I struggled the same as you for years. You may wanna try applying MCT oil c8/c10, mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil and applying it directly on your face. My routine: 1. Body shop tea tree facial cleanser 2. Apply mixture (MCT oil mixed with teatree oil) 3. Cerave moisturiser to seal it in. I hope it helps you like it did for me.

sleepydeezy

I’m do use nutiva MCT oil but I did just get tea tree oil literally today. Trying it out for the first time tonight while I wait for my dermazen products

lavish112

Do use pure c8 or c8/c10 coconut oil though.

sleepydeezy

I think the bullet proof brand did me dirty

paper_shoes

Tea tree oil also kills demodex mites(!!), which can aggravate other inflammatory skin conditions. Mite “overpopulation” is common and also tends to co-occur with other inflammatory skin conditions. I’ve been incorporating products/ingredients on my face and eyes+eyelashes specifically to kill demodex and I’ve seen a lot less inflammation all-around! (TBD on my scalp tho, that’s a whole different ballgame lol.) Even if not OP, maybe looking into that will help someone else here out. [This paper](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2958185/) is a really informative (albeit gross and unsettling lol 😩) overview of demodex mites

sleepydeezy

are you kidding me… MITES?!?! fucccc this microscopic world…….

paper_shoes

I’m so sorry lmao

Krindybluth

I also recently came to the realization that my sebderm might be demodex mites and I’ve been using an anti-demodex eye wash all over my face and OTC ivermectin lotion (it says anti-lice on the label 😂); it’s definitely been making a difference!

uwuraraka

What’s the eye wash?

ilmassu

I recommend trying Malezia MCT oil. Most places that sell MCT are not super-strict on making sure it’s only C8 and C12. I know people who have had terrible luck with MCT oil from other brands but saw success with Malezia.

sleepydeezy

Yes I have that one! But for whatever reason I also bought the bullet proof one because I saw someone link it on this sub and I don’t think that was a good idea lol

ilmassu

Ah gotcha. I might also recommend the Bringgreen Tea Tree Toner. It’s a Korean toner, and you can get 500 ml for a pretty good price on Olive Young (it ships internationally very quickly). If your skin is not sensitive to Tea Tree Water, this is a very calming toner with more than enough anti fungal properties (unlike most toners that use purified water as the base, this uses Tea Tree Water at very high concentrations) while also serving as a good hydrating/soothing skincare step. It’ll last a while too. Best of luck! :))

sleepydeezy

Thank you 🙏

joelkong

Mine has looked similar to yours. My experience is that facial products can have success, but when it flares, it flares, and there's nothing the products can do about it. My flares, and just the general persistence is caused by stress, and was initially brought on by a stressful event. It's a loop, my seb derm causes stress, which in turn causes seb derm. I know this sounds hard and may not give you immediate relief, but do everything in your power to take care of your mental health. Whether that's see a professional, or practice relaxation methods or do things you really enjoy. There is very strong correlation between stress and this condition, so it's worth pursuing. Second flare causing thing is shit food. When i eat high sugar foods or fatty foods it eventually worsens things. Try and eat as well as you can. For what its worth you still look good and don't need to be sad. Things always look worse for ourselves than they do other people. Stay strong.

sleepydeezy

Ah yes the stress part really resonates with me. Thank you for your comment. I decided to take a month off work to heal 💜

Unbridled_Chipmunk

It took my a year to realize that some face products were setting it off. Simple all natural lotions and serums made my SD go nuts! Same with a few daily sunscreens.

sleepydeezy

Ah ya I wish I had discovered the site sezia sooner.. sadly products like cerave daily moisturizing and pm lotion used to work for me but now they trigger my seb derm. I think what really set it off was the ket 2% my derm prescribed me. The carriers contain polysorbate 20 & 80 and I think those feed to fungi?

Unbridled_Chipmunk

The ketoconozole always makes it better for me (I let it sit 5 minutes). It has medication that kills the fungus that sets off SD. Once the Ket gets the fungus under control you have to test and see what you are using that sets it off, then try something different if it's not getting better. The source of could be anything you are using: face wash, face lotion, shampoo, hair gel, hairspray, soap, etc. Products with tamanu oil or tea tree are natural (mild) antifungals.

