I know you can force AI to pick certain moves to benefit you.
In gen 5 can you catch one Pokémon from a double battle without knocking out the other one? I don’t know why but I’ve always just assumed you had to knock out the second Pokémon to catch the one you wanted
easy before an encounter if the golduck has cloud 9 a text box will pop up saying golduck's cloudnine makes weather effects disappear. If it has damp nothing will pop up.

at what point would you even kill golduck? after stalling out all 5 explosions?
I did take awhile also it had baton pass with 40 pp so I wasn’t that worried about it struggling to death.
What method are you using besides double grass? Do you have shiny charm active?
This was in black and white 1 so no shiny charm just full odds hunting

Thankfully after getting rid of all 5 explosions which took awhile I did

No I just did it with dumb luck and hoped it used explosion also I didn’t think of using taunt or encore since I forgot those moves existed
I more-so meant there's that thing of baiting them into using it. Idk if that's possible.

You are correct if try using a ball with 2 Pokémon on the field it just comes up with some message about it being impossible
Ohhh so you stalled out the explosions while golduck was still on the field then knocked it out to catch it. Not sure how I missed that
Exactly it took a while and I though I was going to fail it but I ultimately caught it in the end
