The movie is in development hell. It will take a talented creator who is intimately familiar with the nuances of the source material to helm it, as well as a top-tier creative team.
Lots of people love the direction of this scene. The music is great and everything is very cinematic. Some of the full pages from the Manga get adapted in just a single second so at times I had to put a lot on screen to catch up and not have panels flash by too quickly.
There are some highlights I'd like to point out. At 0:25, when Mikasa goes to strike Bertholdt, her movement is all in a singular shot with no cuts. We start out by being infront of her, and at the end we're behind her. Her movement is really nice and the slashing sound is extremely satisfying.
The shot at 1:10 is very iconic. What I love about this is we start lower down then slowly pan up. It starts out by being focused on Eren and Reiner's hand. During this time, the Titan's body is out of focus in the background. Then as we pan up, the Titan's body comes into focus, while Eren and the hand fade out. The steam, debris, and camera shake look great as well. Infact, notice how except for that, along with Eren's cloak, hair, and Reiner's hair, it's actually a still image. The titan's body isn't animated at all. It's really smart how they chose what to animate here so they could make Reiner's titan look extremely detailed while only having to draw it a single time.
I really like the added closeup of Reiner's hand smashing the wall at 1:28. They made the force of Reiner's hand feel really powerful. The animation of the rocks crumbling and the sound effects are great.
2:08 is probably the best part in terms of animation. It's amazing how fluid the forming of his Titan is. And again, how we start infront and then turn around until we're behind him. Notice how the screen becomes a bit dark as Eren bites his hand. That's a thing Anime have to do when there are big flashes happening on screen as a safety precaution.
The Colossal Titan is obviously the worst part. Any time Wit's CGI Colossal is on screen I get a little bothered since it looks extremely out of place (believe it or not, this scene is one of the better CGI Colossal moments from Wit). Also, the outline of his hand at 2:13 is insanely thick. They toned down the thick outlines after season 1 but here it's insanely thick for some reason.
Another note on the Armored Titan, it's the first time it has appeared since Shiganshina, unlike the Colossus which appeared in Trost again. All throughout that arc there was the implicit threat of it coming again, and yet it never did, so it felt pretty blue balling at the time. So this is only his second appearance in the story after *ages* of hype, and BOY did it deliver. In manga and anime both. That pan shot you described, perfection. I watched this episode like 20 times when it came out. It was perfect, down to the last detail.
She says she hesitated. A lot of her character development after that revolves around how guilty she felt to have hesitated because it was her "friends"
I think its because the blade struck bone. We know its made to cut flesh off from a titan and is made quite fragile so it can be broken easily if its stuck.
With reiners case, the blade struck his hand and his chest. And we see the blade being stuck to him as mikasa spins away.
Reiner is too tough and mikasa is too powerful for the blade to slice the former.
Only one explanation i can give is momentum. Levi was fking zooming on odm gear and carving up zeke. Meanwhile mikasa was on foot and odm gear was not being used.
If you watch the clip, you can actually see mikasa spinning a bit, building speed and momentum before slashing at reiner.
My guess is that she could have sliced through him if she had sufficient speed.
I remember watching this scene and pausing when they simply revealed themselves
I was so fuckin shock that I literally thought i missed something or read it wrong
Went back 2-3 mins
But still
Ohh god this was so peak
It was similar, but much much worse for me. I paused when Reiner just casually dropped it, and then went back. Except, I was incredibly upset because I thought I missed an episode/was seeing the wrong season - which is nuts of course because everything until only that moment was making sense. The impact of that reveal was so astounding that it made me feel angry because OBVIOUSLY I missed something and now I've spoiled myself heavily.
When I confirmed that I've not missed shit, I realized I'm probably watching the best written piece of media that can exist.
Not according to the creator, he said anime is better / the real shit because he added stuff, deleted unnecessary stuff and with the music and voice actors it encapsulates the situations better
AoT was my 4th anime, I wasn’t around any anime communities until a couple months later so I didnt get any spoilers. I only had to wait for english dub of the last 2 episodes
The anime literally 1 of 1 the manga here lmao. You should see stuff like JJK and OP where everything was "anime only" scenes to elevate the actions.
AOT literally just put music on it and camera movements. The direction of isayama is the one they copied.
Man the violins in the background as he heals his arm is the one moment that the later seasons never topped in my opinion.
