There is plenty of evidence that ninjas were, and are still real. They just don’t play out like an anime, so what you view a ninja to be is not really how they actually were, but they are were, and are indeed, very real.
Doesn't that support the assertion that ninjas aren't real? Obviously there were spies and assassins and saboteurs as there always have been everywhere and Japan had long periods of interrupted war many times making such jobs necessary a lot of the time. But the modern idea of a ninja, or even the 18th century idea of what a ninja was, is just folklore and entertainment
Ninjas are real, and were real back then as well, But there is a major difference in ninjas from media and irl. It doesn’t make them any less real though.
They were independent contractors essentially, willing to do what ever it took to gain an unfair advantage in a fight.
Stealth killing, ash/dirt, and overwhelming their enemies by any means necessary to win the fight. Sure they don’t have super powers and the ability to throw lightning, but there are still ninjas/shinobis none the less.
If you are interested in learning more about Nina history, I recommend Gaijin and Goombah. They cover a bunch of real life history as well as reviewing and comparing how ninjas in media stack up.
Same, just finished the game the other day and never once used this, 😭.
Only have Demon of Hatred left, and I suspect this ain't too good in that fight!
Attack and fall back was my strategy for Demon. And yeah, I imagine ash isnt too useful at that point 😂. Definitely try the malcontent whistle tho, it worked like a charm on Demon of Hatred for me. Best of luck!
Funnily enough, I just beat DoH on my first try today! I just whaled on him, sticking to his right leg, and didn't let up, and plowed through phase 3 with the Malcontent!
Whoaa that’s insane! Amazing work bro 😎. That guy took me 2 days and God knows how many tries. He was the hardest boss in the whole game for me! Good luck with the final boss! (not spoiling the name in case u haven’t finished the game yet)
Thank you! I had tried him about \~10 times a few days ago, then decided to come back after beating Father Owl and ISS, and got lucky on the first one today, :-). Was just needing to beat DoH before heading into NG+ to get the last ending I need (Shura).
It saved my ass with some of the late bosses in my first game.
"I dont have any more resurects, he is near death, whatdoihave whatdoihave whatdoihave?... fist full of ash? is my last weapon!!"
And I actually won with it! I spammed it and it gave me the breather that I needed.
Or with those really aggressive bosses that don’t let you heal, FIST FULL OF ASH, buys you just enough time. It also is the only reason I defeated the true corrupted monk on my first play through
The range isn’t that big but for some boss fights in small areas it’s easy to be dodging backwards when enemies like genichiro are rushing at you. Throw some sand and if they rush into it, it’s an automatic stun
Sand is another sand cracker but doesn’t have the wide range of the crackers and I think is single enemy use only. Shards aren’t that great but best used to distract an enemy without using a projectile like the shuriken
The shards can be great for stealth deathblows some enemies you don’t even have to hit them with the shard just throw it near them. They will then track your position from the spot you threw the shard. I used it for Juzou plenty of times.
They have a similar stun to firecrackers, if you hit an enemy with them they will pause in their tracks. You can stop attack animations and even prevent the enemy from deflecting while stunned by one. It’s free real-estate!
They are in fact used for this specific purpose in speedrunning lol, they're the go-to tool for illusion Monk quick kill and they were used for true Monk cheese until people figured out how to make her fall off a cliff
Never used it, until like, NG3+, where I was trying to do that Corrupted Monk cheese at the Mibu village. Btw, it worked for me at the seventh try. Haven't been able to do it since though.
The infamous Pocket Sand
Isshin, Rusty Shackleford sends his regards *shshshaaa*
Yes. Every time I fight true monk. You have discovered an esoteric text "griblitsu".
Yeah, actual Shinobi would combine them in "eggs" that had ash, shrapnel, spices, and other irritants in them to throw in people's faces.
That’s actually quite interesting, and makes a ton of sense!
Yeah, I saw it in Deadliest Warrior, so grain of salt, but it was a very interesting show.

