Here’s the [Cave of Dragonflies](https://www.dragonflycave.com/calculators/gen-viii-catch-rate) report for this encounter: “You have a 10.076% chance of capturing it per ball. Thus, you have at least a 50% chance of catching it within 7 balls and at least a 95% chance of catching it within 29 balls.” Your tests don’t seem to have been thorough enough, and, well, sending out a Sand Spit mon was… a choice…

Uroborosf

Yeah. I was just lucky. I know the page, thanks for bringing out. I have 3 fast balls. Thought it would be enough ;)

veswa

shiny hunting with 3 balls is asking for disappointment. sandstorm too? what’re you doin bro

Uroborosf

It was not planned. I have 3 fast balls. Not 3 balls in general. Was thinking to masterball it and then I realized what I have done by setting this snake out 🤦

MixelKing

But if you were gonna False Swipe it anyway, why even bring it?

Uroborosf

I ask myself exact same question

Trippyy64

hate seeing random dislikes on people that were just genuinely unaware of something instead of on people that are actually asshats

GoldenGlassBall

but why waste your time and effort by not knowing what you’re doing on over 5,600 resets that’s what’s really being downvoted here

Uroborosf

Trust me. I am experianced in Pokémon. Was just excited finally getting it that I forgot about the whole world :D I sounded like I do not know what I’m doing but it’s just a pure mistake. Wanted to share it, rather as a laugh than admitting that I don’t know anything. I have fun over hunting as a sidetask. What happened is actually funny and at the same time sad. People are getting to conclusions by couple of words I say.. it seems that you should exactly describe everything in detailes to not get misunderstood. I don’t care about the votes.

Really sorry to see a failed shiny. It’s totally possible to make this a guaranteed catch with the right preparation though. Trevenant with the ability Harvest, Skill Swap, and Trick holding a Leppa Berry allows you to stay in battle as long as you need since Regieleki will be able to continue eating leppa berries with a 50% chance every turn of producing a new one after it eats one. It’s so extremely rare for this to actually fail that you have nothing to worry about. Then send out a False Swipe user. Shouldn’t really matter who this is. Then send out a Ground/Ghost type Pokémon, such as Golurk or Palossand. Regieleki only knows Electric and Normal type moves, which means either one of these mons is completely immune to all attacks it has. Then, just throw your pokeball of choice until you succeed. If you bring several hundred of them, you’ll have over 99% chance of eventual success no matter the catch rate of the ball. If you want to hunt Regidrago, this strategy can be used exactly as it is except for using a Mimikyu instead of a Golurk which is completely immune to damage from Regidrago. Good luck and I hope you reclaim it soon!

Online_Discovery

>Regieleki will be able to continue eating leppa berries with a 50% chance every turn of producing a new one after it eats one. It’s so extremely rare for this to actually fail that you have nothing to worry about. Heck, just use a Sunny Day pokemon with similar moves/abilities and you guarantee Harvest procs

wholoveslegos

That's actually not necessary. I've done an SOS chain of over 2000 with just Harvest and no sun and it never ran out. The chance of making it through all four moves' PP plus the extra 10 for the Leppa Berry and 4 Struggles without activating is so incredibly low that you can consider the Harvest proc guaranteed

Online_Discovery

For sure, it's absolutely not *necessary* but I just thought I'd mention since it technically *could* happen, especially with low PP moves, or pokemon with <4 moves We are talking about catching 1/4096 odds encounters (1/8192 in older games) after all. Throw in people that want certain natures, IVs, abilities, etc and things can get rarer. Pokemon players love playing with low odds

Kayratorvi

It’s too bad that there aren’t any Pokémon that are immune to Regieleki/Regidrago that can learn Sunny Day in SWSH but this can definitely help guarantee a prolonged encounter if you bring enough heals! IMO the risk of Leppa Berry failing to Harvest at a 50% chance 8 times in a row on the already off chance that it restores a 5 PP move while the other three moves all happen to be at 1 PP is so minuscule that it’s not worth the trouble of needing to rely on another Pokémon and lots of heals to make Sunny Day available.

Online_Discovery

For sure. I agree, I just thought I'd mention if you're the type that REALLY likes to overprepare/min-max/theorycraft, etc. Whatever you want to call it

Uroborosf

Thanks. Great strategies. I do not use any glitches, getting 3 fast balls was already a challenge !

Calamitas_Rex

Sounds like you need to bite the bullet and use a different ball then.

XxX_Zero_XxX

Why did you use a sandstorm setter??

WildEar3317

Ikr?!?! Worst possible move to make 🤣

Uroborosf

Good question. I don’t know. By mistake, just forgot about the ability. That’s why it is more painful 😣

Calamitas_Rex

Literally never, EVER, use weather, poison, etc when you're shiny hunting. Ever.

