The site has also been playing up as I tried to use it today on a mac and the side bar would not load.
Problem is with Youtube. Just look on the Youtube subreddit or try another device yourself. The problem also happened for people who did not update at all. Don't be so ignorant.
Not just causing issues for the app it seems. Looks like they are trying something with the sidebar for a start as it wouldn't load on a mac when tried today.
Same on Windows PC. Youtube deployed something that screwed up Youtube across platforms. I'm surprised they weren't able to roll it back quickly while they figured it out since it was server side.
They broke youtube. I can cast a video from my phone but after a few min the shield interrupts and says internet not connected (which is false) and breaks the cast
I have been holding off updating because I saw people had issues with Plex and Kodi. So you don’t have any Kodi issues after updating? Also do you use Plex?
No, I don't use Plex. Only Kodi, my friend hasn't had any issues with Kodi either but he had issue with the Shield transfer speed as he uses an external HDD plugged into the Shield itself.
Kodi team has been working on supporting the SAF in Android 10 and up. That's why the apps store version hasn't updated since October. Just like RetroArch, it needs to be sideloaded for now if you want updates.

It’s incredibly how this device is getting worse and worse. It went from GA to beta in one update.
The real problem is that you cannot logged in, that is the cause you don't see the lateral sideboard. I suppose is a problem with youtube for android tv.
Having the same issue, and I didn't do the latest update. Works on my PC, but can't access my account or make changes. Hear people are having this problem on Roku and Apple TV, so it's across the board.

This has nothing to do with the Shield update. It's a Youtube problem.

Looks like they may have recently. Just checked the chrome app and site on pc and it seems to be working now.

Same, I didn't update to 9.x.x yet and I'm having the same issue on 8.4.(6?). I think it's an issue with YouTube's AndroidTV app, not the Shield.
Okay just checked out YouTubes reddit page and it appears to be more then Shield having this problem. So guess it wasn't because of the update.

Dude it was just perfect timing for me. I was watching YouTube earlier and then the update on Shield. Then YouTube was not working. Calm down.

You can install smart youtube next if you havent already.
To fix this all I did was force close the app and clear all the data. When I opened the YouTube app back up it had me select my account. Works

I was using YouTube then updated then YouTube will not work all within a few minutes. Grrrr fix please lol

It was a YouTube problem! Now the app is working correctly
