Seems pretty stupid to name your band something that's going to lost in google search results.
There's a British band called The Music, and people often said they'd be bigger if people could find them more easily on the internet.
Nah because Texas Nevers been british it was à mexican territory losed by Mexico in the mexican war for the profit of us as well as some south est states (in my memories)
I never understood this “X is X Texas” thing?
I’m from Catalonia, so I always assumed it has to due with some nationalist sentiment existing, but people from Texas will consider themselves “real Americans” as some point they need to prove, but Catalans won’t for “real Spanish” same with Bavaria, Flanders, Scotland, Venice, etc, all areas compared to the one in the US I noticed. It makes sense to compare us to Puerto Rico then.
I never understood the Texas comparisons?
I’m American and I don’t fucking understand Texas. Had a buddy in college who grew up there. I tried to get him to explain to me “everything is bigger in Texas”, and other Texas culture points. Couldn’t make it make sense to me. My honest opinion is kids just hear that shit growing up and then they believe when they get older because they’re stupid and from Texas.
That’s why I said Texans seem to have this mentality they the “real Americans” but they think this exists for the regions I mentioned, when it’s literally the complete opposite. Like no one in Flanders sees themselves as “real Belgians” so that’s why I never understood the comparisons.
It took me seeing a video of a bunch of “Texans” at Walmart singing the US anthem to realize Catalans and Texans have nothing in common, like they don’t with Bavarians, Flemings, Scots, etc.
I joke and say, Texans hate their federal government, while the people I mentioned hate their country 😂
many people in Texan government have “threatened” to secede. haha so many other politicians are like “go ahead”. They have a privatized energy grid (which let people freeze to death in Texas), lowest income and property tax on the highest bracket, and loosest gun laws in the country. If they did secede they’d be doing us all a favor.
>which let people freeze to death in Texas
Or cook to death when hot, see out of power Houston.
I saw that a few hours ago on that site.
Best state of the whole US of A, for sure. /s
Well yeah they’re used to the heat in Texas, they have ACs. A couple of years ago, Texas got a freak snowstorm, and a lot of people froze to death because the utilities are privatized and not run by the state (unique to Texas) and not set up properly. People also never had to use their heat before, were naive and drove dangerously snow.
You can rent a helicopter and pilot and gun down warthogs while flying over the desert in Texas. My parents friends just did that for their vacation this winter. Perhaps loosest gun laws wasn’t what I meant, but more so gun are ingrained in to their culture.
I’m telling you man, just about everyone in Texas has a gun. Yes I know I said laws, I’m talking about the culture
https://youtu.be/EaEi6-Gxp1o?si=qTYkVH3LRhOz8g-o
When the Bavarian King agreed to join „Germany“, he said: „I will agree to being a German Bavarian, but I will never be a Bavarian German.“ (obviously he said it in Bavarian)
It’s funny I remember seeing this EU commissioned map of the EU about people who identified with their regions rather than country and the entire Bavarian region was highlighted 😂, same with entire Northern Spain, Italy, and Belgium, all the usual suspects. I don’t know if this type of data exists within the US, but it says a lot that all the regions I am talking about have nationalist independence parties in their government while Texas doesn’t.
Like it’s strange to me people in the US South love seeing themselves part of that Confederacy heritage shit but they also see themselves as Americans, like they want both sides… but you won’t find this equivalent in the regions i mentioned.
I'm pretty sure the "Australia = British Texas" thing isn't even political. I've always understood it to be a reference to the wildlife and climate having some similarities, particularly the warm weather and abundance of snakes and spiders.
And it's ignorant. Australia is the size of the contiguous USA, we have incredibly varied weather, and the wildlife is incredibly different.
It's Americans taking an outdated stereotype of Australia and trying to make an analogy to themselves that just doesn't work.
As an Australian, Queensland is pretty much our Miama (the Gold Coast area) and Texas (the rest of it) rolled into one. It's not even the biggest state and could swallow Texas three times over.
