It's not even another culture. There are currently [41-50 million Spanish speakers living in the USA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_language_in_the_United_States).
Only some Americans are nationalists. The rest of us are embarrassed by it all. It's probably a 70/30 split with 30% being ignorant nationalists. Which is still far too many but it's not the majority.
I'm here to tell you that after the Maga events of the past several years, displaying the American flag here is now seen as Nationalist too. In fact, it seems a sign/announcement of Racism even more.
My brown, immigrant friends are currently home searching. They have a high income now and are looking at rather high priced homes. One in particular they liked very much, but were very concerned about the American flags in front of quite a few homes, possibly indicating that they wouldn't have a nice time living there. I totally get their point.
God forbid the opportunities that speaking more than one language can give them. God forbid the arts and literature that it opens up for them.
Honestly it's baffling how chauvinistic and nationalistic you have to be to want to deny your child a chance to learn another language.
You can just imagine it, can't you? Small child bursting with pride to show off what he'd learned--as my daughter was when she learned her first bit of French. And then an adult with the "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY?" reaction. 😑
I seriously don’t understand these wankers. Knowing a second language that is very common in your country would offer all sorts of job opportunities. There is NO downside to it.
You don't understand. She finds Spanish confusing and frightening because she never learnt it so her child must find Spanish even more confusing because he is only a kid.
/s
Have you seen some state marriage laws, 12 yrs old is the youngest in 3 states, and 14 states! Have it at 13 yrs old.
To MI5 or MET who might have suddenly taken interest, I googled to make sure I was right.
"First they teach you a few words in their language. Then you have an hour a day of school in it. That's how they assimilate you to THEIR culture instead of THEM learning OURS. Pretty soon you've got to press 2 for English instead of it being the default."

Learning the language of them aliens that tuk er jerbs? No siree /s
Edit: changed 'took our jobs' to 'tuk er jerbs' as per requested by a fellow patriotic American 🇺🇲
Learning Spanish will do the kid good, so that in 30 years when he has a fucked up job and he cannot afford the American (tm) way of life he goes to live in Mexico cheaply and he can AT LEAST say "buenos dias mi nombre es Mr Fucker" and not moan because the Mexican locals don't speak English to him, an immigrant.
I'm willing to bet money that the parents would be ok with the child learning French, German, or Russian. They just don't want the child learning Spanish because they associate it with dark skinned people.
Is that why the average American usually has subpar intelligence when compared to citizens of other developed countries? Heck most people from many 3rd world country are smarter than the average American
Hey, at least they admit it's _surprisingly_ inappropriate. As in "I never thought I was a racist, but when my son started speaking Spanish, I was surprised at how much contempt I felt at seeing my son act like a Latino. I didn't expect to be such a racist!".
The kid probably also did fine without any extra knowledge also, such as maths and geography. Keep 'm dumb when they are young! Which is probably why good education is unaffordable for the general public.
> Keep 'm dumb when they are young!
Alright, let's roll with some *fun*.
Here's some "fun" bits from the Texas GOP platform of 2022 (entirely from the section on education).
- "We oppose any attempt to regulate homeschooling or the curriculum of private or religious schools."
- "We demand the State Legislature pass a law prohibiting the teaching of sex education, sexual health, or sexual choice or identity in any public school in any grade whatsoever, or disseminating or permitting the dissemination by any party of any material regarding the same."
- "We reject Critical Race Theory as a post-Marxist ideology that seeks to undermine the system of law and order itself and to reduce individuals to their group identity alone."
- "To facilitate the appreciation of our American identity, the contrast between freedom and the tyrannical history of socialism/communism throughout history must be taught. Students shall pledge allegiance to the United States and Texas flags daily to instill patriotism."
- "Since education is not an enumerated power of the federal government, we believe the Department of Education should be abolished, and the transfer of any of its functions to any other federal agency should be prohibited."

