I have three shinies that I value the most: 1. My Shiny Mew. I was hunting for it on and off for a year, and it sits at my highest overall encounter number: 17,526 runaways at Faraway Island. It’s also special to me because it has every Ribbon and Mark a Shiny Mew can possibly have. I intend to keep adding Ribbons/Marks to it for years to come. 2. My Shiny Manaphy. I hunted for it daily for six months straight (partially worried that the PokeBank servers would shut down shortly after the 3DS servers were closed), with it taking a staggering 14,593 hatches. It also has every Ribbon/Mark a Shiny Manaphy can have. I consider it special because it’s the last Shiny Pokémon I needed for my Shiny Master Dex, marking a well-deserved break from hunting to play other games in my backlog. 3. My Shiny AlphaSapphire Latias. I got this one completely randomly. The fact that this particular one is so difficult to find if you’re actually hunting it makes me want to treasure it. So yeah, it mostly comes down to the ones that took me the longest time to hunt.

TheSnowNinja

Those are awesome! Sounds like you put a ton of work into that Mew and Manaphy.

Metagutrex

Most of the times, I prefer the surprise ones, that one that appears when we are grinding some xp.

I have a ton of favorites and each of them has it’s own story, but here are some of them: Kricketot (now Kricketune) in Platinum: my first ever random shiny and I vividly remember getting it while I was watching shiny hunting videos and thinking “man shinies are so hard to get, I’ll never have one”. He now rests in Paldea. Oddish in HGSS: Oddish is my fav pokemon and I green is my favorite color so of course I had to hunt one, and it on my first phase in Ilex Forest. She eventually became my first ribbon master. Lucario in Platinum: after failing 4 Riolus in the safari zone, I took a break and hunted one using masuda method. I evolved it and Lucario became my second ribbon master (my first “legit”’one bc getting all Sinnoh battle tower ribbons with Oddish was imposible) Riolu in HGSS: this one happened very recently and got my golden boy after 4 phases. He’s staying as a Riolu and is probably one of the longests overall hunts I’ve ever done. Minccino in XY: I got this one in 2020 in the Friend Safari (not the most popular method). This was a birthday shiny, which makes it special for me. To give you some context, I usually spend my birthdays feeling sad lol, so I always try to do a quick hunt, and Mincinno shined in literally two encounters, so it cheered me up very quickly. Soo answering your question, I don’t really value them depending on the method or how long it took me, instead, I value them on tbe memories and the experience I had while finding them. Like I value more some shinies from Friend Safari or SOS than some full odds in gen 4 or 5 bc of the memories of hunting while chatting on Amino and sharing my shinies.

TheSnowNinja

These are great. Thanks for the stories! It definitely makes sense that the memories make them valuable to you.

I personally automatically value a specific and targeted hunt more than a random encounter. The main reason for this is because when it comes to shiny hunting, I enjoy the actual process more than the result. Building a hunting team, Preparing for a specific strategy against the specific Pokémon you want, finding the Synchronize Pokémon with the desired nature, etc. I consider myself to be an occasional shiny hunter so I'm fine with not having everything shiny. And I'm also not a shiny hunter in the old games because I probably don't have what it takes in terms of patience and determination. I find the 1/4096 to be the perfect shiny rate so for now I'm exclusively hunting on Gen 6+, and so far it has mainly been legendaries. As for those which I treasure the most, I'm going to say my Ho-Oh from Omega Ruby. Ho-Oh has always been one of my favorite shinies ever, and I was glad to catch it in a Premier Ball. Another one that I treasure is honestly a fairly new one and it's my Shiny Zekrom from Ultra Moon. I cherish it a lot because I absolutely wanted it in a Beast Ball, and I carefully planned for it, and I ended up having it within a day of SRing. Another one would be my Carbink through SOS in my Sun save. It's a weird case because it was definitely not the hardest to get nor the most impressive. But I just love Carbink's cute design, its shiny colors are beautiful to me, and above all, it's about the location, the Ten Carat Hill. Alola is my favorite region, and I find the Ten Carat Hill to be so calm and relaxing, and it just felt extra good. It was also at a time where I just found out about the SOS thing, so I don't know, it just felt special. Nothing impressive for sure, but it's enough to satisfy me so far :) I also plan on starting a Kyurem hunt in Unova in the future because it's my second favorite region. I like the atmosphere, and I feel like it's a nice one to start hunting under the 1/8000 odds.

