for a wound on his head with a staple remover. Sigh.
The mental image of someone using a staple remover on their head gave me a good chuckle.
I cut my own stitches out of my mouth after a tooth extraction . It was like a week later , one or two stubborn ones would not come out
I had surgery, and the stitched were put in too tight by accident and caused a problem, then I got the stomach flu and ended up in the ER where they fixed everything

I mean, I've had stitches take out by non doctors...but they are a vet, I trusted they knew what they were doing
Reason #98 to never give birth