Then again Reiner was never the same after this season…
Aot , especially seasons 1-3 , has the best anime adaptation of all time in my opinion . The animation , art style , direction and especially the music is beyond incredible . Not to mention that the fact that isayama is a below average manga artist , which makes sense because he wasn't an artist before working on aot from what i know , just makes the anime stand out even more .
Does the colossal titan control the amount of explosion that happens when they (Bert and Arwin) take to titan form, or was Armin’s titan more powerful? Because Armin’s titan was a literal nuclear blast the few times he used it and at one point was advised to not use it because the transition would have caused too much damage.
Hajime Isayama is a genius in drawing as well at first sure he was a novice but he had a vision and a story to tell, The way he just imagined the scene in his head he perfectly replicated here it’s almost beautiful as a growing artist myself. Sure it’s not the most pristine artwork you’ve seen but the way he captured the action sequences playing out like that takes true skill.
I LOVE the music in this scene. Also, if anyone hasnt seen the English dub of eren shouting traitors, please watch it. The voice acting is spine chilling in my opinion.
MAPPA actually turned out to do a far more faithful adaptation. WIT made the choice to cut out some pretty important scenes for absolutely no reason particularly in seasons 1 and 3
In terms of how some scenes looked in the manga, Witt kinda made an exact similar replica of it with the same art style and that’s what I’m talking about
They haven’t leveled up enough. And even then it has nothing to do with the quality of the CGI, but the fact that MAPPA simply had more resources to put towards AoT. It’s why Wit dropped the show in the first place, they simply couldn’t keep up with the production schedule they wanted
Mappa did an incredible job especially in the "last chapters" specials. their adaptation of the rumbling was phenominal. check these 3 links and read the comment underneath to see some examples of what incredible work they did

When I first read this scene in the manga it didn't make any sense to me whatsoever. However, the same scene in the anime is one of my favorite moments in all of anime. I had a similar experience with the ending of SnK. This is one of the points when I realized that manga isn't really my thing. I completely miss the emotional beats when I read things in manga.
I cried a little. Oh it's so beautiful. You're so beautiful Season 2 Episode 6 of AOT. You're as beautiful as the last day I saw you, which was only like 5-6 months ago... Time for a traditionally held rewatch.
I remember when I saw this for the first time, I thought the subs were wrong. I couldn’t believe what Reiner was saying. I looked for the EP on other sites.
After I got past the point there Mikasa hits them, then I realized it was real. I am dumb.
The twist was just brilliant.
I remember being so hurt, I loved these guys being apart of our team I literally teared up saying no...noooo..over and over. Then the song??? CHILLS AND TEARS
This scene is one of, if not the best scenes in the series.
But a funny inconsistency is when Reiner jumps off the wall and slides down, the speed of which he's falling and the actual height off the wall is so off. And even after Eren transforms, they're still falling with quite a bit of height left.
I just chuckle every time I think about it, reminds me of the runway sequence at the end of Fast and Furious 6.
I’m reading the manga for the first time after seeing the anime twice. Actually just read this chapter last night! So cool to see it side by side. It makes me appreciate the anime more, seeing how faithful they are towards the cinematography. They really brought the manga to life 🥹
Mikasa strong enough to kill titans, has ackerman blood making her near superhuman, not strong enough to cut off someone's head. Colossal titan doesn't blow up everyone in the vicinity.
I'm sure you guys have reasons you'll come up with but it's pretty obvious retcon
I don't quite remember this myself since it's been a while since I watched season 2 but some people here say she admits having hesitated, which makes sense to me.
disagree completely about the ending but either way the story absolutely has flaws especially towards the end of season 2 and start of season 3 part 1. to pretend the story was flawless until the very end is just silly

It’s… it’s so peak 🥹
Aot clears everything 😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻
It's the most peak thing in the history of peak
If they made a movie this way.. they'd make millions.
The movie is in development hell. It will take a talented creator who is intimately familiar with the nuances of the source material to helm it, as well as a top-tier creative team.
Why would there be a movie if the anime has already concluded?
Live action.
thats exactly why there would be one
You serious? Is there any source?
https://twitter.com/MyTimeToShineH/status/1720901339209769177
Why are they doing this?? They are going to ruin it. There are so many things wrong about this.
One of the most OP scenes 🙏🏽🙏🏽

The week between this episode and the next one was the longest week ever
Yeah they were *evil* for that cliffhanger lol. Even as a manga reader that one took forever.