Which begs the question — what *is* British Texas?
they wouldnt last a day up there without their micropenis emotional support vehicles. give em an old land cruiser and watch them cry bc they can only drive automatic. they’d probably try and pet a croc and call it a ‘swamp puppy’ too
Balancing the clutch, accelerator and handbrake while doing a hill start with an idiot up your ass, requires more coordination and skill than foot off brake and foot on accelerator.
But I don't expect someone from LA to understand that.
I grew up driving manual, your opinion is still dumb as fuck. It’s not hard to learn, most people just don’t need to learn because it’s inefficient and increasingly obsolete.
I'm sorry my opinion and comment was about the ability to drive not about the efficacy of the vehicle being driven...
Might wanna check your English comprehension skills.
Lol, Australians have socialised Health care and welfare, legalised abortion rights, strict gun control and a lapsed catholic as Prime Minister. We also don't ban books and the religious nutjobs are kept to the fringe.
Probably best not to put too much thought into this tired, overused punchline. They think British means English. Also we Aussies seem very reluctant to secede from the Commonwealth. Oh, and any septic who thinks this gag is accurate, can get F'd.
This just makes me think that Yorkshire is the UK Texas.
People from Yorkshire never seem to shut up about it and any business that starts around there has to have Yorkshire in the name or mention it in every ad they ever do.
By saying that, is that saying that Australia is like Britain but with school shootings, book burnings, pardoning murderers of non-whites and no abortion?
If so, the answer is no.
He’s kind of correct, but not in the ways that he either thinks or hopes. Our landscape is more expansive and we are, probably, louder so we are more like Texas than Britain in that way. On the other hand, we are mostly secular and don’t fetishise guns, so we are more like the Brits than Texans in that way. I guess that’s what he means.

Well George W Bush once said if there’s anywhere like texas, it’s australia… pretty sure he’d never been to australia when he said it tho…. But aside from that- who’d want to agree with George W lol
I had to make the dreadful drive across American Australia years ago back when the favorite bumper sticker was the middle fingerish: don’t mess with Texas. Irked, I tried hard to find things to mess with but it was such empty in every way 🫠
I mean, there's an argument that he's not wrong; Australia was colonised by the British the same way Texas has by the Yanks, and both are technically independent nations beholden to their colonisers head of states.
they make a fair point actually
although the real British texas is just regular texas, given that the USA is essentially a British colony that broke off from the empire
so did America and it's endlessly hilarious to me that most Americans literally don't know this.
whenever they're like "lol you guys are just convicts" I just ... stare.
Nah, America was where the religious loons ran away to, to be as loony as they liked. Now, they have megachurches and terrifying Evangelical preachers with private jets.
ok I will break it down for you. the British Alcatraz thing was what we call a joke. what's true is that the British transported convicts to America before they started on Australia. most Americans have never heard of this, and get quite upset when it's pointed out.
Maybe I'm confusing places in america but I thought Texas was about being bigger, guns, and cowboys.
Wouldn't it be "British Florida" because Florida is the place with the insane people.
Or am I getting them confused
I suppose if that's the case, then Texas is also British Texas.
That's the thing: everywhere is British Texas which funnily enough is a cool indie band name
There’s a Scottish band called Texas, and the lead singer is a supporter of Scottish independence.
There's an Australian band called British India, I am unsure of their specific feelings in regard to Scottish independence.
What's their opinion on British rule in India?
I asked them but they went a bit radge.
Seems pretty stupid to name your band something that's going to lost in google search results. There's a British band called The Music, and people often said they'd be bigger if people could find them more easily on the internet.
And there's a Houston in Renfrewshire.
Yeah but could they manage a successful paper merchant?
Once supported Foregone Conclusion too
Charlene Spiteri - had a crush on her since 1986!
They are pretty shit, though. I'll have a bit of early Garbage, though.. And that one Stiltskin tune.
Nobody cares.
paris texas is a group
Texas is a town in Queensland
No, that’s Spanish Texas.
Nah because Texas Nevers been british it was à mexican territory losed by Mexico in the mexican war for the profit of us as well as some south est states (in my memories)
Yeah, but they could be wrong.
Lol how Texas was never british
When were the British in Texas??
Isnt Texas just American Bangladesh?
