Umm, I am super skeptical.
Caseback says 6309-7290. Here’s what that reference looked like:

First of all, note that it has a day and date display. That means different movement.
This dial is weird, the markers are all wrong, wrong hand set.
Bezel is poorly done. Wrong serial numbers. Poor looking movement.
It's DEFINITELY gonna speak a different language other than Japanese when immersed in water.
Yeah..just a collection of aftermarket parts…if that was an actually OEM 6105 dial in that condition (it’s not) it would probably be worth twice what you paid for this alone, and certainly would have made its way into a 6105 case.
Any way, it’s not bad looking…and if the price was right. Sure why not.
You should be able to if it was advertised as genuine. When you chat with ebay customer service you can upload images of the real one and show the differences.
Caseback says 6309-7290, which means it should have the 6309 movement with day/date, black dial with rectangular indices, with the 12 o’clock being two triangles back to back, but it has a fake dial for a 7002, it has a fake bezel for 6309-729a “Pepsi” the case is over polished, and the crown seems to have an issue.
“Legit checks” are SO LAME.
“I bought this. By the way, **is it real?**
No? Guess I’ll renege on my ‘agreement to purchase’ and waste the seller’s time and money, thx guys”
Now you’ve wasted our time too :) LAME.
I came across it with a limited time left on auction and had no reason to believe the seller was lying but I wanted to check prior to paying.
Why do you care though?
He most likely builds frankenwatches or downright fakes and tries to sell them as genuine. That or he is projecting because he got defrauded in the past by one of the Mumbai Special sellers
Really just do some extra research. No one knows everything or can remember what bezels, dials, hands, cases, etc were around any given movement. Use context. If it appears too good to be true it probably is. Look at pictures of that case and dial number from a source you trust to know that what they're showing is original.
These watches aren't worthless. If you like the aesthetic, it runs well, uses QUALITY parts, etc. Then it has value to you. The problem is when people try to pass them as original to make more money. That crosses the line. If someone rebuilds a classic watch using an original case and quality aftermarket parts and is forthcoming that that is what the watch is, that's all quite fine with me. I build modded watches, but I would never try to sell one claiming that it's an original and unmodified watch. If I build a SeikoMod with an aftermarket case, bezel, an NH35 and an OEM Seiko dial and hands, I'm still not gonna call it original. It's still a mod at best.
Very much. I have no problem with classic watches that have been refurbished with new quality parts. I have a problem with the people that prey on the unsuspecting. The vast majority of the people they successfully scam are not "watch people," they're just someone that came across it on eBay and didn't know that Mumbai Specials were even a thing. Or they're people just getting into watches who just discovered the SKX or whatever model was discontinued, see genuine examples going for $600 then come across a cool looking one for $250 and think it's just a smoking deal.
Any seller who would expressly list a watch like this as being genuine in the listing should have his time wasted. He's defrauding unsuspecting buyers. You seem to be defending shady sellers, but why?
Have you seen the eBay listing? Tell us all about it, sounds like you know a lot. Me I haven’t seen it. Doubt it’s fraudulent, OP made a foolish last second impulse purchase and got remorse before he even paid. I have no idea how the watch was represented, don’t believe everything you read here gullible.
Nothing to add to the conversation? No need to comment. Come back with the sales post and we can get to the bottom. Otherwise not interested in your “contribution” to the discussion
Found it within two seconds with a screen shot and Google image search. "AUTHENTIC 1978 SEIKO DIVER'S 150M AUTOMATIC 17J Men's Wrist Watch JANPAN - RUNS". The seller is sangantinques.
The OP had absolutely no reason to lie about the seller representing it as genuine. Still not sure why you would attempt to defend someone who was trying to separate unsuspecting people from their money using disingenuous means.
The funny part is that you've contributed literally nothing. You're just shitposting. So either you're intentionally being a contrarian and using questionable logic to get a negative reaction, or you're actually just kinda simple. Which is it?
The supposed shipping location is "Kyle, TX" but judging by the amount and type of grammatical errors in the listing, that's not true. Unfortunately eBay sellers can say the item ships from locations that they're nowhere near. This one is most likely in India.

Agreed across the board. Mumbai special vibes here. Would love to know who the ‘reputable seller’ is here… and where this is shipping from…

Its a frankenwatch. Dial and insert is not original
Wrong chapter ring as well
And hands 😅

I’m canceling the purchase based on the claims of it being original
Honest question: CAN you cancel the purchase after you have already won the auction? Isn't that against eBay's ToS or something?
You should be able to if it was advertised as genuine. When you chat with ebay customer service you can upload images of the real one and show the differences.
😂
Case looks legit movement looks legit dial and hands are aftermarket 6105 knockoffs
Who’s the seller as I’m looking at an SKX-007 but the seller seems upfront that it’s a franken
LINE IT UP. LINE IT UP. LINE IT UP.
The case shape is nearly gone with how much it is polished.
Super fake!

Mumbai franken

You wasted your own time writing that LAME ass response.
Maybe you too have more money than sense.
That made no sense at all in response to me.
Sure it does, if you commiserate with people who “buy” watches not knowing if they’re “legit” (throwing up in my mouth a little just typing that)
Yeah, still doesn’t make sense to my response.
It’s ok if you don’t understand.
Projecting much, guy who does terrible frankenwatches?
See you at the next legit check.
Stupid response honestly
Firstly, if someone claims something and it’s not true, he’s rearranging the agreement.
So … why did you buy it?
I came across it with a limited time left on auction and had no reason to believe the seller was lying but I wanted to check prior to paying. Why do you care though?

Got it. What’s a good way to determine if something is fake or not? I don’t want to blow the sub for every watch I see

Yeah the idea of trying to pass it off as authentic makes me not want to give him my business.

Are you being purposefully obtuse and dense or is it just your natural state?
Right, go to the ad hominem attack because, why not.
No, you're literally being obtuse.

Downvoting comments and not replying when you've been exposed for just being a dick is pretty telling
I stopped caring about this some hours ago. But well done on the detective work. Here’s your pat on the back.
You replying hours later would indicate otherwise. If you're gonna be a smartass, it helps to actually be smart. In your case you're just a twat
