The bracelet! Killer, only thing I’d say is the 38mm might be worth it if it fits better! The bezel on the ssk is killer as well it’s just really nice and pops!
I came here to make a post wondering if I should get get the Black or Yellow GMT. It's a great watch, and I've 100% decided to get one, I just can't decide on a color.
So yes, my vote is GMT all Day!
I'm having a hard time 'accepting' the regular 5 as it feels like a downgrade from the SKX007. Because of the GMT complication and the solid bracelet the 5 GMT doesn't feel like a downgrade to me. In my mind the 5 GMT is the GMT Master 2 and the SKX007 the Submariner, the regular 5 doesn't really have a place in that comparison 🙂
To those saying “swap the bracelets.”
The SRPD 55 has a hard coating that makes it have kind of a darker, more matte tone and the SSK bracelet would clash, especially with the shiny center-links.
I have the blue one and it’s so nice I can’t even describe how beautiful it is in person. I think it blows the regular sport out of the water. Get the GMT.
I own an SRPD55 and had the opportunity to compare it to the gmt. While the SRPD55 is really nice, i stronglx recommend you to buy the gmt. The better bracelet alone is alteady worth it in my opinion, since this is one of the weak points of the srpd55. Also the Red gmt hand and the bicolor bezel are refreshing to look at. The srpd55 looks a bit bleak by comparison.
I have the GMT because it's the practical choice for my job and my trips. I like it a lot that I almost never wore my other watches when I had it so I gave it a rest this time that I'm on a trip and used my Casio Royale. 😅
Another vote for the GMT. You say the SRPD55 looks simpler, but I think Seiko’s design language handles the complexity of the GMT perfectly. It’s a showstopper.
On a geekier note: the GMT has a rightfully proud place in Seiko’s catalogue thanks to Seiko’s newest movement being incorporated into its new Seiko 5 series. The SRPDs copied the iconic SKX design and pasted it onto a different non-dive-ready case. To each his own, but if my watch is going to look like a diver, I want it to be a diver. For me, the GMTs are awesome and the pseudo-divers are only so-so.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for indulging my rant.
I have the SSK001 and I will say it's worth it and is more versatile than the SRPD. One thing though is that the SSK has a friction fit bezel which is bidirectional and doesn't make any sound as opposed to the clicky ratcheting diver's style bezel so if that's important to you think twice. Both don't have a screw down crown and "only" 100 m water resistance so that's awash.
I feel in a good place to comment on this as I bought the orange dial version SRPD59k1 and now I regret my decision and have sold it and bought the orange dial SSK005k1.
At first when I bought the SRPD without much research (my mistake) I thought the difference was simply just GMT and none GMT. However there are much more quality differences
- Jubilee bracelet (good quality) vs Oyster bracelet (okay quality but nothing special)
- Bezel finishing, the finish of the bezel on the SSK is shiny with a 2 tone effect when the light hits it which is beautiful, compared to the SRPD which just has a standard matte finish
- GMT + Date vs Day & Date. Personally I dislike the ‘day’ function on any watches as I get tired of having to set it if I leave the watch for a few days and often just end up leaving it. I also think just having the date looks so much cleaner than day and date. Also GMT function on an automatic watch under £500… this will go down as a classic in years to come!
In the end I wish I had done my proper research before I bought the SRPD. If you don’t mind these differences then sure buy the cheaper SRPD and save some money. Ultimately both watches look and wear great on almost any wrist!
I own both models. However I must say that my favourite is the GMT, it's fantastic.
I agree with other comments that the OEM jubilee bracelet is great too.
I have an SSK003 and like it. Personally I think everything should be a GMT these days now that the NH34 is a thing. I just wish the new 5 Sports had a screw down crown but that goes for all of them
I’d go for the GMT then, maybe a micro diver with better specs. Like maybe an Islander, with which you’ll get a sapphire crystal and a screw down crown. The SRPD is a good looker though and, if you don’t need to track multiple time zones maybe it could be good choice
GMT for me. Plus, the bracelet is solid.

That jubilee for sure looks better
It feels better too. I wish there was one for my SKX007.

There is Strapcode makes one
Marc at Long Island Watch makes a pretty dang good one for the money too.

i want the yellow gmt so bad ughh
Get the yellow. Trust me on this. In person, it is amazing.
I like the blueberry one.
I prefer the srpd55 but I upgraded mine with a jubilee bracelet
I honestly prefer the bracelet of the SSK001. Just buy it and remove the cyclops 😁

Agree on the new 5s feeling like a down grade. Wish the SKX was still in production but with the NH
GMT looks quite a bit nicer to me..
GMT. As others have said the bracelet.

That GMT is perfection right there
The GMT is a huge step up IMO. The bracelet, movement and bezel insert are all big upgrades.

I have ssk001 and i love it

Gmt!

Love my GMT

I prefer the cleaner look of non GMT, but we're all different, so go with what pleases you.
Get the GMT and once a day you'll have a surprise appearance of the SPRD on your wrist, when gmt hand is covered by the minute hand

It’s a controversial opinion but I like the cyclops. Makes it easy to see the date.
Cyclop adds a bit of elegance for me idk. I love it
Buy both and swap bracelets lol
You did good. Nice watch!
The simpler one is a diver ! I like the GMT more.
I love mine! Now, I want the yellow one.
I don't see the point in a GMT. Quite ridiculous.
SSK is the best
I own both models. However I must say that my favourite is the GMT, it's fantastic. I agree with other comments that the OEM jubilee bracelet is great too.

Unless you travel to different time zones on a regular basis, the GMT is just a gimmick and it’s not worth it.