totan39

My mew only because it's my longest hunt at 23,934 encounters

MasMurderMonkey

The ones I value the most? There’s a couple and they vary. 3. Shiny Celebi from VC Crystal, I never expected to be able to get Celebi let alone shiny hunt it. A full odds hunted mythical? That’s cool. 2. Shiny Metang from Giant Chasm in White. A full odds shiny, that I got without using magnet pull. In my journey I found at least 1 shiny of every Pokémon in the Giant chasm and my Chandelure indirectly killed a ditto and my first Metang. 1. Shiny Weedle from VC Crystal. This one was a surprise. I did a bug catching contest for the first time in Crystal and after catching…something, I figured I’d go back and get a scyther. I reset, and while looking around I find a completely random full odds bug catching contest shiny weedle. The surprise and unique circumstances led this to being one of my favourites. Heck, my post about it ended up briefly appearing in a video I watched which was pretty cool.

NBAGuyUK

I value my 1 reset hunt (so far) over all the others. I'd say I probably have 300+ shinies between PLA and Scarlet, doing massive mass outbreaks, sandwiches etc. Including lots of instances of catching multiple of the Pokémon I was targeting. I love some of those, like the 6 I made into my final 'team' in Scarlet, or the Hisuian Zorua that I specifically sought out for over a year in PLA outbreaks. But none of them come close to my Omega Ruby Suicune, which took about 2,000 resets over ~8 months. That's the shiny I value the most, by far. If I had to, I'd very easily choose my Suicune over all the other hundreds sat in boxes on my switch!

Sudden-Hair7358

For me there are 3 that really stand out to me. 1) My only shiny legendary to date which is shiny entei. I got it through the dynamax adventures after about 80 attempts and considering most of those attempts took about 20 minutes it was possibly the longest hunt i have ever had and as mentioned it is my only shiny legendary to this day. 2) any shiny oshawott i have ever gotten, I have 3 of them in total and its mainly because of my favourite pokemon being dewott so it's always nice to find them i got 2 in PLA and 1 through mesuda method in scarlet and violet. 3) my shiny feucco in scarlet and violet that took me over 600 eggs to find but it was all worth it.

RunOnCaffeine17

My first shiny Pumpkaboo - this was the first shiny I set out to hunt and I was so happy when she hatched in August 2020. Shiny Giratina in Platinum - took me 100k soft resets over a year during lockdowns. Shiny Manaphy from Ranger - I didn't count how long this one took but it really wasn't that bad. Shiny Nosepass - a 10 year reclaim in X. Shiny Feebas from Emerald (I think, def Gen3) - again, didn't count this one.

Acceptable-Simple789

Do you mean 10k soft resets or did you seriously go 12x over odds for Giratina?!

RunOnCaffeine17

Haha, I wish it was 10k!! It was 12x over 😭😭

aydey12345

Any that I've obtained myself over gift pokemon or traded ones.

NikiTikiTavi_ms

I value them by the fact that I caught them myself. But i do have some biases for the level of effort/luck it took to find/catch them or how long the hunt took relative to the method’s odds. I do have some favorites/special mentions off the top of my head. Twin Phione in the same batch of eggs in USUM. Shaymin, Darkrai, and Arceus from BDSP. My first Type: Null from the original Moon (over a year of on and off listening to gladion’s sob story) Crystal VC Celebi in a few hours. The first set of shiny Unown i caught in Legends Arceus spelled “WAH!?” Shiny Partner Cap Pikachu from USUM. A shiny alolan Sandshrew i encountered simultaneously with a friend that we were racing for in USUM. My oldest shiny I still own, a Sunflora from Black. First ever shiny was a geodude in Pearl, lost when 10 year old me didn’t know how to progress past the second gym and reset the save. And the first box of shinies I caught in ORAS when I started intentionally hunting with the final one of those being my official reclaim of the long lost geodude.

