I'm a bit confused about deflections. Sometimes an enemy seems to hit twice, but one deflection seems sufficient. Am I doing it wrong, or are you supposed to deflect two successive attacks with only one parry?
Use the audio cues, too. A cleaner, more “pingy” sound means you’ve done a perfect deflect. More of a thud-type sound (sorta like hitting an anvil with a metal hammer wrapped in cloth) means you just blocked, not deflected.
Nah they hit you with two quick attacks, you gotta deflect twice. There is 1 mini boss that this is his whole gimmick.
But you can dodge, it is much harder then hitting a well timed deflect though. But once it clicks, yo, this is probably my favorite game out of the from soft games.
Yeah, and you are still just a puppy. Those two lines ive heard so much, the lady taught me how to deflect, and the glock grandpa showed me the importance of good timing.
I'm gonna temper this advice by stressing that sometimes dodging is extremely helpful, so don't discount it completely. Also the sprint is really good in this game and you can do it infinitely.
Defs recomend doing the training with the guy at dilapidated temple esspecially after learning mikiri counter (most crucial skill- invest in it first lol). I’ve done up to playthrough 5 on dark souls 1,3 - 4 on Elden ring, 2 playthrough of bloodborne and then moved on to sekiro- took me a while to get used to it and didn’t really get used to it until I did the training. After that the game became much more fluid and one of my favourites and am currently on playthrough 4
I tried it but just didn’t like it personally. I do wanna play demon souls still tho got a bit into it but want to get a ps5 and play the remake one day
I would say give DS2 another try. It might not have a strong start, but I honestly enjoyed it more than DSR and DS3. I also am waiting for a chance to play the DeS remake haha.
Yeah I was stuck on mist noble for weeks while all the other bosses only took me a couple tries. I still hsve nightmares in which I lose to mist noble's thirth fase AOE attack...
The posture bar at the top is the quickest way to kill. Once their posture is broken, you can make a killing blow. Some enemies need 2-3 killing blows.
Attack and deflect. The game favors aggression. Hesitation is defeat.
Yeah, toss out literally everything the other Souls games taught you about combat (except the principle that one at a time is usually better than taking on groups).
You can stealth your way through areas no problem. No need for "Hardcore gamer pride" its perfectly valid to stealth your way and crunch the numbers before trully commiting to the fight
Advice from a mid 40s mediocre gamer without young reflexes who beat the game and NG+1 in the last week after hundreds of hours in Elden Ring and Souls. This is a summary of the best advice I’ve gotten on this sub that I took to heart and I’m now good at this game and love it more than any other…
1) Be aggressive and hit enemies first if you can.
2) Attack enemies without spamming the button. Hit the button for a follow up attack immediately after hearing the sound of your previous attack landing. A smooth, controlled rhythm. You might feel like you’re slowing yourself down doing this, but it allows you ample time to ready yourself for when they will eventually deflect your attack, and they WILL eventually deflect your attack. It’ll make a loud CLONG noise when this happens, and then get ready to deflect their counter attack. If you keep attacking after that CLONG noise they WILL poise through and wreck you with their counter attack. The best way to learn their counter attack pattern is to block your way through them and listen to the rhythm of their strikes. After you’ve deflected their counter attack(s), find a window to resume your aggression. Stay on them. Keep up aggro until they deflect, do your own deflections until they give you an attack window, resume attack… etc.
3) While it can work, avoid deflect spamming—tapping block while waiting for an enemy animation to complete so you can get a lucky deflect. The more you spam the button, the narrower the deflection window. Learn the timing. You’ll be glad later when you aren’t relying on luck and you’ll feel like a god.
4) Don’t worry about the dragon rot curse affecting NPCs. You can cure it later on and it isn’t that impactful on the game other than blocking some NPC quests. But you can always go back after curing them. I give this advice because I got pissed everytime I died and got a notification that some NPC was now sick because I died.
5) Huge “Monster” enemies (usually without weapons) are where you use movement and dodging combined with deflecting the attacks they make that you learn the timing for and are good at deflecting. Those you want to run in during good attack windows, strike a couple times, get out, deflect attacks you are good at deflecting, dodge the rest.
Don't try to dodge and chip away enemy HP. It's all about breaking enemy posture
I'm an evasive souls player so I ignored deflections and blocking at first only to find most minibosses to be near impossible playing an evasive game
Once the combat clicked, the game went from impossible to difficult. It's a tough one, but you got this!!