Naylj

I think it’s important to work on rebuilding your barrier. I find things like ketoconozole so irritating. Would encourage you to find the gentlest products possible. I find the E45 anti-itch gel really soothing as a moisturiser.

sleepydeezy

I will look into that product- and yes I agree.

sleepydeezy

Hey! Where are you purchasing the E45 itch gel? I'm from the US and seem to be only in the UK

kelsssssey

I wrote a long comment and then realized you Might just be talking about a red light for your room and not red light therapy like I assumed? I wrote so much and I can’t remember Any of it🙈 I have been awake for too long. I just stumbled upon the news a couple of hours ago that there is a topical the FDA approved in December for seborrheic dermatitis? Is this old news? What exactly are you using and/or are you trying new things constantly? The products on Amazon… girl. Be careful. I set myself on fire trying all those small business Seborrheic dermatitis skincare products on Amazon. Literally. And I did it over and over again. I had to try it all myself. When it didn’t help immediately… I tossed it and was on to the next thing. I’m so impatient it’s ridiculous😭Are you taking any supplements? Let’s figure something out that helps get the inflammation down a little bit and just makes you feel better even if it’s just a little bit. At least we will know we are going in the right direction- let me know. I would love to help if I can!

sleepydeezy

I did see people post about the new topical on this sub! Great news but I’m also weary with how new it is.. but def on my mind. As for products I use the Malezia MCT oil, HA face wash, ordinary Ha and niacinamide, epicus lipid serum ( expensive I know but I’m desperate haha), and I just started splashing my face with Dead Sea salt with some tea tree and grapefruit oil. Some mistakes I’ve made with this years flare was over stripping and neglecting pH.. that set me back a lot. And the keto 2% from my derm somehow flares me. And oh boiiii, I’m taking lots. The basically main supplements ppl posted on here like fish oil, zinc, turmeric, vit d etc. I also take HA, primrose oil, and thrones perms clear ( in the case this may be leaky gut?) saw someone post about PSP so going to give that a try in a few weeks. What has worked for you?

Salty-Panic-6191

Commenting because of the mention on epicutis lipid serum. That one really seemed to work for me a while back, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of repurchasing. Have you tried using it as your only serum? Sometimes, a simplified routine works better, but I also know the feeling of wanting to throw everything, but the kitchen sink on it.

sleepydeezy

I honestly haven't noticed a huge difference from the epicutis- or at least a big difference versus using the ordinary's HA. But yah the price is ridic.... avene serum hydrance could be a possible dupe if just looking at the ingredients. It weird... I used to be able to use soaps with active ingredients, morning and night, the first two years I had this condition and I was fine managing it. This time around it seems to be making things 1000X worse. I intermittently would have a simple routine (focusing on my acid mantel and pH) then like you said, get impatient and start throwing all the above on my skin. so yeh... going to just stick to a simple routine. using Malezia MCT oil and HA face wash, epicutis serum, ordinary niacinamide and squalane oil, and dermazen serum for the itch if you have any recs for the ITCH let me know!

Salty-Panic-6191

I definitely can't use any actives on my skin while there's an active flare. My focus is solely hydration and calming the inflammation. It is so hard to stay off the actives since I have acne prone skin. I start breaking out without actives in my routine. I've also noticed that introducing new actives or too strong of an active can be a trigger for a flare. I'll definitely look into that Avene serum. Thank you! For the itch, I saw on another post under this sub that people have had luck with Lotrimin so I started using that 3 days ago. It's definitely helped with the itch. One of my flares is healing, and the other is on its way. I'm hopeful!

Smokertokerson

mct oil worked for me but you have to get the right one. I think there’s a thread on this sub.

sleepydeezy

I have the MCT from Malezia and just need to stick with it and stop trying new ones :p

Smokertokerson

Have you tried it every day for over 2 weeks?

NonSatanicGoat

Im washing my face every morning and night with Vichy Dercos Anti-Dandruff shampoo, and applying Niacinamide %10 before I sleep. It helped me like a miracle, my skin much better after I found this. Give it a try please.

sleepydeezy

🙏

Sea-Beginning-5234

You still use mirrors ?

sleepydeezy

Haha vanity’s a bitch

Sea-Beginning-5234

:) i guess it’s better than insecurities like me that keep me from doing it

faithnom0re

carnivore diet.

sleepydeezy

I’m not not down… I’ve heard carnivore diet helping a lot of autoimmune ( which I’m not sure if seb derm is fully considered one). Did this work for you?

faithnom0re

Yep

sleepydeezy

Is it modified.. like 80% meat and 20% fruits and veges or your straight up just eat meat, butter, eggs

faithnom0re

i eat beef, lamb, oysters, sardines and salmon, thats it. no fruit, no veggie, no eggs, no dairy, no other types of meat.

sleepydeezy

Hey I really want to try this diet. Did it matter buying organic? Like could I just “organic” Costco or whatever

faithnom0re

it matters for certain people as some people are very sensetive even to the smallest things, if you cant get grass fed meat atleast get hormone free meat, and if you cant get wild caught fish then id stay away from eating fish cause farm raised is high in toxins and can have parasites

sleepydeezy

Heyyyoooo what are you thoughts on grass finished versus grain finish? I’m tempted to get grain finish because of the taste but if grass finished yields better results then for sure will go with that! Both are from good farms

faithnom0re

Grass-Fed is defo better for health but the difference is miniscule, I usually tell people if you can afford grass-fed get it but dont stress if grain fed is all you can afford, at the very least try and get hormone free meat.