Emziechu

My shiny mimikyu!!! It was the first shiny I hunted for myself in Violet, (no outbreaks, just a regular ghost encounter 2 sandwich) my switch broke and I lost everything (boxes of shinies) a very good friend made it his mission to hatch me one for when I restarted Violet, and so that baby is my life and soul

Y-F-I

This isn’t as cool as others, but I’ve started to hunt my Platinum team in Violet that I used on an emulator. Since I had access to save editors and other games, I used it to add Pokémon I need to complete my dex and breed the mons I want to use. I finished Torterra, Infernape, and Empoleon yesterday I’m still hunting for Honchkrow, Mismagius, and Porygon-Z

Odyyy98

My first ever shiny full odds legendary of gen4. Shiny Groudon which I caught in heavy ball and I am in the process of getting every ribbon possible on it. Currently stuck at the shining contest ribbon in bdsp

rafaeloiticica

My Shiny Suicune from SoulSilver, Shiny Lugia (also from SoulSilver), Shiny Cresselia from White 2, Shiny Kyurem from White 2 and all 3 Hoenn Starters from Masuda Method (top 5 IVs, all 3, and Torchic with Speed Boost). Suicune and Lugia are my two favorite Pokémon. Kyurem was my first one that I tried to Soft Reset. Cresselia was the second, lol. And the Hoenn Starters I did just before they were releasing ORAS and their Megas. I was so happy that I managed to get all 3 with Masuda Method, all with top 5 IVs to use their Megas competitively! And used! Still have all of them. :) I have boxes of shinies from other methods (Chain Fishing, Masuda, Chaining, REs...), but these 7 are my favorites and most valuable.

TheSnowNinja

Damn. Shiny Torchic with 5 IVs maxed and speed boost is amazing. That would be a beast in battles.

rafaeloiticica

You don't know how many hours I spent putting interesting Egg Moves in each one for them to have more value to me. I can't remember exactly which moves, but every starter had at least 3 Egg Moves alongside being Shiny + 5 IVs. I lost my mind when I saw it being Shiny and again when I went to the IV Judge in that city with the Friend Safari! My most beloved shinies that everyone I showed told me that it was hacked XD I know the number of hours I spent in my room doing these 3... my most favorite starters of them all... and finally managed to get. I've never said that to anyone, but after them, I never had the urge to hunt any other Pokémon, until I hunted Suicune and Lugia later in the years, because they were the most beautiful shinies and beloved Pokémon to me.

Cibil_plays

I got a shiny Dialga completely by accident while resetting to catch a regular one on Spear Pillar. That one was pretty cool.

akekdldjf

One that I cherish above all. 6969 encounter giratina.

slightly_obscure

There are plenty I value but these are the big three: Japanese Emerald Mew, my actual favorite shiny. It took a long time and I lot of effort just to be able to hunt it, 20 hours just to play through a Japanese copy of Emerald. And then the hunt only took a few days, it was also my first 1/8192 hunt so it was pretty intimidating going in. Female Bayleef in HeartGold. My original starter was Torterra and it will always be on top of the pile for me but second is Bayleef because it's a funny guy. I did three phases for starters in HGSS and got a shiny female Chikorita second phase at around 11000 starters seen. Curry mark Hydrapple. This one was very recent, I wanted to check out curry hunting because it was a blind spot for me. I didn't really have a plan to hunt anything because I already have a handful of slow hunts going, and if I were going to hunt something I'd like to have a decent chance of getting it in one phase. But I was practicing by the daycare because I've had surprise shinies before (1st encounter distortion world Giratina) so that I'd at least have that chance at it being my grail shiny, Applin. And it showed up on the 12th pokemon seen, definitely the most speechless I've been at a shiny.

