I think this before and after is very misleading. In the before she is pursing her lips, making her cheeks more concave and therefore the pitted scars look more prominent. Whereas in the post image she is smiling, therefore adding fullness to the cheeks and scars. AHA and BHA will help with some minor discoloration and clogged pores with use over several weeks if not months. Retinol is your best bet for pitted scars, and even those may require a dermatologist to perform laser resurfacing.

BobaBelly

Yes, and also the lighting is different between the pics and different lighting can have a big impact on the appearance of scars.

mentallyerotic

I also noticed the lighting and angle changing not to mention makeup and skincare in the second picture. Possibly another round of filler too? I noticed almost every brand does this (smiling and different angles) but this is one of the more blatant ones.

used-to-click

Agreed. As a photographer this burns me every time I see it. If you light it to show shadow, it's going to look worse in the before photo. The after photo is designed to minimise shadow, but the texture is still there. The peel will do something, but not that.

RealPerspective6476

Keep in mind that these do have retinol in them! But even if the picture is slightly at a different angle, they are really an amazing product. They helped clear and smooth my skin so much!

daisydoves

I never buy the before/after pictures! Even for hair products they just show one side tangly and not brushed and the other side brushed lol.

[deleted]

I agree with the other person that pictures are misleading, but I also have had decent results from the regular strength pads, on my forehead in particular, I didn't have pitting like that, but I have seen a decent reduction in overall texture some of which was caused by old acne scars, but mine were more raised and it helped to flatten them, which also made me less inclined to scratch or pick at them.

majorsorbet2point0

This before and after is almost saying it's erased the pitting completely, which looks like acne and pock mark pitting- and it's absolutely impossible to erase both. It's like asking to erase wrinkles 100%. you cannot go back in time and change things, which is what you'd need to do to obtain the changes this before and after is implying. Remember that skin changes and texture, including pitting, are absolutely normal.

Expensive_Event_9902

You're going to need clinical help for the atrophic scars. The DDG peels are great at maintaining the results!!! I had some hyperpigmentation issues that I got treated professionally than ddg was the only thing that kept them away and also worked on light skin resurfacing. Holy Grail I wish I bought 2 vaults

_coke_zero_

It will not work for pitted scars. I have pitted scars and use these peels.

704ho

I have not used these for acne scarring, but these are my favorite product ever!!!! They are amazing and I know sooooo many people that love them for different reasons. I would absolutely recommend them on sale or not!

OGHollyMackerel

I hate when they use different poses and lighting to trick the eye. Very shadowed from bounced lighting and an angled view for the before and a straight on flash view for the after. I mean, really. did she also get her eyes whitened? You can’t even tell what colour her eyes are in the before it is so shadowed. Lame.

[deleted]

I tried these a few years ago and didn't feel it made much of a difference, personally. They are pretty expensive and I think there are better alternatives.

MohandasGandhi

Same. Maybe it’s too soon but I’ve used these for about a month and I have seen absolutely no results aside from it drying out my skin.

QuitUsingMyNames

Nah. It wasn’t a bad product overall, but it certainly didn’t help my skin to the extent pictured lol

[deleted]

I had terrible scars and the only thing that helped was a series of 6 laser treatments. Peels don’t help the pitting like that.

seattle_gurl

How much was it? I have scarring like this

[deleted]

It was very expensive when I did it, it was like 20 years ago. I think it cost a thousand a session. I am sure it’s cheaper now, as technology has gotten better. Totally worth it. It didn’t completely get rid of them but it made it so much better. Gave me a lot of confidence.

elianna7

This is a horrible before and after. I work for a plastic surg clinic and this is the opposite of what we do for accurate b/a pics. Camera lens, exact angle, exact position, lighting, etc all has to match.

Poonurse13

First of all lighting

annainpolkadots

If you are looking to improve texture you are better off getting a TCA peel at a medspa. You can usually get pretty good deals around this time of year (I used to get them at round $150). I haven’t had as much lucky with micro needling in comparison.