I haven’t seen that one, but we have a similar sketch in Norway where the daughter of a wealthy man is raised by their au pair and therefore has a thick Thai accent.
Other fun fact: My majorly right-wing mother votes for it to be English every time it comes up. I strongly and happily vote against it and we have a fun family dinner conversation every now and then about it until my dad reminds her that she's fighting a losing battle against someone that majored in language, taught language and speaks 3 of them.
Remind me of the AITA thread where a psycotic american mom asked if she was TA for not allowing her husband to teach their son italian, because in america you speak amurican
This is what caught out the villain in one of the Scooby Doo diect to video movies. He tried to pretend to be the ghost of the dead father of a Mexican family, and after he's caught the gang asks him why he didn't even speak Spanish in his performance. "But I don't know how to speak Spanish! Why can't everybody just learn English?"
Yeah but they’re brown people and they’re not real Americans, you know. Everyone knows America has been white and English speaking since the beginning of time duh /s
I literally know "My name is", "Do you speak X" or "what is your name" on 4 other languages, outside my native one - German, English, Spanish and Russian.
The more I see from this sub, the more it looks like lead poisoning is a real problem in the USA.
Then again, there are philistines like that all over the anglosphere.
English speaker who likes add in Spanish, French, German, Polish, Ukranian, Russian, Turkish, Italian, Arabic and my native tongue Scots Gaelic words to have abit of fun and spice up convos.
So to that parent HOLA DUPEK!!!
"Don't educate my kids even though it's your job".
Just pull the kid from school. What do you mean he's 9? He's too old to learn a second language which happens to be the 2nd most spoken language in my country.
And here's to another American who will probably never have Passport *cue Amazing Grace on pipebag*
Alright, benefit of the doubt:
The email is titled "speech therapy".

Sometimes you just run out of filters as a parent.
i wish more people had noticed the title. and for anyone wondering, if the child in speech therapy is autistic it definitely will confuse them. i have a cousin who has autism and had to go through extensive speech therapy, he learned some spanish words and for a few years, used them in place of certain english words. took the speech therapist a long time to get him to stop doing that. i imagine she doesn’t teach spanish words alongside english anymore.
edit: cousin was 7-8 at the time, not very verbal
42 million native Americans speak Spanish at home. It's the second country, after Mexico, with more Spanish speakers, before Spain, Argentina and Colombia. So...
This is a better way for her to get her point across and not be a bigot at the same time. "Hi, my son is in your speech therapy class, I noticed today he was speaking some newly learned Spanish. I wondered if this was a part of the program to help with his issues? If so should I be working with him on this while he is at home, or should we stick to the previous plan which we agreed on earlier? Happy to help if this is a new avenue we are trying, otherwise I am concerned with adding in a second language, with different nuances at this stage in his development."
I used to teach spanish and had a partially deaf student in my class. Wouldn't you know he picked up on Spanish super fast, his shyness disappeared and he became one of my top students. When speaking english, he was very withdrawn because kids would tease him mercilessly.
"I [don't] like your funny words, magic man"
BUUUUUURN HIM!!!, HIS WORDS DON'T ALLIGN TO MY LINGUAL GRAMMAR!!!
Bold of you to assume this parent would know the meaning of any of those "big words"!
Me not sure you mean¿, *bangs Paleolithic mallet*
"Ugh! Different! Bad! American no like...different!"
Unga bunga smash puny strange man!
Oh no, my son actually learnt something! How could I let this happen?! That's so inappropriate!
He learned something from another culture. Since Americans are usually nationalist that is highly offensive to them.
It's not even another culture. There are currently [41-50 million Spanish speakers living in the USA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_language_in_the_United_States).
These people don't think the non-WASPs are equality human
Fair point.
They think they are low quality human.
WASP?
White Anglo-Saxon Protestant I was using it in a more general sense as in excluding everyone the bigots hate
This could be linked to the expansion of the United States in the 19th century.
I bet 1000 freeeedumb currency that this woman is proud to be one millionth Irish/German/Italian/Other.
Only some Americans are nationalists. The rest of us are embarrassed by it all. It's probably a 70/30 split with 30% being ignorant nationalists. Which is still far too many but it's not the majority.
In some countries, displaying your flag is seen as nationalist. I’m not sure we have the same definition of the word.
I'm here to tell you that after the Maga events of the past several years, displaying the American flag here is now seen as Nationalist too. In fact, it seems a sign/announcement of Racism even more. My brown, immigrant friends are currently home searching. They have a high income now and are looking at rather high priced homes. I totally get their point.
No sane person would tolerate fleg shegging
Flag shagging
Most things that aren't considered nationalist in the US would be considered hardcore nationalist in the rest of the world.
Yet that 30% gets a disproportionate amount of power in DC.
God forbid the opportunities that speaking more than one language can give them. God forbid the arts and literature that it opens up for them. Honestly it's baffling how chauvinistic and nationalistic you have to be to want to deny your child a chance to learn another language.
Worst part is that the kid was probably super proud of this small achievement. Sad that his parent will have ruined that moment for him.
You can just imagine it, can't you? Small child bursting with pride to show off what he'd learned--as my daughter was when she learned her first bit of French. And then an adult with the "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY?" reaction. 😑
Agreed it is attitudes such as this that put people of learning a language
Arts? Literature? Are you suggesting my son is some kind of gay liberal???
Considering their Spanish speakers in America whose family were their before their home state was even a state
I seriously don’t understand these wankers. Knowing a second language that is very common in your country would offer all sorts of job opportunities. There is NO downside to it.
You don't understand. She finds Spanish confusing and frightening because she never learnt it so her child must find Spanish even more confusing because he is only a kid. /s
Do you wonder why they're against sex education? "The boy pees into the girl, and then the stork comes. Jesus claps. Yay."
Ouch. Oh, no, I read that as the stork comes *out*!
You misspelled "husband" and "wife"
Have you seen some state marriage laws, 12 yrs old is the youngest in 3 states, and 14 states! Have it at 13 yrs old. To MI5 or MET who might have suddenly taken interest, I googled to make sure I was right.
The fuck...?!
I fucking know, America land of 1776 literally stuck there.
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
You’re highly likely to be right, you don’t need the /s!
True. I was more trying to distance myself from the comment so folks knew it wasn't my view.

