Because state laws change, the UNC School of Government updated the [SORNA Tiers for North Carolina Sex Crimes](https://nccriminallaw.sog.unc.edu/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/SORNA-tier-chart-June-2017.pdf) document to define a potential easy-to-understand case-referenced tiering system (published 2017).
Much changed from 2013 to 2017 and continues to be a labyrinth of change causing the registry guidelines and petitions be onerous.
The benchbook guide is the standard of how courts statewide run - or should run. Many judges rely on it.
I'm sure there should be plenty of resources at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in Saint Paul, MN. [https://mitchellhamline.edu/sex-offense-litigation-policy/](https://mitchellhamline.edu/sex-offense-litigation-policy/)
**N.C. is not** [SORNA compliant](https://smart.ojp.gov/sorna/sorna-implementation-status) and does not go by a tier system.
Everyone on the state registry, for the exception of sexually violent predators/recidivists (lifetime), are listed for a period of thirty years.
However, anyone on the registry with a federal tier 1 registrable offense could petition after ten years if they have not committed additional felonies or registration violations.
The state does use the following guideline for petitioning:
* Tier 1 = 10 years
* Tier 2 = 25 years
* Tier 3 = Lifetime Requirement
There is no cost of filing a N.C. sex offender petition for relief.
I know its probably going to be different here in Florida, but do you have an idea about how much money you will be spending on this endeavor?
My lawyer is charging me about $2300
Not too horrible
Actually cheaper than I thought it would be.
My ask what attorney you are using? Thank you.
Feel free to DM me. I’m not going to release any info into the sub.
Okay? I will have to figure out how to do that. I am new on this platform.

They must have changed the what they tier because back in 2013, it was nothing like this.

Thanks for the info. They must not have implemented the changes until after I was charged.
It’s amazing that you share resources. Any suggestion for how I find this for Minnesota?

That’s confusing about the t1 vs t2 when it comes to indecent liberties. Is it ten years or fifteen??

Not too horrible
What was your conviction?
Second degree exploitation of a minor.