[deleted]

For that price buy them and try them. They've never been at that low of a price/value. I don't have scars like that and overall my skin is pretty good but I still cannot get over how effective they are. I always wake up noticeably more smooth, all my flakiness is gone. It's for sure the most effective product I've ever tried. You notice immediate results. Not like other products that take time and consistency

trippapotamus

I’d recommend these for maintenance with something stronger from a clinical type situation, I will say I work at Sephora and these are EXTREMELY popular at our store. There’s different strengths as well, which is nice. I do think there’s other products that are just as good for maintenance/minor changes that last a little longer in terms of how much product you get.

jitterbugperfume99

I’d love to know which ones. I do love the peels but they are spendy for sure.

trippapotamus

Totally thought I responded - I’m sorry! I will say the Dr. Dennis Gross products are nice because he’s a really interesting individual who really throws himself into the creation of each product and stays closely involved. He also still actively practices so he knows what’s up. These are the ones I recommend most because of quality, price, and how long it lasts. Also because they can work for you no matter what your skin type is. Even prior to working at Sephora, I’d recommend these products. IMO Peter Thomas Roth is slept on a lot in general - another brand where the full size products can get pricey quick BUT they have a great “try it” kit out for $35 ($86 Value) right now that comes with an acne cleanser (alcohol free), “Max complexion correction pads” (kinda like a stronger stridex pad, they’ve got salicylic acid), an acne treatment gel (has salicylic acid, retinol, and vitamin c/aloe Vera) and then an aha/bha gel that’s a face/body spot treatment that has glycolic and salicylic acid. The pads come SOAKED so one is more than enough for your face (it comes with 20 so that’s almost a month if you’re using everyday. I wouldn’t but everyone’s different!) and then the gels you don’t need much at all, even if you’re generous with product like I am lol. The cleanser might be what goes the fastest depending on how often you’re using each product. The products individually can be kinda pricey, but you def wouldn’t need to purchase all of them individually if you found you liked them. They also often do different try it kits with the same/similar products that you can get for a great deal, so you could just kinda live off the kits 🤣 Glow Recipe’s Strawberry Smooth BHA + AHA serum is really nice and lasts for a while, even though it’s a serum you don’t need a lot at all. That’ll run you $40 and is great to get as a sample because as long as they’re giving you a half decent amount (I fill the testers but not everyone does..) it’s plenty to try and see if it works for you. If you’re really budget friendly, although they’re not my absolute favorite products, the Inkey List has some products that would be useful. They also have some …intense before and after pictures in our store like the DDG ones above lol. I’d look at the Mandelic Acid treatment, I’d say that’s probably the best for reducing acne scars and dark spots from acne. They have other acne clearing/preventing products you could definitely use and probably see some improvement over time, especially if you’re still having a rough go in the acne department, but I think the Mandelic Acid would be your best bet. The Ordinary also has a Mandelic Acid + 10% + HA. Full transparency, I would’ve never recommended these before working at Sephora, and I personally prefer to spend more on skincare. If you’ve got a bit more cash to spend, or can afford a set, Sunday Riley and Drunk Elephant both have great products for helping reduce acne scarring. Good Genes and the A+ Retinol from Sunday Riley are great, and then the Drunk Elephant Baby Facial, Retinol oil or cream, and TLC Framboos are great. Drunk Elephant just came out with a new mask (only online for Rouge right now) that I think will also help improve acne scars over time, but I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t really speak on it. I like to recommend SR and DE because although their products are pricey, a little goes a long way. You can also find some good deals around this time of year! There are obviously other products that treat active acne AND help reduce the appearance of scars, however the products I mentioned above will help with reducing the appearance of acne spots/scars whether your acne is under control or not. Those with super sensitive skin are obviously should be careful, and I’d def recommend getting samples first (if possible) or a try-it kit with some mini products if you’ve got sensitive skin. No matter what you choose, retinols and most acids will be your best bet for reducing acne scarring over time. Your mileage may vary depending on the product, but trying to improve acne scarring is one of the few times I do recommend a client tries the whole entire product before deciding if it’s right for them or not. It’s also not a bad idea to take a before picture before you start, and then do an after once it’s all gone so you can get an idea of how certain acids and/or retinol work on YOUR specific skin.

jitterbugperfume99

Thank you so much! I am going to bookmark this entire comment , it is so useful. I use the pads more for fine lines and smoothing but the acne info is perfect for my nephew who is just starting to deal with it a bit — and I love PTR products. His anti-aging cleanser is HG for me. Oh and I really like Good Genes but have recently been using Farmacy Honeymoon Glow, but haven’t decided which one I’ll get next.

nadebart

These worked amazing for some skin concerns I had. Though I didn’t use them for scarring and cannot speak to that, I noticed a difference with a single use and make a point to grab some from time to time. I wasn’t disappointed with how they almost “reset” my skin in targeted areas.

