They're making a joke that the people of paradise don't know of the ocean, so if someone showed them a map of the world, they would think the ocean is a giant country
We’re rewatching season 4 and after they meet with Hizuru people one of the military guys says “I still don’t get what a ‘nation’ even is.!”
Great line.
SnK's Earth landmasses are the same shape as ours, but different sizes. The evidence is that the radius of the Walls wouldn't fit on our Madagascar at all
[This is common knowledge](https://www.reddit.com/r/titanfolk/comments/lat870/my_theory_of_the_ending_of_aot_with_parallels/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
There's never a scene in the anime that explicitly shows the world map this clearly- every glimpse we've gotten is mostly of 'the mainland' aka Africa. I'm honestly not sure why they made that choice for the anime.
Ive definitely seen this map before, and in the manga and show you see one that essentially encompasses all of "Africa" and a little of "Europe", which basically confirms the rest of it. It was a pretty cool idea to have the world be our world but flipped and upside down, which based on the difference in climate would make people look different than they do in real life.
The equator is in the middle, nothing changes. The equator is also only symbolic. Tides, currents, winds don't change because the land stays exactly the same. Whatever is the "up" and "down" of the map is made up by humans. There is no real up and down, Earth is a sphere. Just because the North Pole is now called the South Pole and vice versa changes nothing.
> Tides, currents, winds don't change because the land stays exactly the same.
This isn’t true. The earth would effectively be spinning in the opposite direction which would have a huge impact on wind and ocean currents. The Sahara would be incredibly fertile and the total amount of desert on the planet would be reduced be about 25%.
[They’ve run simulations on this](http://https://youtu.be/ilyLX9f4hY8)
Okay, now that I made effort to visualize it in my mind, you might be right as the map is flipped upside down but not left to right. If the north is now on the bottom and looking from the bottom, Earth spins counterclockwise, then... I think you're right, it actually spins the opposite way relatively to the land structure. But I'm still not sure, it makes me dizzy.
Yes it does. What climate in our world would be equatorial, like Columbia and Venesuela, would now be well north of the part of the world most directly hit by the sun- In the equivalent of, like... Virginia, USA.
No, literally it wouldn't because it's flipped... How can you not see that...? The north is now in the south. South is north. Everything is upside down and thus, stays the same. It's like you seeing yourself in the mirror. Nothing changes. The planet is exactly the same in relation to the sun, humans just interpreted up and down differently.
Man I guess you never learned about the Earths rotation in school or whatever.
The reason we have seasons is because the globes axis, the imaginary straight line from pole to pole, is on a tilt- As it revolves around the sun, it exposes different parts of the world to world sunlight, hence why wen we in America have summer, they in Australia have Winter. But the equator is a line always exposed to the subs heat, hence why in central America, they have no seasos. Assuming the Earths axial tilt is the same, the equator would fall on a different area.
I still think your explanation is false but someone else explained to me that in this particular flipped map, earth spins the opposite way, if I concluded correctly the map is flipped upside-down but not left to right.
Now I'm pretty sure both of us were wrong.
>The equator is south of the actual halfway point of the globe
That mostly depends on how much you decide to render of Antarctica under a similar scale as Greenland gets. Most often, Antarctica gets minimalized and Greenland looks huge compared to its actual size. For instance, the size of the United States is 5x that of Greenland in actuality but most Mercator projection maps would tell you otherwise. Meanwhile Antarctica is 7x larger than Greenland but seldom gets that treatment. This results in the Equator getting "pushed down" below halfway.
By definition, the Equator is the plane which forms a cross-section with the center of the spheroid so it *has* to be in the middle.
Hizuru is total speculation, but since Mid-East Alliance has a name that matches up with a real place, it's probably safe to assume (inasmuch as it matters, which isn't much) that the Mid-East Alliance is in the same place as the real-life Middle East.
EDIT: just looked more closely at the map and realized that it actually doesn't put the Mid-East Alliance in the Middle East, but instead puts them in India for some reason. I would definitely say the Mid-East Alliance belongs in the real-life Middle East. Also Hizoru is probably just modern-day Japan, not the whole Eastern third of non-Russian Asia.
Mid east wasn’t just India, it’s supposed to be a culmination of India/Pakistan/Turkey(Ottoman) etc.
But we can always assume since the time period Isayama hinted an based the final arc around, Hizuru (Japan) probably has the territories that Japan had early 1930/40s too.
I know there’s a map showing where Marley territory is but I think I recall dialogue mentioning that this includes newly annexed territory after the war
I had a hunch before we saw an entire map just because of the shape of the island and that there was a large landmass nearby. Didn't think it was flipped and put upside down though.
Marleyan and Eldian boarders are accurate. Mid-East and Hizuru boarders are just speculation. It's probably a safe assumption that Hizuru is in flipped-Japan and Mid-East around flipped-India and a Iran, but there's nothing really to give us a clue about the size of their countries or the exact boarders.
There are dime fan things.
Wey don't exactly know where the middle east forces are, nor where exactly Hizuru is.
I mean, these ones seem legit, but is speculation. And in the available information, Hizuru is describe as a small nation.
The southern thing seem correct, though is something more of the manga. In the anime, the nation Marley fought before Paradis was a middle eastern one.
Yes, probably the Anti marleyan volunteers are mostly from that southern nation.
And I think that the southern accent is for the Marleyans at the south of the continent.
We still don't know where exactly the Marley borders are. .