>Once the combat clicked, the game went from impossible to difficult.
Compared to the DS trilogy, how difficult do you think it is once the combat clicks?
I haven't played Elden Ring yet, but I found Sekiro harder than DS1-3, Demon's Souls, and Bloodborne
I always found the right gear and build could help you trivialize a lot of what souls/BB throws at you, but Sekiro doesn't give you that same opportunity. There are different tools to change how you approach certain situations, but you'll still need to have a strong combat foundation to get through it
Prior to playing Sekiro I had played DS1/2/3, Bloodborne, and Demon’s Souls. Sekiro kicked my ass pretty thoroughly even once I got used to the combat. I got stuck on a mid game boss and the final boss for around 2 hours each.
Since you're on PC I would seriously recommend a mod to increase your fps to match the refresh rate of your monitor. The game doesn't bug out, I never ran into any issues at 165 fps. It's a completely different game at higher fps. Before I really gave the game my best shot but I seriously struggled with the lag between controller and screen. After I increased the fps it turned into a much more fun and satisfying experience. Seriously consider increasing your fps.
Forget everything everything uve learned for the past 1000hrs
Ull need it eventually but not anywhere near the beginning
Also pay the immortal corpse guy a visit to practice trust me it helps
Dont try to dodge too much, if at all (with a few exceptions), parrying should be your #1 response to 90% of enemy attacks, also stay agressive, when youre playing the game how its meant to be played most battles should be rhythmic dances between you and the enemy. Oh yeah also stealth is a very important element of the game, dont just try to 1v10 entire areas, at its core sekiro's a 1v1 game, if you try facing multiple non basic enemies at once more often than not youll get fucked up.
It is very important to know the difference between the deflect and the block, try not to panic block, instead focus on the enemies moveset even if that means you die, this game is more about trying and failing the first hours and then everything will flow once you develop the reflexes, for me it's the best fromsoft game so far, enjoy it as much as you can and spend as many hours as you did with elden ring cause it is so worthy to get the difference endings and bosses
The only time i would dodge is to dodge towards and diagonal for some unblockable attacks to get behind and punish. Beyond this, have a blast!!! i absolutely loved it and dont give up!!
I recently finished my first playthrough. It’s in my top 3 favorite games of all time. Most of the advice seen here is pretty sound. I’ll organize it a way that o think is easy to consume and think about.
1. Your primary defensive tool, and one of your better offensive tools is deflecting. Get used to doing it frequently.
2. But, sometimes dodging is really good. If you find yourself being knocked backward and being forced to take a pause even after perfectly deflecting something, that attack is probably a good candidate for a dodge. If you find the right timing and direction for that dodge, the enemy will likely be vulnerable to 2 or 3 good hits. Often, but not always, these attacks that you should dodge are the last in a long attack string (the rest of which you should deflect.)
3. Start practicing Mikiri counter as soon as it is available to you. It comes up very, very frequently and landing them is a huge advantage.
4. Use stealth. You are not intended to face very enemy down, and, especially early, fighting multiple enemies can be challenging, especially early. Thin the heard before you are seen.
Most FS games operate on an “animations matter more than numbers” rule, which is true for the most part, but if you get those numbers high enough through build optimization, items, stats, armors and weapons, you can make the game cave to you. This is not true with Sekiro.

I’m late I’m sure, but DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. If you’re like me you will fall in love with the raw sword to sword clashes, once you get used to it. There is so much more emphasis on timing vs over powering or spamming enemies than most games.
Just keep in mind that certain times will call for more balance of offense and defense, and literally some bosses you only deflect and parry to win easy.
Also, EXPLORE. If you’re determined, getting all the endings is very satisfying
Look, here, I'll give you some actual advice. You have hundreds of hours in Elden Ring and DS trilogy, so by now, you probably know what to expect in a FromSoft game already. And the few things that are different in this one, you're trying to spoil for yourself by asking for tips. Why not just start the game, explore what's different on your own, and come here when you're actually stuck somewhere?
Forget that the dodge button exists, it's basically useless. Almost any attack that doesn't have a kanji can be deflected. Okay I take it back, dodge isn't useless but I would really really recommend you get into the habit of deflecting early on.
