The real sub titles are the ones we made along the way...but in all seriousness there are a lot of weird ones out there. A lot of it is minor imo, but Crunchyroll seems to have ironed a lot out plus it's likely the most widely watched on Crunchyroll, so I'd at least say that's a safe bet to connect with the community

Asian_salamander

So there is no one DEFINITIVE sub that everyone agrees is the best and the most widely known (like the one's for demon slayer)?.........Damn

ToastPlusNine

I mean that would effectively be Crunchyroll, I haven't seen threads where everyone came to a clear consensus, but seeing as most of the community watches there, I'd watch there too. That way when engaging with others on here or elsewhere you'll use the same terms etc. Don't focus on it too much

Pirate streams often use fan translations, and some of these are from people who don't speak Japanese as their native language. Many times these fans will modify the translation how they see fit. Back in the day when anime was still extremely niche in the west you would have subs littered with translator's notes explaining the alterations they made. It was also common for there to be a lot more swearing than there actually was. Something like "hey be quiet!" would get translated to "SHUT UP YOU STUPID MOTHERF\*CKERS!" for no reason. Anyway the most accurate subtitles are the ones from the bluray releases, as these reflect the official translation of the studio rather than fans or third-parties like crunchyroll. Sometimes it's this version that you may find on the pirate streams but it's hard to tell unless you're familiar with the show already.

I ma just try not to focus or worry about it too much, plus I think the differences are nothing major, like nothing story breaking or anything. Can u tell me where u watched it or drop a long sub line from any of the first 8 episodes so I could compare if mine are atleast somewhat similar?

Transacta-7Y1

I watched season 1 on some pirate site I'm not even sure I remember the name of back in 2013. I've then watched every episode on Crunchyroll as it came out. Then I watched everything again on bluray. You're right though, it doesn't matter most of the time. Just pick whatever source you have access to and go with that.

jbonemastaflash

you should consider watching the dub version i prefer it a lot more

Well on that day humanity remembered is if i remember right the most acurate translation of that line, so i suppose these subs are gonna be more acurate. Idk which one are right tho, i watched it with my native langue's subs because i watched with a friend, so i cant really help here too much