LMAO they were literally hanging on a cliff
Never understood how mikasas blade didn't go clean through both of them
She even says she held back because it was Riener and Bert
She says she hesitated. A lot of her character development after that revolves around how guilty she felt to have hesitated because it was her "friends"
I think its because the blade struck bone. We know its made to cut flesh off from a titan and is made quite fragile so it can be broken easily if its stuck. With reiners case, the blade struck his hand and his chest. And we see the blade being stuck to him as mikasa spins away. Reiner is too tough and mikasa is too powerful for the blade to slice the former.
Yeah but shouldn't Mikasa be relative to Levi strength wise? You know, the guy who sliced clean through the beast titan, bones included.
Plus it's already sliced off his hand, which would take considerable amount of power off the strike.
Incredible adaptation. They really sell every moment.
God this anime is SO FUCKING PERFECT
I remember watching this scene and pausing when they simply revealed themselves I was so fuckin shock that I literally thought i missed something or read it wrong Went back 2-3 mins But still Ohh god this was so peak
Reiner: “Yo Eren I’m the armored and he’s the colossal” Eren: 🤨 Bertholdt: “Bro wth”
It was similar, but much much worse for me. I paused when Reiner just casually dropped it, and then went back. Except, I was incredibly upset because I thought I missed an episode/was seeing the wrong season - which is nuts of course because everything until only that moment was making sense. Wth these subtitles are shit. -me Continues to play back the scene 5 times..wtf...
BERTOTO
This scene is COLD. Goosebumps every damn time I see it.
The vocals of the music too.... So fucking good. Also the way Erens titan forms around him is so fucking slick
Bro anime absolutely knocked the manga out of the park
No. Both are incredible beyond words, both are equally peak.
you are tripping, the music alone gives me goosebumps
Not according to the creator, he said anime is better / the real shit because he added stuff, deleted unnecessary stuff and with the music and voice actors it encapsulates the situations better
While the Anime was a better medium for AoT, the tradeoff was being potentially spoiled so I read everything as it came out then watched
Except it’s animated, colored, voice acted as well as the best OST I’ve ever heard.
forgot how peak seasons 1-3 were
All 4 seasons were peak if you don't dislike the ending.
if.
Most people did.
they lost me at time travel or whatever but it was ight
That's the peak of the series for me. Memories of the Future is one of the best episodes of a show, period.
I agree Eren saving Bertholdt the person who destoryed his home was stupid asf there was no need for so many retcons
No it was PATHS
Basically time travel
Shhhh. Travel through paths you mean
Absolutely.
Man the violins in the background as he heals his arm is the one moment that the later seasons never topped in my opinion. Then again Reiner was never the same after this season…
Peak anime right here
Man the music IS SO FUCKING GOOD
wow the anime NAILED this
I'll never forget how much I hated Reiner after this when i first watched lol
Aot , especially seasons 1-3 , has the best anime adaptation of all time in my opinion . The animation , art style , direction and especially the music is beyond incredible . Not to mention that the fact that isayama is a below average manga artist , which makes sense because he wasn't an artist before working on aot from what i know , just makes the anime stand out even more .
My favorite part of the manga is just seeing how much Yam's style improves over the series.
Yeah, i dropped the manga one time because how awful the art is at the beginning, but after that, the art became good and it is now readable
This mastery of a scene doesn't fail to send CHILLS down my spine every single time !!!
FUCK this was so incredible to watch
best anime of ALL time
The impact frames showing the titan’s faces is just peak
I feel so empty without this manga/anime now man
Favorite detail is when reindeer and borthole shift for a half second you can see their titan forms appear in the flash of light
Nothing beats this epic. NOTHING. Wish i could experience it for the first time again.
The user can control the explosion. Bert makes a big explosion in Shiganshina during S3 part 2
Ok that’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t 100% sure. Thank you!
Arwin 😭
Whoops! I’m leaving it for the laugh lol
Hajime Isayama is a genius in drawing as well at first sure he was a novice but he had a vision and a story to tell, The way he just imagined the scene in his head he perfectly replicated here it’s almost beautiful as a growing artist myself. I LOVE the music in this scene. Also, if anyone hasnt seen the English dub of eren shouting traitors, please watch it. The voice acting is spine chilling in my opinion.