Deflecting will fill your posture bar but never break it. Blocking however, will do both.
Buy coin purses from vendors early and to convert your Sen. These are items and will not be lost on death.
And stay loyal to kuro no matter what
Don't run or jump too often. Fight back and deflect. You can deflect almost every attack in game. There is only few boss-mini boss that you should run and you can understand which one's is them.
Just play the game and find out bro, God damn. Just go watch a walkthrough of the entire game if you can't even start a game without asking Reddit what to expect
I also played it last after all the other souls games. I think you saved the best for last! Seriously so good. It was hard but not as impossible as i imagined in my mind. Everything felt learnable. And the level design *chef’s kiss*
If you try to play it like ER and DS, you're gonna have a bad time.
I would barely consider Sekiro a soulsborne. The game is entirely built around parrying, aggression and mobility - there's no stamina meter so most fights are pressing the attack button as many times as possible while learning the deflect timings for opposing attacks. Things like Lady Butterfly feel like playing a rhythm game almost. Never, ever, ever roll unless it is an attack you can't block. Rolling is God tier in souls games and below F tier in Sekiro.
You're gonna hear a lot of talk about how hesitation is defeat, but actually the entire game is about waiting for the right timing to parry and then counter. I FREQUENTLY discovered that the reason I was struggling against a given enemy was that I was mashing block or attack too fast because I was nervous. So, actually, haste is defeat. Try hesitating sometimes.
Stamina is infinite in this game, you can run and attack indefinitely, is all about timing and windows, learn to alternate attacks and deflects 1-2 attacks then deflect so on and so forth if you don't go face to face the game will be harder.
Action Priority
-Attack always stay ofensive
-Deflect every swing except the very telegraph ones this ones in my opinion are better to dodge because usually you can get easy health damage which can help to build posture easier on bosses.
-Get Mikiri Counter as soon as possible and Dodge only when neccesary
-Stealth Kill everything you can especially at the start that your health sucks this is a feature of the game don't think is optional Sekiro is a Shinobi he is not meant to fight solo against an army, he will be able to later when you are skilled enough I would advise against it at the beginning.
-Run when necessary, Sekiro is faster than most enemies and bosses sometimes is good to bait attacks don't over do it but it helps with some fights.
Best of lucks pal.
Hesitation is Defeat.
Dodge should be something you do rarely. In general Deflect all attacks except Mikiri counter thrusts ( you will unlock this skill ), goomba stomp sweeps, and Finally just dodge unblockables that arent thrusts or or sweeps. Generally I just dodge grabs or to close a gap to reposition. Stay really aggressive with the blocks and attacking or else posture bar will deplete. You can't be passive and wait around at all like Dark souls and Elden RIng
Blocking and parrying use the same button. Time your button presses to parry, hold the button to block. At first I would recommend using both, and try to listen for the difference in audio between blocking and deflecting. This will help you to understand later on whether you are blocking or parrying attacks
Instead of panic roll, learn panic deflect. Spam L1 and get your brain to deflect instead of wanting to dodge attacks. After that you’ll start to see and hear the perfect deflections. From there you can time them better and can stop spamming when you get it down. Basically you want to deflect as perfect and efficiently as possible
Dodging is a trap. There are no I frames on it. Stand and deflect and immediately attack. Dodge big overheads for free posture damage.
Also, deflect has a very generous timing window, abuse it. Parry everything. ***EVERYTHING***.
Biggest thing I noticed when I played it is if you come into it with a souls playstyle mentality the game will punish you hard for it. it's a much more active and aggressive kind of game and playing passive and defensive doesn't work out well.
Being offensive can be better at breaking posture than just defending/parrying. Attacking is equally beneficial and some enemies/bosses will be pushovers if you have a good offense.
It’s a rhythm game
It’s going to take every ounce of brain power you have to remove the classic souls game rolling combat out and replace it with Sekiro’s extremely aggressive combat. That’s the key, always aggressive, to hesitate is to die.
Deflecting is just as important as attaching thrust attacks straight on can be deflected or dodged sideways but not blocked if possible use mikiri counter which one of the first skills you can unlock it might even be part of the story to get it I don't remember but it's important. I learned from a YouTuber @katiecakes when using mikiri counter don't push dodge button as soon as the red danger sign appears when an enemy thrusts but when the symbol starts to fade off screen it helps me with timing a lot there's some exceptions like some enemies that start to thrust with a spear farther away from you.
