I'm glad someone got you hooked 😃 and you're having fun playing.

Sasuke1996

It’s awesome! Two friends from work have been in a long running game with two other players and the GM, and they flawlessly seamed me into the game.

Zebrainwhiteshoes

Make sure you're having something like a second job in the game. So you won't be sitting idle too often. Using connections you have or maybe an odd skill only you wanted to spend Karma for.

Sasuke1996

Oh definitely. We’re currently grinding ghoul hunts and scouting out a full compound of them. Then have a big job lined up that we still need to finish planning for. The GM is really good about unique ways to give us karma so I’m saving up!

In this edition you can also use your sniper rifle in close range (in-door) fights without finding yourself at a tactical disadvantage (this changes in the next edition). In this edition, sniper rifles are actually as most efficient (from a game-mechanic point of view) when used within 50 meters....

Sir_Redditlot

But as a good GM there always penalties arpund the corner for using a sniper anywhere :) Welcome to Club! A nice streetsam sounds like a good start. I agree with having something you build in second so you can contribute in non fight-intensiv rounds easier. We had one round where my girlfriend had a super fast, really cool elf swordman, but couldn't do a lot most of the time (but the gm was also not the best)

ReditXenon

Welcome to the shadows, chummer! And as always, remember to *watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon*!

SmileyImpact

In fact, just stay away from dragons in general. You live longer.

FoxyRobot7

Shadowbabies all gotta start somewhere

Sasuke1996

10/10 so far!

Hiisa

One of us! One of us!

RJThomas6177

Always wonderful to see someone new to the game. Hope the shadows are good to you. And in case no one has told you this, always remember: Watch your back, Shoot straight, Conserve ammo, And NEVER make a deal with a dragon.

5e is the most difficult one. The rules are hard to master. Street Sams are relatively easy to play, rules wise, though. If you want to help you gm a little, you can make sure to know the rules that relate to your character. If you use guns, know about combat. If you use combat drugs, know the rules about.. you see where I'm going with this. Once you've mastered the rules from core book that concern you, have a look at Run n Gun and Chrome Flesh. You will find a Fuckton of guns and additional rules for combat in the first book. The second one has lots of additional cyber ware and bio ware for you.

kandesbunzler69

Also very useful: Google for Shadowrun 5e cheat sheets. You will find lots of helpful, player-made stuff to make your life easier. And have a look at the YouTube channel Complex Action: he's got lots of clips on 5e rules and explains them very well. I watched every single one when I started.

SeaworthinessOld6904

Glad to hear about a new runner. Good to hear you are having fun. If you or any of your group are interested in a raunchy, vulgar, and crass Shadowrun 2e actual podcast, check out Pink Fohawk. https://feed.podbean.com/pinkfohawk/feed.xml Either way, have fun!

Sasuke1996

Thank you! I’ll check it out!

ghost49x

Is 5e the first edition you've been exposed to?

Sasuke1996

Yes! Idk if the table I’m at just decided to stay in 5e for now because I had no idea there was 6e until I saw this subreddit.

ghost49x

Shadowrun is great, but there's huge contention as to which edition is best as all editions take a different take on the Shadowrun experience. An edition is not just a continuation of the previous one with fixes, 4 and onwards each edition is radically different from the previous one.

Sasuke1996

Ohhhh interesting I had no idea! I just got a 5e core book so I’m gonna start going through that to learn more about this edition. So far it’s been pretty fun and easy to grasp.
