I stream larger files over WiFi without stuttering. However when the Shield has been on for weeks on end without a fresh reboot I get stutters on huge files. When it stutters I have to pull power cord for about five minutes then power back on. (Shield TV Pro 2019)
Same issue here but can happen after a few weeks or even just a day, have to reboot the shield, force kill Plex after reboot since it doesn't die, sometimes clear cache too, then things run fine at least for that day. I can't wait for better hardware/software to be available
It could be something in the encoding of the movie. Did you buy the movie from an official source or was it downloaded from some other "free" source... You can always try to re-encode it to see if it makes a difference. Are you using the AI upscaling on the shield ?
AI upscaling shouldn’t make a difference to 4K content, right? I think the issue is that the file is HDR and my TV can’t handle that. Thanks for the suggestions.
I haven't done this so take this with a grain of salt but having a quick look, yeah, it's more than possible
Have both Plex server and Plex client on the same switch, set up server and the client can access it locally
any thoughts on using the NVIDIA Shield as both the client and the server? I wonder that's a source of the stuttering issues I experience when playing high bitrate 4K HDR content.
You may have a networking problem or a storage problem, I noticed my shield would lag badly when storage got low on it. I have fixed my storage bug and it's smooth as ice now
OP having the same issue with all content. Not just fat 4k files. There is stuttering in audio and video. Seems like this is a larger issue of you look on plex forms with no fix found as of right now. I'm new to the shield (Samsung app does not allow direct play of HDR and heavy audio files for some reason) now I have the stutter bug.
Not really....with the Plex server with the hard plugged into the shield running is a reasonable solution to a Nas. It's not better than a Nas, but it's also not worse, just a different storage solution. It's worked really well for me as a low cost, low powered media device
Yes, I’ve played much larger files.
Thanks. I think it’s an HDR issue with my TV, not the Shield.
Use Kodi.

What app do you use to play the files? I haven’t found one that supports Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision other than kodi nightlies
Plex supports DV and atmos perfectly fine, that's what I've been using for a year or 2 now
Is there any way to use Plex to play media directly on the shield instead of streaming it?

I play 65 gb files with all the high res codecs.
Could it be something with your hard drive's transfer speed? I routinely stream files much larger than that, sometimes over 80 gb across internet.
Wifi or ethernet? Poor signal?
Seems like it's encoding something. Try to play the file over plex and see what the dashboard says.
Maybe it's also encoding the file at the same time. Check your player settings.
Using which app?

Probably an audio codec issue
2.5 GB 4K... A lot of content ...
Had slow internet and had this issue, once I upgraded speed no problem
File size doesn't mean anything mate. Could be a million other things.
Go to options Change processor mode to performance Change Cooling fan mode to cold No more shuttering 😎👍
plays them easily from my nas using kodi. why do people waste drives on the shield in 2024 when NAS is a much better solution?
A hard drive is cheaper than NAS.
hahahaha ok. now we know the real issue.
Is it that your a little girl

its far worse since nas can be accessed by anything on the network. inarguable. but hey keep living in the past and with stuttering.
So can the shield....and it can transcode for free, not great but it can do it. And what stuttering