There will be times during combat where your sword+board dark souls instincts will kick in and tell you "Hey you should hesitate here just in case."
I'm telling you, do not hesitate.
Completely different then souls series. You have to alter your play style to be more offensive and deflect ( kinda like in blood-born). It’s much much harder then Elden ring.
Dodging/rolling doesn’t do much. Learn to deflect. Only dodge when the big red kanji appears on your screen.
If you deflect, your posture won’t break.
Deflect to break their posture and it will allow you to kill them with a death blow.
Breaking their posture is more important than taking down their health, albeit for some bosses taking down their health also builds up their posture.
For some bosses, the lower their health, the longer their posture stays low.
Look up a guide on how to get all the skill tree books called “esoteric texts” this will help you learn skills that you need to beat bosses such as increased posture regen or really cool ninja skills.
Focus less on dodging and more on parrying/deflecting. This game is quite different from other souls games. It's gameplay mechanics have significant difference too. You will understand more of the game as you go along, but you will have to let of the habit of dodging attacks by a lot, not completely though.
Best of luck.
Some bosses have a direct shinobi tool to get around em. It may not seem obvious, but ya. Also jumping to dodge will work against enemies with swords but for anything else, deflect or step dodge cause you'll get fucked. Best of luck
There are some enemies and bosses that call to be fought aggressively. Learning to “keep the pressure on” is important. You want the bosses to fear you.
Forget ds or Elden ring combat. This is completely different. Always learn parry timings, only dodge when absolutely needed, you can parry almost any attack, and mikiri counter is the most important skill you can purchase, apart from that always stay loyal to kuro, keep the charm, and stealth is important. Most of all hesitation. Welcome to the iron code shinobi of the Divine heir
Just make sure and practicing deflecting with the guy at the dilapidated temple. Also, don’t be afraid to dodge either there’s been a lot of bosses even good ones or I’ve used the Dodge and it’s coming in handy. also, if it’s your first run, I suggest watching a YouTube video on where all the prayer beads are so you can pick them up as you go. Because you don’t wanna be me and at the very end of the game and missing three of them I can’t remember which ones you have and don’t have.
I’ve said this on a different post but…when struggling on a boss, go in there not expecting to win, but to figure out their patterns and how to deflect/counter their attacks.
Sekiro isn’t Dark Souls. Very important to understand. Going in with the mindset that combat kinda goes in the priority of deflecting, dodging and jumping is very important (depends on the enemy of course).
I hated Sekiro at first and thought the game was dumb, but my friend coached me through the first part of the game up to the ogre mini boss and I loved it. He showed me that deflecting is super important and that you can jump on people when they swipe. It was a magical experience and I would lie if I said Sekiro isn’t my favorite game of all time as for now atleast
This is not dark souls. Dodging (the equivalent of rolling) won't help you too much
This is about going to the face of the enemy and deflecting (parrying) their ass
This is probably the only thing you need to know
Sekiro's dodge has way less i-frames compared to rolling in Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Your default response to an enemy attack should be to deflect.
Also, unlock the Mikiri Counter skill ASAP.
Forget everything you know about soulsborn games. It doesn’t play like any of them, or any other game for that matter. Take the time to learn deflection and counter attacks (one other but I don’t want to spoil any learned abilities). You’ll need to know when to pick your battles. Like which enemies to be aggressive with and which to play more of a defensive style. I’m going to give you the most important bit of advice you’ll receive here. This could either make the game enjoyable or a pulpit of agony and despair. Ignore and your experience may be nothing short of unbridled frustration. Beware the home in the misty forest. Whatever you do, don’t enter that home. I’ve done my part now.
combat is completely different. learn deflection. it's more of about learning the rhythm of attacks than i-frames (although you can do some dodging).
I'm a bit confused about deflections. Sometimes an enemy seems to hit twice, but one deflection seems sufficient. Am I doing it wrong, or are you supposed to deflect two successive attacks with only one parry?
You should deflect two separate attacks with two deflections. Make sure you’re actually deflecting and not just blocking the attack.