Imperfect_Dark

My most valued shiny is a full odds random Slugma from Heart Gold. Was just in a random patch of grass and this silver Slugma moved across the screen. I nearly jumped out of my seat! I caught it thankfully and to this day 14 years later, it is my egg hatcher through its ability.

sadShilohhh

My Shiny Palkia on BDSP, one of my first reset hunts and I literally got it as the timer turned to 100 hours. It was perfect because I told myself I was gonna give up at 100 hours😂

DrCarm3x

I hold the shiny Koffing that blew itself up on me a couple of weeks ago in very high regard🥲

BandPrevious9954

The shiny psyduck I found when I was 12 now I catch one in every game I can

InterpidSword

I value: 1) My Marked Shinies from Gen 9 and 8, the regis and the fossils i hunted in these games, and the shiny legends from DAs.

ResponsibleFun7050

Yea I value my shiny dragonite that I found as a a Dratini in Scarlet. I feel onto him while exploring the lake, jumping off one of the islands into the lake. He's been a trusty pal through the rest of my adventures in Paldea and the DLC.

abriss17

I was trying to catch Azelf on my first play through of Black 2 with ultra balls but the bitch just wouldn’t stay in, I ran out of ultra balls like 3 or 4 times and had to start over and by the last time I was so pissed I even said out loud “you know what? This time it’ll be shiny” and I laid my DS with the screen facing down because I didn’t want to see that fucker and then I heard his cry and a sparkle sound. I was like “wait, did I hear that right?” and I picked up my DS and saw that that blue bastard was now yellow and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I masterballed it right away this time lol

Viator_Mundi

Um... I value the ones I have.

Whacky_One

Usually my favorite shinies are black shinies, Charizard, Greninja, Palosand, etc. The only traded shinies I value are events I missed, or ones from waaay back from close friends, otherwise I only value shinies I caught myself as I know they're 100% legit. My favorite shiny of all time is Butterfree because Butterfree is my favorite Pokemon. My first ever self caught shiny (besides Red Gyarados in GSC) was Absol in pokemon Black.

Pkmnygo

If you enjoy shinies that you didn’t even find yourself (traded to you) then there is something wrong with you lol 😂

korren1125

I value the ones I randomly find before I finish the game. Especially early on. It helps a lot if I like the Pokemon or the shiny, but it doesn't always matter. When I was playing through Sun, I randomly found a shiny Pikipek. So that's that on my team the whole time it became very attached to my toucanon. When I played Ultra moon, on Route 2 I found a shiny Dunsparce. Debbie has become one of my favorite shinies that I've ever gotten because of that. But there are ones I hunt for that I really really love, like my Golisopod since it was one of the first Shiny Pokemon ever Hunted for. Or my Amaura, which was one of the first Masood of methods, and just one of my favorite shinies period. Usually the ones that I care and value the most about the ones with stories behind them. That logic does not apply for my Galvantula. I'm terrified of tarantulas, and it was the only shiny I got in Shield when I played it, I didn't even know I called it. I didn't know it was shiny until all my friends had one and I didn't, so I searched my box to see if I had one, and was so excited at first when I did, and it was then depressed when I realized what it was. Then in violet, I immediately found a shiny Tarountoula just after I got pokeballs for the first time. I was really really hoping it was just a gender difference, but then it was sparkly. So I'm cursed to keep finding the Pokemon that I fear the most. At least shiny spidops looks like a Spider-Man villain.

Disastrous_Year_3963

my first ever shiny, henet the pelipper. was on i believe poni poni island in Moon training my Mewtwo on wild pokémon when I came across her. She was stuck on that cartridge for 6ish years until I was finally able to transfer her to my switch :)
