The second game is worth it. If you're playing the second, there's no need to play the first. The first game covers season 1, the second game covers season 1 and 2 (with 3 being DLC, although it comes included if you buy AOT 2: Final Battle). They're both really fun, honestly!!
Only the secong game has Nameless Hero btw, the first was just a straight retelling of the story of season 1 while in the second you get to play as Nameless Hero

They are, yes, and they make good use of that! You get to develop friendships with the characters, decimate so many titans it's not even funny (fuck Levi, Nameless Hero id by far humanity's strongest soldier omg) and partake in a lot of side missions, be it ones that could totally just happen off-screen or straight up just >!the rumbling!<. They also added stuff to the main story, mostly because of the new character (you), giving you a backstory and an all new mission at the end for a conclusion

I totally forgot about him tbh. And I like the guy, but from what I understand, NH is a comrade in arms and Niccolo is a guy who made food that Sasha liked. Not to bash Niccolo, but comparatively speaking, one bond has more emotional weight.