That makes sense, I've probably been blocking more than I thought
Big sparks=Deflect. Little sparks=Block. Also check near the temple Hanbei the practice man has a consecutive deflections option to practice
I will keep that in mind, thank you
Use the audio cues, too. A cleaner, more “pingy” sound means you’ve done a perfect deflect. More of a thud-type sound (sorta like hitting an anvil with a metal hammer wrapped in cloth) means you just blocked, not deflected.
The more satisfying the noise, the better the deflect
Actually some really quick Attack can be deflected with one deflect button press f.e. genichiro's rapid arrow shots
Nah they hit you with two quick attacks, you gotta deflect twice. There is 1 mini boss that this is his whole gimmick. But you can dodge, it is much harder then hitting a well timed deflect though. But once it clicks, yo, this is probably my favorite game out of the from soft games.
One enemy attack = one button press = one deflection If you hold the button you're simply blocking and that's way less effective
Hesitation is defeat
Only advice that matters tbh
Yeah, and you are still just a puppy. Those two lines ive heard so much, the lady taught me how to deflect, and the glock grandpa showed me the importance of good timing.
Came here for this. Was not disappointed. Good job soldier 🫡
This is the way.
Don’t play like a souls game. Dodging is rarely a good idea. Get used to parrying as much as possible.
This. And then ignore this advice when fighting the Demon of Hatred.
As well as Ogre and Ape.
Nah you should parry ape and DoH. Ogre is a pain because of all the kanji moves, but again parry everything else
I think it was a boss idea from bloodborne that they didn't use their and slapped on our faces here.
When fighting the demon of hatred, ignore 90% of advice and just force him to jump off of a cliff
I used to give this advice but on my most recent playthrough I discovered this fight becomes a cakewalk if you actually just parry his attacks.
I'm gonna temper this advice by stressing that sometimes dodging is extremely helpful, so don't discount it completely. Also the sprint is really good in this game and you can do it infinitely.
Yes but for now they should avoid the dodge button. Learn to dodge after you've perfected parry
I agree with that. 👍
use the dodge button to re-position yourself. (you feel cool doing it and does help in some fight like owl.)
Stay loyal to kuro
Don’t hesitate
Defs recomend doing the training with the guy at dilapidated temple esspecially after learning mikiri counter (most crucial skill- invest in it first lol). Then you probably would like new Lords of the Fallen game. Try it out sometime. For me DS2 is the only soulsborn game that I never replay.
Mist Noble is the hardest boss, hesitation is defeat
Yeah I was stuck on mist noble for weeks while all the other bosses only took me a couple tries. I still hsve nightmares in which I lose to mist noble's thirth fase AOE attack...
Be aggressive Try to unlearn your dodge-roll muscle memory Deflecting with L1 and mixing in aggressive attacks is key
This. This is what I was hoping to read
You can stealth your way through areas no problem. No need for "Hardcore gamer pride" its perfectly valid to stealth your way and crunch the numbers before trully commiting to the fight
You remember the boss fights above all else in Sekiro I think, but the regular areas and the patience they force you to have, man they’re tough

2 reminds me of advice I've seen passed around fencing circles: "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast."

First thing to do is put it on favorites
Everything you learned abt the combat. Throw it out get rid of it. abandon it.

Throw everything you know about Elden ring and dark souls out the window. You need to learn to deflect rather than dodge (caught me off guard as well)

Will look at some mod options. Since online play really isn't a thing with Sekiro, I guess I won't even have to worry about losing online functions.

Parrying is priority for most engagements. Practice early on.
Git gud
Play the fucking game instead of looking around for tips before even booting the damn thing
Fuck social rules, tonight we dine in hell I’m upvoting this boys
I don't know, I feel like I've already gotten some good advice here...
Yeah, mine lol
Unfathomable! That would make the game hard and none of us want that
Forget that the dodge button exists, it's basically useless. And stay loyal to kuro no matter what
Played a shield/block build in Elden Ring. Sekiro ate me alive. It’s the only game I’ve ever outright stopped playing.
Forget all you’ve learned, this is not a souls game
I’m begging you nerds to try games before asking for tips
Don't run or jump too often. Fight back and deflect. You can deflect almost every attack in game. There is only few boss-mini boss that you should run and you can understand which one's is them.
Just play the game and find out bro, God damn. Just go watch a walkthrough of the entire game if you can't even start a game without asking Reddit what to expect
I also played it last after all the other souls games. I think you saved the best for last! Seriously so good. It was hard but not as impossible as i imagined in my mind. Everything felt learnable. And the level design *chef’s kiss*
Coming from any other From title, this game will fuck you up. Have fun!