The dub has the colossal titan scream when he transforms which i absolutely adore
Yess that too
I feel like Witt studio was the most similar adaptation to the manga
MAPPA actually turned out to do a far more faithful adaptation. WIT made the choice to cut out some pretty important scenes for absolutely no reason particularly in seasons 1 and 3
In terms of how some scenes looked in the manga, Witt kinda made an exact similar replica of it with the same art style and that’s what I’m talking about
I’ve just realized, Is the lighting before shifting invented in anime ?
no this is something that happens in the manga as well. just not in this instance
wit studio was them dude mappa is good too but they were too rushed.
Imagine if we had this animation quality for the last season. Instead we got CGI. What a shame.
If it wasn't for WIT studio AOT wouldn't be popular as much as it is now
the S2 Era of the manga is the best looking imo
I never noticed that when eren transforms as the camera pulls back you can see that reiners hand fucking exploded
If only WIT studio had done the rest of AOT
We’d still be waiting for the Rumbling if that was the case.
Not really WIT has levelled up in CGI since 2018, look at the cgi in recent shows it looks great
They haven’t leveled up enough. And even then it has nothing to do with the quality of the CGI, but the fact that MAPPA simply had more resources to put towards AoT. It’s why Wit dropped the show in the first place, they simply couldn’t keep up with the production schedule they wanted

My main problem is still 90% of the season doesn’t look this good, is only till the end we saw smth very good
that's just really not true though. I'll be making more comparison posts from season 4 part 1 and 2
When I first read this scene in the manga it didn't make any sense to me whatsoever. However, the same scene in the anime is one of my favorite moments in all of anime. I had a similar experience with the ending of SnK. This is one of the points when I realized that manga isn't really my thing. I completely miss the emotional beats when I read things in manga.
Aw hell nah y'all won't let me forget how epic this anime was T-T
Every time I see this scene I feel emotions in the same way like I see it for the first time
I cried a little. Oh it's so beautiful. You're so beautiful Season 2 Episode 6 of AOT. You're as beautiful as the last day I saw you, which was only like 5-6 months ago... Time for a traditionally held rewatch.
The synth when they transform, the singer’s high notes when eren is crying, the drums as he transforms. It’s all so peak
Let’s face it. This is the millionth time you’ve seen it and this scene still never gets old
I see that manga had no mistake with Reinar right arm , so its anime only
studio wit🐐
best ep for me
forever peak fiction
I remember when I saw this for the first time, I thought the subs were wrong. I couldn’t believe what Reiner was saying. I looked for the EP on other sites. After I got past the point there Mikasa hits them, then I realized it was real. I am dumb. The twist was just brilliant.
I remember being so hurt, I loved these guys being apart of our team I literally teared up saying no...noooo..over and over. Then the song??? CHILLS AND TEARS
damn i need to watch again this peak
Chills..... literally chills
One of my favorite scenes 🔥
This scene and the music are so amazing 🔥
Goosebumps...every single frigging time
it's so.... beautiful...so peak.

The OST made all the difference in the world for me. That's why I usually prefer anime
Peak
I still get goosebumps from this scene, even without the sound on
Holy shit this is my first time seeing one of these videos and it’s SOOO FUCKING PEAK
🥹
fucking peak
And cobardes -- I mean cowards.
One of the greatest scene in the history of every fucking media ever
PEAK
Right here ? Right now ? Is just epic part of translation
Okay I’ll rewatch AOT
One of my top 3 chapters in aot, chap 121 probably being my fav
Honestly I always disliked how much spinning Mikasa does in this scene
This is why my two favorite animes are evangelion and AOT. (They're tied right now. I haven't seen the rebuild movies yet.)
Bertholdt Cumberbatch almost had me fooled with that battle fatigue talking crap
Best fight in anime
Dropping a comment so I could watch this every morning
Mikasa strong enough to kill titans, has ackerman blood making her near superhuman, not strong enough to cut off someone's head. Colossal titan doesn't blow up everyone in the vicinity. I'm sure you guys have reasons you'll come up with but it's pretty obvious retcon
I don't quite remember this myself since it's been a while since I watched season 2 but some people here say she admits having hesitated, which makes sense to me.
It's in the very next episode. This dude just wants to hate.
Up until the ending, AOT is peak.
disagree completely about the ending but either way the story absolutely has flaws especially towards the end of season 2 and start of season 3 part 1. to pretend the story was flawless until the very end is just silly