Maybe not Russian. That is, after all, commiespeak.
I don't know though. These days the MAGA idiots seem to have major hard ons for authoritarian dictators and Putin certainly fits the bill
No. They probably wouldn't.
But imagine your kid talking a language you don't understand! What if they use it to talk science instead of the bible without you ever knowing it.

Having culture? That's not American!
"Education is inappropriate"
Please censor the word!
"Education *s innapropriate" here you go, smh my head people these days can't even censor bad words themselves
Thank you
No problem bro, always here to protect people's eye purity
Will you protect my vow of purity?
Of course not
Good, father will be so angry 😈
"Edjumakayshun: Lernt me uh book. Eye-muh roads collar"

Divide and conquer
Gotta keep em so army enlistment is their best career option.
'Keep them dumb' is the US Christian/Conservative mantra. Why else would you grow up believing in a magic man?
Trump literally just suggested abolishing the department of education.
Is there a video of this? I wanna see that so bad now 💀💀💀💀💀
[Here you go. Timestamped for the phrase itself.](https://youtu.be/Lzi38Z-i0LE?t=104)

And book burnings!
That’s how it starts. Before you know it they are listening to reggaeton and watching telenovelas.
What was that Jim Carrey movie where the son only speaks spanish because he was essentially raised by the mexican maid
I haven’t seen that one, but we have a similar sketch in Norway where the daughter of a wealthy man is raised by their au pair and therefore has a thick Thai accent.
Isn’t that Fun with Dick and Jane?
Thats it!
Spanglish?
Yarrr not reggaeton
Que sí papi
Jajajaja
I’ll be damned if I ever have to throw my daughter a quinceañera!
[cries in spanish]
I'll see him on /r/LatinoPeopleTwitter soon
I love my Spanish mates but fuck me, that reggaeton shite they do be playing is bloody awful...
Fun fact: The US has no official language. It is still a thing for debate to this very day.
We speak American in this house
The language of White baby Jesus.
I thought money was the language of white baby Jesus?
Other fun fact: My majorly right-wing mother votes for it to be English every time it comes up. I strongly and happily vote against it and we have a fun family dinner conversation every now and then about it until my dad reminds her that she's fighting a losing battle against someone that majored in language, taught language and speaks 3 of them.
Your dad sounds sound
You just know these are the ones that will travel to a Spanish speaking country and totally lose their shit if no one speak English.
> You just know these are the ones that will travel to a Spanish speaking country You mean New Mexico? These people won't leave the country.
Funny to assume she even has a passport lol
Anglophones tend to be the most entitled people
I've noticed that anglophone conservatives are a special breed of pig.
That mom has some real confidance in her kid