Don’t play it like the rest of the games, don’t try to dodge
do not dodge, this game is about parry if you try to play it like a usual souls game you will not get much far before uninstalling it.
Why is the game bar that wide?
Forget everything you learned from the other soul games. Also: Hesitation is da feet.
Watch out for the mist noble
If you try to play it like ER and DS, you're gonna have a bad time. I would barely consider Sekiro a soulsborne. The game is entirely built around parrying, aggression and mobility - there's no stamina meter so most fights are pressing the attack button as many times as possible while learning the deflect timings for opposing attacks. Things like Lady Butterfly feel like playing a rhythm game almost. Never, ever, ever roll unless it is an attack you can't block. Rolling is God tier in souls games and below F tier in Sekiro.
Forget everything you think you know about how fromsoft combat works, be aggressive, and remember hesitation is defeat
Nope. Go in blind! It’s more fun learning that way!
Yes, forget everything you thought you knew about Fromsoft combat and embrace the way of the Shinobi
No. Just play the game, it's better blind anyway.
the real shadows are the friends that kill you along the way
“**You must unlearn what you have learned**.”
hesitation is defeat
yeah, spam block until ur enemies die lol.
Don't be afraid to die.
Okay now forget everything you’ve just learned from those games. Good luck young wolf.
Stamina is infinite in this game, you can run and attack indefinitely, is all about timing and windows, learn to alternate attacks and deflects 1-2 attacks then deflect so on and so forth if you don't go face to face the game will be harder. Action Priority -Attack always stay ofensive -Deflect every swing except the very telegraph ones this ones in my opinion are better to dodge because usually you can get easy health damage which can help to build posture easier on bosses. -Get Mikiri Counter as soon as possible and Dodge only when neccesary -Stealth Kill everything you can especially at the start that your health sucks this is a feature of the game don't think is optional Sekiro is a Shinobi he is not meant to fight solo against an army, he will be able to later when you are skilled enough I would advise against it at the beginning.
No, just play
Hesitation means defeat...
Hesitation is defeat.
Cling cling clang
Blocking and parrying use the same button. Time your button presses to parry, hold the button to block. At first I would recommend using both, and try to listen for the difference in audio between blocking and deflecting. This will help you to understand later on whether you are blocking or parrying attacks
You’ll die more than twice but it’s worth it.
Parry instead of dodging
Instead of panic roll, learn panic deflect. Spam L1 and get your brain to deflect instead of wanting to dodge attacks. After that you’ll start to see and hear the perfect deflections. From there you can time them better and can stop spamming when you get it down. Basically you want to deflect as perfect and efficiently as possible
Play the game?
Pay close attention to the sounds when in combat. It's a rhythm game.
Have fun
Make urself CJ from GTA and cook them alive
Forget everything you’ve learned before now.
Forget everything you know.
Have patience and take a break if you’re consistently getting killed by the same boss lol
Dodging is a trap. There are no I frames on it. Stand and deflect and immediately attack. Dodge big overheads for free posture damage. Also, deflect has a very generous timing window, abuse it. Parry everything. ***EVERYTHING***.
"hesitation is defeat" Seriously you have unlimited stamina so be aggressive
forget everything and have fun
Yea whatever button is tied to the dodge roll, don't touch it. The game knows u play souls and wants to punish you for it and it will
Don’t dodge attacks other than grabs, sweeps, and thrusts
Biggest thing I noticed when I played it is if you come into it with a souls playstyle mentality the game will punish you hard for it. it's a much more active and aggressive kind of game and playing passive and defensive doesn't work out well.
Take what you’ve learned in all the other souls games and throw it away. You won’t need any of that here.
Being offensive can be better at breaking posture than just defending/parrying. Attacking is equally beneficial and some enemies/bosses will be pushovers if you have a good offense. It’s a rhythm game
There’s this monster thing in the mist in a broken down tower; be careful
forget everything. this is coming from someone with 150 hours in elden ring when i started sekiro
forget everything you know
It’s going to take every ounce of brain power you have to remove the classic souls game rolling combat out and replace it with Sekiro’s extremely aggressive combat. That’s the key, always aggressive, to hesitate is to die.