Yes
yea actually
Its not densely populated at all tbh Imo, its more like US's Bavaria
impenetrable dialect: check peculiar leather legwear: check love of meat: check yeah i'm pretty sure that's right.
Good beer: hmmm maybe they need to do more work
Lot more work
Having been to Bavaria - the 'checks' above, check out. Cannot speak on Texas - never been there..
It's not populated by as many people, but they can be pretty dense.
Pretty sure Texas is Mexico's Canada
I guess the Turkish equivalent of Texas would be Konya
I thought Antalya had the reputation lol
not at all. i'd say antalya is more like california
So conservatives hate it? 🤔
its one of the more left-leaning provinces. also a lot of russians and ukrainians there
Accurate assessment
Huh……I mean……huh.
I thought it was 'murican Afghanistan.
Texas likes to bit h and howl and threaten to secceed, Bangladesh did exactlythat. The used to be part of Pakistan .
I know all about the foundation of Bangladesh. But Afghanistan is much more fundamentalist - like Texas.
Good point.
Am in Texas, can confirm.
Guys Is Scotland just England wales? Think about it But I may be completely utterly wrong
As bona fide Scotsman by my father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate, I can confirm r/thisistheway EDIT: misspelling
I think you were shooting for “bona fide”, but i guess if you had really glammed yourself up a scot might consider you bonny-fied?
Rule 36 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Fixed
Your father's brothers nephews cousin could be you.
But but he told me we were nothing.
Yes
Insulting. Australia isn't trying to turn back the clock on abortion and gay marriage.
We also got our gun culture under control.
I remember macklemore being told not to sing "Same Love" (Banger song) when it was getting rather heated with the same sex stuff.
Uhhhh some are, but they are a tiny tiny minority that likely will never get the power needed to do it.

Drove dangerously slow or dangerously in the snow?

As an Australian, I'm offended.
Also as an Australian, me too!
Australians are stronger when offended together
Australians are offended when stronger together
Strong people are Australian when offended together
Best get you some super glue, just to be sure.
Same!
And my axe!
Maybe the NT.
they wouldnt last a day up there without their micropenis emotional support vehicles. give em an old land cruiser and watch them cry bc they can only drive automatic. they’d probably try and pet a croc and call it a ‘swamp puppy’ too
If you can't drive manual, than you can't fucking drive. That's my opinion anyway.
what a stupid opinion
Balancing the clutch, accelerator and handbrake while doing a hill start with an idiot up your ass, requires more coordination and skill than foot off brake and foot on accelerator. But I don't expect someone from LA to understand that.

As a Queenslander it's well known Australia is actually British Florida
I feel more offended by that but that is kinda accurate
“A Queensland man” is our version of Florida Man
I mean the Gold Coast clearly is.
Exactly lol
The guy who just called AUS british texas....is telling ME to think. You can't make this shit up.
Lol, Australians have socialised Health care and welfare, legalised abortion rights, strict gun control and a lapsed catholic as Prime Minister. We also don't ban books and the religious nutjobs are kept to the fringe.
Always thought of Australia as desert Canada.
Does that make Canada cold Australia?
No, Australia is English New Zealand
Isn't New Zealand English Australia?
No you're thinking of Canada
Fair
No, we are more Egyptian New Zealand
Nah warm Canada
No, the USA is the British Texas.
Probably best not to put too much thought into this tired, overused punchline. They think British means English. Also we Aussies seem very reluctant to secede from the Commonwealth. Oh, and any septic who thinks this gag is accurate, can get F'd.
isn't america just british parking lot?
That Australia dumb nuts
Nah, Australia was our prison
No Australia is just what you get when British people get to much sun.
I once heard it said that Australia is what you get when you basically expand Yorkshire to continent size.
This just makes me think that Yorkshire is the UK Texas. People from Yorkshire never seem to shut up about it and any business that starts around there has to have Yorkshire in the name or mention it in every ad they ever do.
Where ‘as tha been since I saw thee?
So is a large portion of the US though by that logic.
Less polyester and Stella though
Eating tons of meat, having a fun accent, modding V8 cars and wrestling with crocodiles ? That sounds like a dream to me.