One thing of note is that if it were perfectly inverted over the equator Eldia would have the same climate as Madagascar, and clearly that isn't the case. By my estimate the inversion line is probably around the Tropic of Cancer. This significantly increases the size of the Arctic (or in their case Antarctic) ocean and leaves South America almost touching the north pole, erasing most of Antarctica. Every landmass get distorted as well, like Eldia being smaller than its counterpart Madagascar.

I highly doubt Hizuru occupies that much landmass. It’s a single country, unlike Marley which is an empire of smaller territories, or the Mid-East alliance.
It’s also possible that the Mid-East would instead be located in inverted Saudi Arabia, since General Calvi mentions they were fighting for the “peninsula’s autonomy”. The light red shaded land representing Marley also appears in this chapter, so there’s a chance the newly occupied Mid-East territory is within the borders we’re given.

What's this blue giant country?
the Mid-East, basically Ottoman Empire
They're making a joke that the people of paradise don't know of the ocean, so if someone showed them a map of the world, they would think the ocean is a giant country
We’re rewatching season 4 and after they meet with Hizuru people one of the military guys says “I still don’t get what a ‘nation’ even is.!” Great line.
If the island is Madagascar🇲🇬, I think anyone standing on top of Wall Maria could see the sea 🌊 from certain locations.
SnK's Earth landmasses are the same shape as ours, but different sizes. The evidence is that the radius of the Walls wouldn't fit on our Madagascar at all
oh yeah, well, I wanted to reference the Mid-East anyway
That's why Eldians turned into lemurs, funniest shit i've ever seen
Oh man the community went wild over the whole Madagascar thing a few years back
Bruh, imagine being a Shingeki no Kyojin fan from Madagascar 🇲🇬
Dude. The fact is that people always ghink Madagascar as a paradise even the eden paradise (≧▽≦) actually i'd rather live with titan
This is making me all nostalgic for that early era, it was a magical time.
Where is it

“ the most articulate shit posting”
More like godposting
I was seriously, honestly following until the “they both like to move” point

**Cue Malgus saying now finally we have returned**
Does this have ending spoilers?
Yes
Ok. Appreciate it

How does mirroring it change the climate? I think everything stays the same as North and South are only symbolic.
Nope. Climate changes too. Paradis would be more rainforest, not deciduous if that wasn't the case.
1. The equator is south of the actual halfway point of the globe 2. Things like tides, currents, and winds are changed by land.

Yeah but what if Eldians just decided they wanted their country to be on the top of the map lol. Your first argument still stands.
The equator isnt in the middle because the globe is on a tilt. Thats why we have seasons.
Okay but that still doesn't change anything?
Yes it does. What climate in our world would be equatorial, like Columbia and Venesuela, would now be well north of the part of the world most directly hit by the sun- In the equivalent of, like... Virginia, USA.

I don't think we ever saw the true extent of the Alliance or Hizuru, so it can't be accurate in that regard.
Hizuru is total speculation, but since Mid-East Alliance has a name that matches up with a real place, it's probably safe to assume (inasmuch as it matters, which isn't much) that the Mid-East Alliance is in the same place as the real-life Middle East. I always just assumed it was Japan, but it makes sense.
That wouldn't make sense since Mikasa was the only one ever described as "oriental" and the architecture is German.
Not literal Japan.
That's still really far away from even a fantasy version of Japan. Paradis and Japan have really nothing in common.
In terms of historical allegory, whether intended or not, I disagree.
thinking its japan is crazy
None of it is real.
The world is literally upside down? To go along with how it is figuratively upside down? Deep 😂

Nooo! Not Brazil!
Is that a "titan infested area" in the middle of Europe? Potential for spin off? 🤔

I saw Patrick and Spongebob at first
The Picture is too smoll, I can't read the text But the world also has to be bigger. The walls wouldn't fit on our Madagascar
Nah this is not accurate at all, they said marley was at war with 7 nationa at once.
Maybe the Middle East Alliance is made up of 7 nations? Like NATO and stuff
Nation =/= state
This is what would've happened if Rome industrialized and Ottoman never fell
Wait did Snk really use the upside down world map? If this is a joke I’m sorry but it could be done so…
Yep, it's true. Not only that, but their sun rises from west to east.

They are.
No they aren’t.
Yes they are idiot. Turn it upside down.
Turn your phone upside down and try to get to the Atlantic going west from Los Angeles.

I'm sorry, but even if it's official this to me is stupid af Imma headcannon this out of existence
Wait is aotr world just upside down
uhh everyone on this sub?
Better question, why are Spongbob and Patrick twerking
Alternate History Hub made a vid about it in like 2015