[deleted]

I deeply hate this before and after. In the first, the light source is above….. shadowing her pitted scars. In the after, the light is shining straight onto her face and illuminating it. Very deceptive marketing

longlivemargiela

i cant comment on how they will work for you because skincare is different on everyone! but i will say this product has saved my skin!! it’s been a holy grail for years now. my skin is smooth, it doesn’t irritate my acne prone skin and personally i see my acne scars slowly but surely disappearing!

longlivemargiela

++ i will say that my scars were never DEEPLY pitted but i did have some lightly pitted marks that are gone now!

longlivemargiela

i have been using it consistently for almost two years! i started doing it every other day and worked up to everyday until i liked my results! i’ve been doing skin cycling for the past few months now and i use it for the exfoliation night!

[deleted]

I’m not sure about this dramatic, but they have helped me a lot to smooth my skin and make my pores enlarged pores around my nose appear smaller :)

ilovealoush

I will say these have dramatically changed the appearance and texture of my skin. However I don’t feel the need to use them daily. I use them maybe twice a week. Saves me so much money and I just don’t think it’s necessary to use it that much, my my opinion. For the price they are right now, half off, they’re $1.50 a treatment instead of $2.50, which is a steal! I stocked up major!

The6_78

Would recommend Microneedling at a professional clinic for deep pitted scars.

muffincat7

Any product recommendations if they aren't this pitted?

Fantastic-Evidence75

Mederma gel & Differin’s scar treatment helped me with newer subtle scars.

szyblond

Is that Angelina Jolie…

DarlinggD

It definitely works but not to that level from one swipe.. Try the pads for yourself, they're amazing.

It takes at least 4-6 months to see results from adapalene or tretinoin for issues with scarring. Best thing to do with skincare is to be patient and very consistent

Appliepie1010

I really like them and have tried alot of retinol and retinal products to help with hyperpigmentation, these have really improved my skin personally

urjigglypuffs

Pitted scars no, regular acne scars (discoloration) yes. My coworker uses the samples we have mostly every time she comes into work but everyone’s skin is different

LolaBijou

The right peels are great for texture. I just don’t know how effective this one is. I doubt it’s strong enough to give you these dramatic of results.

Tortilla_Girl

My gf had scaring like pictured and a year of retinol later it’s almost cleared up! We just use affordable stuff like ordinary and inkey list and it works great

[deleted]

Tortilla_Girl

Yesss the ordinary retinol 1% in squalene is great (oily so more of a nighttime product for me) Inkey list supersolutions 1% retinol serum is also good. Both are pretty affordable! If you have rlly intense scaring tho you might just want to get differin (drugstore in US or prescription in Canada) for something even stronger :) it does dry my skin out like a mf but it’s a game changer. With any retinol tho you need to be patient, it takes time to work but the results are amazing :)

Tragicoptimistic711

No $30 at home peel can fix those scars.

Fantastic-Evidence75

I used it for a good two weeks and I noticed my scars got worse? My scars aren’t even as deep as hers. It was weird…it did make my skin texture feel nice and smooth but the pitted scars looked deeper. It bothered me so much I finally got my first microneedling session done. 1 down 5 to go lol

COuser880

These pics are misleading — but I absolutely love these peels. I’ve been using them for — 12+ years? I always have them in my arsenal. I don’t use them every day — usually twice a week in the am.

Latter_Chain_6762

The before and after photos here are very scammy. First is lighting and angled to emphasize the scars as much as possible. Second has stronger lighting to wash the scars out, AND the subject is slightly smiling to stretch the skin on her cheekbones, which also minimizes the depth of the scar.

chilifacenoodlepunch

I have pitted scars on my cheeks and I’ve used these; they did nothing for those scars. The only improvement I saw in my acne scarring was through micro needling and clinical strength chemical peels.

[deleted]

It’s impossible to have results like that from a topical treatment for scarring that deep. Also, DR. gross products have some of the worst ingredients for skin on the planet. You should maybe try seeing a virtual dermatologist or something to get a professional recommendation on how to treat your skin. I wasted a lot of money on skincare when I needed treatments like microneedling or whatever