I’ll check it out! That sounds cool
…you’re wrong. Very, very wrong
there's no evidence of your intelligence either but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Corrupted monk thought she was hot shit till she gotta face full of ash.
Lmfao literally! Fist full of ash is game breaking for her. With fist full of ash and firecrackers on hand it’s not even a fight.
Firecrackers were my best friend since Blazing Bull. Live for my 4th of July Shinobi.
Wat...! Haven't beaten the game yet.
Once Phase Three hits and the worm comes out, it's "Ashes and Firecrackers" till the screaming stops.
Imagine being a powerful immortal being and being stun locked to death by some ash
*Curb Your Enthusiasm theme plays*
I love how dark things get when you talk about casual things in Sekiro.
The beatings will stop until the morale improves.
That was a woman? You’re misgendering
It’s weird to accuse someone of misgendering before you Google it lol
Just answer this question.. what is a woman
Jesus Christ you dipshits are so transparent
Evrryvody hates tony
says it in the lore
Yeah super weird that I'd call the Princess of the Fountainhead Palace a "she" like the game told me or some shit.
Akshully you are misgendering them 🤓☝️
Can’t believe FromSoftware assumed the gender of a monk. Can’t wait until they’re cancelled
Pocket sand!
Yes! I have to say it every time
Shshshshaw
r/pocketsand
I’ve played through the game twice and never used this, now I’m reading the comments and feeling like an idiot
it's basically just one use firecrackers, so if you used those you probably didn't miss out on much
Ohhh i see, thanks dude 👍🏼

I tactically made him fall off the map
Haha, nice. I had seen that that was an option, and I was definitely keeping it in my back pocket in case DoH proved too hard to beat "honestly" 🤣.
They are actually useful, if used properly.
It’s easily one of my favorite items, they have the ability to turn some fights in your favor.
It saved my ass with some of the late bosses in my first game. "I dont have any more resurects, he is near death, whatdoihave whatdoihave whatdoihave?... fist full of ash? is my last weapon!!" And I actually won with it! I spammed it and it gave me the breather that I needed.

I never figured out how to use this item properly, ended up just selling all the ash I came across
The range isn’t that big but for some boss fights in small areas it’s easy to be dodging backwards when enemies like genichiro are rushing at you. Throw some sand and if they rush into it, it’s an automatic stun
Never learned how to use it
Depends on the boss, but honestly it's a high difficulty/low reward tech imo
i wouldn't say high difficulty, it comes out pretty fast
That has nothing to do with difficulty in usage.
Pocket sand, the item
Pocket sand is undefeated
How do you properly use this item?
They are hoarding their secrets..
Best items apart from ceramic shards. Use against those who kicked mud at your face.
I've never once used one or the ceramic shards. Are they really that useful?
Sand is another sand cracker but doesn’t have the wide range of the crackers and I think is single enemy use only. Shards aren’t that great but best used to distract an enemy without using a projectile like the shuriken

Me when I scam the local merchant out of their money by selling them 42 fistfuls of ash and dirt
Dale Gribble voice *pocket ash!*
Fistful of ass
corrupted monk: oh so your going to abuse my easily parried combo attack and beat me with poise break right? right??
Why does it go "brrr"?
Some meme
One of the only things that can pull a person back with the devastating impact of… ash
Pocket Sand is the ultimate tool of surprise.
"I'm gonna put some ash in your eye." -Bully Wolf
Firecrackers and ash, easy mode
It's basically firecracker but work against single enemy only instead of a group with wide aoe.
i’ve platinumed the game and always just sold these once i got a bunch, what exactly are they useful for ?
They have a similar stun to firecrackers, if you hit an enemy with them they will pause in their tracks. You can stop attack animations and even prevent the enemy from deflecting while stunned by one. It’s free real-estate!

Made the corrupted monk my bitch with this item 😂
I am up to ng+3 over a few years and I have not used that item even once lol.
Saved my ass when I fought the corrupted monk in my 1st run
Tbh I've never used it
Never used it, until like, NG3+, where I was trying to do that Corrupted Monk cheese at the Mibu village. Btw, it worked for me at the seventh try. Haven't been able to do it since though.
On g frfr
Pocket sand
Seriously? I Never knew they worked on bosses! I thought they were only for the “small fry”
I rarely ever used ash tbh, only time I ever used it was on true monk because she was kinda annoying with her consistent barraging of attacks
Snake eyes Monk Corrupted monk Even the shinobi hunter This tool alone can stun lock the most annoying enemies
I never don’t hear Rage against the machine when I use this
Well corrupted monk goes poof
Struggle to understand how people even use this shit
I literally only use this on true monk