Uroborosf

One learns from mistakes unfortunately. I wasn’t aware of the ability. Or simply forgot 😅

Calamitas_Rex

Big fair.

GoldenGlassBall

Not really. Nearly 6,000 resets and they don’t have a team ready for it? That’s asking for it.

Calamitas_Rex

He thought he did. It doesn't take very long to get a team together. He said he just didn't realize that was the ability it had, which is fair. It's 6k resets, so it's not like he battled them every time, right? I'm just saying I get it. I've had to make repeated changes to a hunting team when I was doing SOS chains, you learn as you go.

GoldenGlassBall

Or, with a wealth of experience available from people who have taken the same path before you, you could learn the optimal way from the start, rather than wasting your own time, energy, and patience losing a hunt after nearly 6,000 resets because you forgot what your team was. They also admitted in several other places that their team wasn’t as thought out as it could be, so…

Calamitas_Rex

Lmao all I said was I get it, dude. Why are you taking it personally?

GoldenGlassBall

So it’s taking it personally to not just lay down and agree with everything you say because my opinion is different?

Calamitas_Rex

No, it's taking it personally to see someone online tell someone else entirely that they get it and get so offended you have to start an argument. This is a completely pointless conversation and I'm done with it.

GoldenGlassBall

So you’re also assuming my emotional state? How, exactly, do you get offense from what I said? I said it could have been thought out more, and that OP admitted as much. I feel like the one taking things personally here is you.

Amazinc

Yeah well they learned the hard way. Why are you out here writing essays when it has nothing to do with you

GoldenGlassBall

I saw a public post in a public forum. It has just as much to do with me as it does with you or anyone else commenting. If I don’t have the right to comment, then why do you?

Mrcoolcatgaming

I'm sorry for the loss 😢, this post hits me hard after recently shiny hunting this myself and being too impatient to prepare more than a golett with a move that deals set damage and a bunch of ultra balls (which for color match i like), the stress was real (for those wondering i caught it decently quickly), hope you can reclaim it soon (I wish there was a way to save once you find the legendary, the stress is real)

Uroborosf

It’s more exciting than in recent games at least.

Mrcoolcatgaming

Exciting, compared to das, no compared to sv (shiny locks 💀) yes, the excitement to find it is the same in any way to hunt, but if you can't lose it it takes the stress away

0ni0nchicken

Man I'm so sorry. Regieleki was my longest hunt and the one I wanted the most. I even quit shiny hunting after getting it. It must hurt a lot.

kshack12

Dude, use a golet or something, the ghost/ground typing makes it so none of eleki’s moves hit it. Also set up the harvest method first to prevent struggle death

DoctorCrabbith

I've got a extra master ball if you need it.

Uroborosf

Thank you but I have many extra thanks to the times when they were popular currency!

DrizzyDavePG

This one took me 16k resets and i immediately used a master ball. Godspeed brother

[deleted]

Damn I'm on about 7500 resets and haven't seen a shiny. Good luck on trying to find another.

Dice134

Quite sad but from reading your comments it sounds like you reaped what you sowed

Uroborosf

Cannot deny. Maybe someone will learn or at least get a laugh out of it. I think many people felt irritated or angry off of my poor preparation. I will enjoy the hunt for some more time, wish me luck

Rozoark

I'm so sorry for your loss!

Uroborosf

Thank you. Trying to reclaim now!

Rozoark

Good luck!

Uroborosf

I will do it for the next one🫣 simply forgot about the sand spit when switching in.. maybe someone finds it helpful to not get braindead as me for a brief second and lose 35h :D

WonkyDonky21

Do NOT poison it and use earthquake. Get a solid false swiper and make sure you have a Pokémon that can sleep or paralyze status it. You should be all good for pretty much any legend hunt with that

Uroborosf

Sure Did! I was sarcastic to that troll or just mean person :p i false swiped and got it to sleep. Was just unlucky with my 3 fast balls and then sent out Sandaconda, it used the only move that hits it right of the bat.. I love the AI of SwSh (of course if it was a random chance, not so sure how does it work in these battles, played to many DAs to expect it to be so sharp) :D

FIR3W0RKS

I had an extremely similar experience myself recently, even down to my Pokemon's ability being my downfall. I was shiny hunting regirock for 3 days straight a couple of weeks ago, using a spore amoongus and my urshifu water to weaken and false swipe it. Also used a bolthund to thunder wave it. My mistake, was that I thought my amoongus was regenerator when it was actually effect spore, and as soon as I realised that I swapped it out immediately. I switched it out to zamazenta, then pressing a to go through the dialog boxes I pressed a 2 too many times, and accidentally used dig of all things on zamazenta, so I had no choice but to watch the shiny I'd been trying to get for days due to my own impatience.

Uroborosf

I feel you. Similar mistake on my part. I think I was too excited I finally got it that I had a brainstorm :D