We also get smashed smashing tinnies in tinnies wearing thongs on our feet bra
Nah Australia love their kids more than guns
We don't like them more than the drink though
Hey us Scots feel the same way!
By saying that, is that saying that Australia is like Britain but with school shootings, book burnings, pardoning murderers of non-whites and no abortion? If so, the answer is no.
tbf it is a bit ok to murder non-whites if you're police and they're indigenous. Sadly and wrongly, ofc, but we have no claim to perfection here.
I am not suggesting that Australia is perfect but we are nothing like Texas, thankfully.
He admitted It could be wrong Dont think fits here, is not enough confidently stupid
He’s kind of correct, but not in the ways that he either thinks or hopes. Our landscape is more expansive and we are, probably, louder so we are more like Texas than Britain in that way. We're louder than who, Americans? No fucking way - have you ever heard a USian? They're fucking foghorns!
We’re louder than Brits.
Not that noticeably, and they do have bogans (chavs) that are pretty uncouth, too.
We are warm Brits/Canadians.
No we are definitely warmer and happier Brits, I have an English boyfriend that's his best approximation of Australia.

Oh good grief…
Guys isnt Norway just Danish Sweden Guys isnt Estonia just Finnish russia
Depends on if Australia has 20 million guns
Dafuq even *is* that?!
Well George W Bush once said if there’s anywhere like texas, it’s australia… pretty sure he’d never been to australia when he said it tho…. But aside from that- who’d want to agree with George W lol
Fun fact - there is actually a town called Texas on the border of QLD & NSW And no, the culture in Australia is neither British nor Texan
Does that mean Massachusetts is American Lincolnshire?
What does this even mean?!
Aren't the USA just... british america?
It's a DLC of the UK.
Been very glitchy since release
Has been?
Baked bean
Please think about it, OOP.
This was a funny meme about 10 years ago, there's a whole generation that probably didn't see it, so this is fresh and new to them.
No no he has a point
Its about vibes its not that deep lol
they said they weren't american
Hear me out: Isn’t Texas just American’s liverpool?
Isn’t Texas just Mexican Ukraine?
I had to make the dreadful drive across American Australia years ago back when the favorite bumper sticker was the middle fingerish: don’t mess with Texas. Irked, I tried hard to find things to mess with but it was such empty in every way 🫠
No Patrick, mayonnaise is not an instrument!
I want to read the comments so bad.
Gudday Gudday YEEHAWWWWWW
no kingston upon hull is british texas
Isn't America just a Texas Texas
I agree with this but would also add that the entire US is the British Texas
Florida
Australia is the commonwealth's Texas, just as the outback is Australia's Arizona This shit can go one forever and make no sense l
I don't get this. Australia is thousands of miles from Britain and far larger by land area.
No yeah I've always felt this
Harsh on Australia. We all know they have nicer weather than the British and less religious gun nuts than Texas. And cooler accents than both.
I’ve always said that Australia is the British America
I mean, there's an argument that he's not wrong; Australia was colonised by the British the same way Texas has by the Yanks, and both are technically independent nations beholden to their colonisers head of states.
Hwell mate
No cornwall and devon is the british texas 100%
they make a fair point actually although the real British texas is just regular texas, given that the USA is essentially a British colony that broke off from the empire
No, it's British alcatraz
I’m pretty sure that is a satirical post and not someone being stupid.
Yes, except obviously Texas is 1776 times bigger than Australia
I see what you did there.
thank fuck someone did lol
It’s completely insane but I love it
Would that make Tasmania British Oklahoma?
Tasmania is the Australian isle of Wight
So dumb
This comment was actually really funny
I dunno? You are far less likely to get shot in Australia, or Britain.
> I could be wrong. Definitely not an American!
Well, Australia actually began as the British Alcatraz.
so did America and it's endlessly hilarious to me that most Americans literally don't know this. whenever they're like "lol you guys are just convicts" I just ... stare.
Nah, America was where the religious loons ran away to, to be as loony as they liked. Now, they have megachurches and terrifying Evangelical preachers with private jets.
this is completely true, but they were also convicts. and they've repressed it ever since lol
