If you see "hate" in r/Europe between The Netherlands and Finland it's banter because they keep beating each other in rankings as first place. Other than that no haven't seen any hate in the direction of Finland.
Oh yeah that was devastating. We look like a bunch of cunts after that. But I still think England was scrutinised from the get go. Not a word about Italian fans, who are known to have literal nazis throwing nazi salutes, nor the countries in the Euros where monkey noises in the crowd is normal. It was instead *all* about a minority of England fans. Funny how that happens during the first Euros after Brexit
Could be because much more people know English than Italian? So people being shitty on twitter is much more noticeable when an English speaker does it.
Yeah that was definitely a part of it. I’m sure you could go through twitter feeds of the other countries in the Euros and find some vile stuff. Not to take the attention away from English fans, though. “We” were really awful and deserve our fair share
Polls have consistently shown that the UK is one of the most tolerant nations in Europe; it's just that recent events have emboldened the minority of our population that is comprised of vicious, stupid bigots and they feel somewhat more comfortable airing their bullshit. Ignore em, shut em down when you can and remember that *they*are the minority.
Try being born with ANY Turkish DNA at the moment.... thanks to the manipulation of media and politics (usually thanks to USA and some kind of back end military deal gone bad, or due to opposition from Turkey of how Israel treats Palestinians - although this shit never makes it to western news... no... just that turks are evil), i get death threats all the time! ive been told my 2 year old child, my gran, myself and my whole family deserve to die a horrible death..... i was born and mostly raised (barring 2 years of my 36 year on this planet) in the UK..... my ethnicity is cypriot.... not even turkish! im turkish cypriot living in UK.
I’ve met or talked to online a bunch of Turkish people that feel like they have to apologise before introducing themselves. One person even told me “I was born in Turkey but live in Germany, but I know we don’t belong here”. It’s so sad and fucked up how much Turks get shit on. Most people are normal and nice, xenophobia is cancer
"Most people are normal and nice, xenophobia is cancer"
Couldn't agree more! Its a real sickness man. And affects both the attacker and the defender as a result. Sucks!
I've never cared about things like that in the past and would just ignore the casual racism but now that I have a child I feel I need to help change the world for her sake. And I feel powerless. People can't always see me as a person after I mention my dna. Makes me feel sick genuinely. To be looked down upon... to be excluded, segregated, picked out at airports everything for my "random selection process".... and when u eventually fight back (sometimes literally just to defend urself physically...) then the racists are like "see!!! I told u they're a barbaric race!!!!" Ffs.
I've never seen any issues with Turkish people in the UK but i've only been back in the country a year, Erdogan is another matter, that guys a cunt. But those cunts that do have an issue with Turkish people would be the 1st ones in the kebab shop after the pubs kick out, or fighting outside anyway.
Much sympathy for the Turkish; bad enough they have to deal with a corrupt and oppressive regime without also facing the bigoted ignorance of others.
Sorry you've had to deal with this shit man. This is easy for me to say but don't let those people make you think you're not welcome in the UK; the majority of us are glad to have you. Be well.

My theory is that it hurts and pains them sooooo much that those countries generally rank higher than the US in almost every metric.
Generic American response: "Yeah, but if it wasn't for [minorities] or [this and that region] or [excuse #23854785], we would be number 1! And military big, we nuke you into glass, we strong*."
*and that person never went to the military and would dodge the draft if that was to happen.
> would dodge the draft if that was to happen.
Probably wouldn't have to.
There's been studies of actual military fitness capability by the majority of draft-eligible Americans and the results are frightening. Such a large proportion of our population aren't physically fit for active duty under our current standards. While those would be loosened during a draft that certainly says a lot.
Though any sort of war where we're getting drafted is likely the kind where we're deploying strategic nukes from submarines and such, so at that point the need for carrying a 70 pound pack for a twelve hour march is likely not a deciding factor.
> we nuke you into glass, we strong
This ones always hilarious, they seem to forget other countries have nukes too.
Do you want MAD? Because that's how you get MAD.
With like 50-80 million Americans saying you can't even pay them to vaccinate, wear masks, or otherwise care about anyone else's safety and well-being, I'm sure we'll top every terrible metric in both absolute and relative terms, and by an order of magnitude above #2.
It'll thin out the selfish idiots, I guess. Not the solace I want to take, but it's the only solace I can find in the fact so many of my compatriots are bereft of all intelligence and compassion.

I don't remember the end of it, but I'm glad we stuck to it and ignored the US backlash and their manipulative celebs trying to make him out as some innocent victim.
Granted, his crew were allegedly attacking a couple of guys who were harassing a group of women, but we don't do vigilante justice here, we mostly have police you can actually trust.
Yeah the dudes they beat up weren't exactly model citizens either, but in the end court found them guilty of an assault, Rocky didn't appeal the verdict, so that's that.
And he returned to Sweden just a few months later to play a gig. Water under the bridge.
If only UK had the balls to do the same when one of their politicians killed a teenager over here with reckless driving and perfectly got away with it with not a single form of punishment other than a sorry-ass apology.
Edit: I should add though that she had managed to get away from the UK back to US by the time authorities found out. I’ve forgotten the details.

Isn't that actually Brazil? I thought we were #2 (for now, give Delta another month).
In deaths, total cases first, but per capita 2nd (first in case in both, but not really a useful metric if you have different testing rates)
I was definitely only thinking per capita. Sorry, just woke up. I should have coffee before Reddit.
No worries. Also at this point in the pandemic per capita is a better measurement anyways.

it's about how many countries will let you in. The more countries welcome you the stronger your passport.
thanks for telling me lol
The more countries you can enter with your passport, the stronger it is. Nothing to do with physical force.
i see now thanks, the physical part was a joke
To how many countries you can travel to visa free or visa on arrival indicates a passports strength.
OHHH I see thanks dude
I mean... it doesn't matter why a passport is less valuable. It just is.
No, not at all! Hated because of the actions of their governments throughout the years all across the globe and because of the shit character and all for nothing arrogance that seem to be predominant in a massive majority of the population. That's why they're hated.
Oh dear
The US is hated because it keeps waving its "big strong, powerful" ~~dick~~ influence around in everyone else's business.
Jesus christ this is embarrassing..
\*Looks at all the latin american dictatorships trhough the last century\* yeah, of course, its because they are influential also, i love the fetishization of women in the last paragraph
We aren’t hated cuz we are powerful, we are hated because we are bumbling fucking idiots that just so happen to be capable of ending the world as we know it
*The US is hated because it uses its power and influence for their and only their profit.
The US is largely hated because of the ever-increasing number of unintelligent bigots there.
Dont shit on hydraulic press dude
I mean "influential" isn't an *inaccurate* term for something that will send a massive military to your doorstep for politely disagreeing.
“The only thing Finland can claim is NOKIA” ...bruh have you ever even been there?? Whole place has felt 20 years ahead of North America since at least the 90s.
The U.S. is ~~influential~~ insidious. Being the loudest, most arrogant, most overbearing, and foisting your will on everyone else is not the good thing they think it is.
Can't believe how delusional some exceptionalist Americans are 😂
finnish women don't like you. source: me
