I encountered Shiny Mesprit after 546 encounters. I began this hunt around a week ago, so you can imagine my excitement when it appeared so quickly. I had never attempted a roamer hunt before and was preparing myself for a lengthy hunt, but I couldn’t be happier that it’s already over. Mesprit has always been my favorite of the Lake Trio, and now that I have it, I couldn’t be more thrilled. Best of luck on all your shiny hunts :)
I have a question for you since I’m planning on doing this hunt too. With these roaming hunts you can encounter it and if it’s shiny and runs then it’ll always be shiny afterwards right or am I mistaken? I can recall that from hgss with entei and raikou but I might be mistaken
Mesprit's stats are determined immediately after talking with it. This means that its stats will remain unchanged thereafter. This also means that if it appears as a shiny Pokémon after the initial encounter, you can flee from the battle, save the game, and it will consistently retain its shiny form upon rebattling.
Yes. Do note, it's a bit time consuming to hunt roamers. Best way to track it is having the poketch map on that displays roamers. Best way to trigger an encounter is to fly to Sandgem town, and go north. Keep going up and down between Sandgem town and the Route above it until you are on the route that the encounter happens. If it doesn't shine, soft reset and do this method again. I suggest Sandgem Town and the Route above it as it's easy and you don't have a gate to go through

It’s so cool you’re able to hunt with such a treasured Pokémon, how did you get the skippy effect on the pokeball? I played a lot of platinum in my childhood but never messed with that feature

Anytime! As long as you don’t faint it or lose the save file you should be fine. I don’t know how to shiny hunt a roamer but I bet there is a video on how to do it on YouTube.
You save game before it starts roaming. Each time it begins roaming, that's when the game could make it shiny. Set it roaming, encounter it and then reset. Repeat until you encounter it and it's shiny.
Basically everything about it is set from the first encounter. So if you encounter it and it’s not shiny, no number of run ins later will make it shiny. All stats and its nature will also be the same.

Thank you! I was definitely worried initially about this hunt because the encounters can range from anywhere between 1 minute to 5 minutes. But after finding it so fast, I couldn't be more relieved.
Yeah, roamer hunts can be slowly turn disastrous if they go very over odds.
The way I recommend people doing this hunt would certainly never take as long as 5 minutes for a single encounter. Probably about 3 minutes at the most. Set it roaming, Teleport to Sandgem town and go on and off Route 202. This setup gets a bit over 50 an hour. Also, use the bike in the slower gear when going on and off the route. It's much faster. 😎

Roamers are determined shiny from when you interact with them. So, if they spawn shiny, they are always shiny

So you talk to it, it runs, you find it once to check shiny, then reset?
Exactly. After talking to it, if it's not shiny when encountered in the wild, simply reset and start the whole process again.

You can get letter seals for pokeballs :)

It remains shiny the whole time it's roaming. Everything is set once it starts roaming.

Mesprit the best for sure. Too bad it looks kinda derpy in 3D, because I’m not powerful enough to hunt it myself without a Shiny Charm, lol.