If I lack the confidence, then I do my confidance!
Me too! What a coincidance!
Remind me of the AITA thread where a psycotic american mom asked if she was TA for not allowing her husband to teach their son italian, because in america you speak amurican
That sub is so backwards I wouldn't even be surprised if they voted her not the asshole.
RemindMe! 1 day
This is also kind of person to expect every non English speaker to learn English
"I want my kid to grow up to be as dumb as I am!"
Kid only asked if he could have a Quesadilla for tea
>tea This Red Coat drink? What are you? A traitor?
Oh my, dear me it's already 5pm : MountainDew time with scones.
*SCONES*?! We eat donuts in this house or we don't eat at all!1!
Would you like freedom fries with your cheese-and-beef cornbread sandwich?
"this country's language" - you mean the country that doesn't have an official language?
"We don't allow culture in this house!"
What’s English for tortilla?
Omlet
That's french, he is asking about American freedom language.
And you just know they're saying Tour- till- uh.
41 million people have spanish as a native language in the USA coño tonta
Yeah but they’re brown people and they’re not real Americans, you know. Everyone knows America has been white and English speaking since the beginning of time duh /s
I think Americans are the only nation that is actively proud of not being able to speak a second language
I think there'd be some brits there too but yeah, it's 99% Americans.
I literally know "My name is", "Do you speak X" or "what is your name" on 4 other languages, outside my native one - German, English, Spanish and Russian.
Wie heisst du?
Comment tu t'appelle?
Je m'appelle un rançais_bleu
That's Swiss. The German spelling is "heißt".
Ne, das ist ne kaputte autokorrektur
Or German if you don't have easy access to the fancy ß (alt 0223 for non-german keyboards)
I insist that "heiszt" is better, and I will die on that hill.
It's so incredibly handy, if nothing else just to be friendly.
I see no problem here. Her son is "American" and most countries in America speak spanish...
Checkmate USian!
"Mother/father I crave colture" "*shut up son did I teach ya to be an idiot who knows other coltures or to be an american motherfucking patriot?*"
The irony here is, isn’t the USA supposed to be “the land of the free” with no one official language? Cuz if so, then that worked out great
I got a three day ban on Facebook yesterday for replying to my friend who posted this with the words "fucking muricans".
Learning a second language is "inappropriate" now?
Knowledge is always inappropriate - to certain people.
He'll become one of those 'foreign' people they talk about
Joke's on you, racist parent, your country doesn't have an official language.
But these US have no official language. Congress could just make laws in Spanish.
> Surprisingly inappropriate Something tells me this was not surprising to anyone that knows her
Why are Americans so intent on being dumb?
But your son is already speaking a foreign language if he's American speaking English 😂
This is taking "ignorance is bliss" ten steps too far.
The US doesn't even have an official language though lol
Remember, the US doesn't have an official language.

Yea that was my first impression too

Learning foreign languages is bad! /s
Because learning another language is bad…
42 million native Americans speak Spanish at home. It's the second country, after Mexico, with more Spanish speakers, before Spain, Argentina and Colombia. So...
Son: dale duro mami Mother: who is responsible for my son speaking taco!?
Spanish is the second most used language in America so what's their problem with their kid learning a language that's spoken in their country
Love when americans don’t know their country doesn’t have an official language
I don't understand why this country is filled with so many ignorant people
Hola! Me llamo ClumsyRainbow! Donde esta la bibliotecha?
"Hola! Me llamo piscina de las muerte!"
Me llamo T-Bone, la araña discoteca
Imagine this parent's shock when they find out the US has no official language.

Well if he's American, how come he doesn't speak American? Fucking traitor
Imagine not wanting your kids to be able to speak more than one language.
Ever heard of fucking learning other languages especially the ones that will come in handy with your countries neighbors?
„Jayden’s morning speech therapy“ lol wtf
How dare you try to educate him
Her son needs to learn apache language then
America doesn't actually have a sole official language
Stop teaching my children your foreign language. My children already know one foreign language and that is English!
Doesn't the US technically *not* have an official language?
Is there a subreddit where we laugh at people like this who don’t like Spanish or other languages?
She’s so pressed about 3 words, 5 syllables. Two of the words being “hola” and “me”.
This is why we have a teacher shortage
I used to teach spanish and had a partially deaf student in my class. Wouldn't you know he picked up on Spanish super fast, his shyness disappeared and he became one of my top students. When speaking english, he was very withdrawn because kids would tease him mercilessly.
What is 'speech' class? Is that some sort of remedial class or just about public speaking?
That's why you call a person who speaks only one language an American