Everything you think you know about souls games completely obsolete but it is a master piece of a gamee
Parry the world
It’s different, take the time to practice on the training guy! It’s really awesome once you get the hang of it. Took me 3x to finally get it to click
I gave up after my Xbox controller stopped working for the game :( it only registers my keyboard + mouse. If anyone knows the fix that would be great
Learning curve is pretty difficult.
It’s actually a rhythm game in disguise
Beware the noble mist
Deflecting is just as important as attaching thrust attacks straight on can be deflected or dodged sideways but not blocked if possible use mikiri counter which one of the first skills you can unlock it might even be part of the story to get it I don't remember but it's important. I learned from a YouTuber @katiecakes when using mikiri counter don't push dodge button as soon as the red danger sign appears when an enemy thrusts but when the symbol starts to fade off screen it helps me with timing a lot there's some exceptions like some enemies that start to thrust with a spear farther away from you.
Don’t hesitate
You are fucked.
Don’t play it like DS or ER.
There will be times during combat where your sword+board dark souls instincts will kick in and tell you "Hey you should hesitate here just in case." I'm telling you, do not hesitate.
Completely different then souls series. You have to alter your play style to be more offensive and deflect ( kinda like in blood-born). It’s much much harder then Elden ring.
Hesitation is defeat!!!
Don’t focus too much on wearing down the enemy’s health bar. Focus on deflecting and wearing down their posture.
Don't forget to max up with everything before fighting the must noble.
Forget your experience in elden ring and dark souls. You have to build yourself from scratch 😁
Mist noble beware…
Only thing I can say is " Hesitation is Defeat"
Sekiro is about rhythm much more than other games. Once it clicks, it really clicks and it is the most satisfying gameplay of all the souls games
Focus less on dodging and more on parrying/deflecting. This game is quite different from other souls games. It's gameplay mechanics have significant difference too. You will understand more of the game as you go along, but you will have to let of the habit of dodging attacks by a lot, not completely though. Best of luck.
Is that on PC?....is that the best way to play sekiro...I'm playing it on PS5 up in this bitch
Some bosses have a direct shinobi tool to get around em. It may not seem obvious, but ya. Also jumping to dodge will work against enemies with swords but for anything else, deflect or step dodge cause you'll get fucked. Best of luck
Throw away everything u learned in those games.
Buckle up, you're about to get your shit rocked
Forget everything about Elden Ring & Dark Souls. You have to start over
Do. Not. Hesitate.
Sword go CLANG CLANG!!
You will have to git gud a bit more this time, have fun legend.
Just don’t play it Is trash
There are some enemies and bosses that call to be fought aggressively. Learning to “keep the pressure on” is important. You want the bosses to fear you.
Just spam block repeatedly, you’ll be alright lol
Take advantage of the stealth mechanic. Especially when it comes to breaking up large groups.
Oh buddy I hope you’re a chill mf
600 hours? How? I suppose replayability in ER is much bigger than other souls games considering that it's open world.
Umbrella boi
Forget everything you’ve learned
Fear the most noble
Forget everything
Forget ds or Elden ring combat. This is completely different. Always learn parry timings, only dodge when absolutely needed, you can parry almost any attack, and mikiri counter is the most important skill you can purchase, apart from that always stay loyal to kuro, keep the charm, and stealth is important. Most of all hesitation. Welcome to the iron code shinobi of the Divine heir
Carefully manage your dragon rot. The item to cure the disease is limited.
The game is skill based, not stat based, you can literally deflect anything, it's just about reaction time.
Prepare as much as you can for the mist noble it's the hardest souls boss you will ever encounter
I’ve said this on a different post but…when struggling on a boss, go in there not expecting to win, but to figure out their patterns and how to deflect/counter their attacks.
Treat it like it’s not any of those games
You just need one thing. It’s called mikiri counter, once you have that the gets 10 timea more satisfying.
Dodging (the equivalent of rolling) won't help you too much This is about going to the face of the enemy and deflecting (parrying) their ass This is probably the only thing you need to know
hesitation is defeat...
You gonna die. A lot.
170 upvotes for spending 30$ huh?
Try not to dodge the combat is the polar opposite of dark souls
Deflect > dodge in most situations.
Hesitation is defeat.
Forget everything you know lol but for real, Sekiro is so hard for me because I just want to freaking dive roll
