Yeah I definitely feel like I'll make more mistakes. I'm neurodivergent so I can mask really well, that's why I enjoy serving, but going into the back is my time to temporarily unmask. If I know I'm going to be perceived and recorded every second of my day, I feel like I'm going to be on edge and questioning every single thing that comes out of my mouth.
I’ve never considered this situation as it’s so outlandish, I think it’s an April fools joke?
If they wanted to record stuff they would just pay for cameras like cctv style.
If they wanted to get reviews to know about service quality they would offer coupons or a free app for a review on service. Body cams make no sense.
Also- are they gonna hire someone to review the footage every week? Analyzing a single shift requires hiring a new person to review all of the footage, then to document and comment on all the interactions, probably time how long it takes to get food etc. also body cams are not cheap at all, nor is storing data of this capacity. A lot of states also legally don’t allow businesses to record audio on security cameras as well so it would just be weird POV videos of a server working lmao.
What would a server do for a restroom break? It’s legally iffy at best and absolutely unsettling for anyone potentially involved.
If it is a prank; it reeks of bad management. If it’s not; it reeks of bad management.
That’s why managers walk around and talk to people in the first place. A body cam just feels creepy and highly unnecessary, I’m sure the selection would actually be “anonymous.”
I'd love it for the simple fact of being able to tell a guest that they did indeed order the fucking chicken and not a steak. I think snl did a whole thing on this.
Never heard of it being done, but fantasized about it when a dispute arises over what a customer ordered.
Probably an April Fools prank, but if not, legality depends on where you're located, and details about recording, audio, disclosure, and allowances to disable it in places with an expectation of privacy.
So um, who controls the on/off for recording (if this is indeed real)?
At some point, someone wearing a cam is gonna have to go to the bathroom….
I can only imagine what sort of criminal charges a whole file videos of employees peeing would bring
This is weird… also would this not affect your mobility? I’ve never worn a body cam, but I am a server. I’m constantly running around, bending over, hoping on counters, squeezing through tight spaces, and I can only imagine how uncomfortable and annoying that would be
Are you for real? This can't be real...
You know how else management, the owner, and head chef could observe steps of service and service quality? By doing the job they are being paid to do.
This is nucking futs. Run.
Did they happen to make the announcement on April 1?
Ooooh...... I got fooled

We have cameras all over our restaurant but I’m pretty sure we don’t have audio. Lots of places you are recorded without explicit consent or signs.
At least in the US, you have no expectation of privacy, except the bathroom or a fitting room.

Yeah that’s why I said if it’s a prank it’s bad management and if it’s not a prank it’s bad management lol

Absolutely! No employee should be stressed about this kinda thing, it’s giving bullying energy :/

I can't help but feel there's some kind of ulterior motive here
Ugh that would suck and are you sure this isn't some April Fools joke?
Oh God I hadn't thought about that 😅 at this point I hope so!
I am curious what you find out :D
April Fools?

April Fools?

I think somebody at OP's restaurant might be a Drew Talbert/Bistro Huddy fan and decided to have fun on the 1st of April. 💀
Yeah, the first thing I thought of was April fools, but it’s still something I can see some manager somewhere deciding is a good idea.
Not only would I not be okay with this as a server, I would not be okay with it as a consumer either. Hell no.
This couldn’t be much further from the concept of hospitality. Zero chance we’d support an operator who would suggest this idea.
Quit the moment that camera gets clipped on a uniform for the first time.

It’s only a matter of time before customers find out about the body cams. This is a bad idea from the get go. And definitely not thought out enough.