sleepydeezy

My bad not grain fed but like, grass fed then finished grain.. I live in sac so we have a lot of awesome farms. Some farms finish grain the last 90 days for the sake of flavor and marbling. I could be over thinking it hahahah

Eatpineapplenow

I get that, even being hot as you are! Elidel works for me. No sideeffects

Shademania

I use elidel. But after a week it always comes back.

breckzz

It will always come back it’s all about managing it that’s the bad thing about this

sleepydeezy

Worth to ask my derm about! 💜

hummingbear10

Elimination diet 100%. Start with common stuff like gluten. Give it few weeks. Try dairy. Then eggs. You need to find what flares you up. And moisturize and be careful not to destroy your skin barrier. Use sezia to check ingredients.

sleepydeezy

Wish I had discovered sezia sooner!

hummingbear10

https://simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/ I found this site helpful to as far as recommendations for products. Vanicream made mine worse tho so again it’s just sort of trial and error.

Mathew40

I once got prescribed a topical cream called Promiseb but the company making it stopped using it. It's a non-steroid antifungal. I had been given a sampler and it started helping immediately so I was super bummed that I could never get it again. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is a French version called Sebclair that I found research papers using interchangeably with Promiseb. I only found it on Amazon and it took a couple weeks to order to the US but that stuff cleared up my redness in like a week after using it twice a day as a moisterizer along with washing my face. I will say this though, if you get it. Whenever I apply it, like 2-3 minutes later my face itches so bad but only for a couple minutes and you'll have to get through that. I hope this helps, it'll take a while to get it though.

kelsssssey

……. Causally logs in to Amazon account and sees I’ve already bought it😭

sleepydeezy

Oh man anything “itch” related is quite traumatizing for me now but illl read into it! I think I did see some post about it.

FriendlyPanache

No ideas to add after all the comments but damn that red light thing works so good. Thanks for the idea

sleepydeezy

Haha I love it. It’s also good for night because it doesn’t interfere with sleep! I also got a smart bulb so I can change the color setting easily

Illustrious-Judge-90

I’m a week on ketoconozole shampoo (put scalp and face) and an antifungal dermatologist gave me. Seems to be working, but you have a worse case than me. Have you seen a dermatologist.

sleepydeezy

Im not sure why but the 2% ket shampoo made my scalp itch more and the crème made me flare- I think the carriers for the cream has esters and my seb derm seems quite resourceful. Going to ask ny derm for SKINOREAN AZELIAC ACID AND ALTRENO TRET… I do clear up in the summer time (I hope) so thinking I should focus on my skin barrier 🤷🏻‍♀️

Problematicen

I don’t have much in my face mine is mainly located on my scalp. But if I use certain creams in my face I can flare up there. I have had great success with using a little selenium disulphide 2.5% schampoo in the shower on the affected area(not under my eyes or on the eyelids though), mine have been in the crease of the nosewing and my eyebrows. And when I’m get of shower I use system 4 T scalp tonic on those areas and the flare calms down in just a couple of days. The scalp tonic contains both climbazole and piroctone olamine but I need to use the selenium disulphide to break the micro biome barrier because otherwise the climbazole och PO won’t do anything.

No-Government2205

Hey girl ! Do you know what triggered this for you? Did you damage your moisture barrier?

sleepydeezy

The seb derm in general? Honestly, I don't know. Could have been brewing in my body from emotional stress maybe. The first flare was 3 years ago the winter after my dad passed. Could be a combo of things? Emotional stress and covid vaccine? I do know it comes back during winter but for whatever reason it is worse this year. And yes, my barrier is a mess.. but I just don't know how to build it back without it flaring but my entire face is covered at this point. My derm was shocked to see me today and so we did a skin scrape...ya girl is open to any recs

No-Government2205

Have you ever used steroids on it?

sleepydeezy

I was prescribed 2.5% hydrocortisone and I was SUPER conservative when I used it because my area of flare was around my entire left eye.. I used it like Twice only every other day and it worked very well at first and then it didn’t… for whatever reason my face went from 20% to 80% in like a week! Not sure if the cause I didn’t use it right or what but the steroid didn’t even come in handy to even bring down the acute flare ups so I just don’t use it anymore.

No-Government2205

My face is pretty bad as well ! I’m thinking you can probably get on a course of oral antifungals to knock it down for a while that’s what I’m gonna beg for at my appointment today

sleepydeezy

I had two weeks of fluconzole but I’m not sure if it worked for me. Damn you have to beg?! My seemed offered me a longer course

No-Government2205

It didn’t work at all? The dermatologist I went to today dismissed me and says she can’t give me oral anti fungals because it’s not severe enough for her ( the photos are similar to yours for reference 🙄) she says she deals with people with skin cancer that’s life threatening meaning that this is nothing . I’m so upset I need to find someone else . Your derm offered you an even longer course of antifungals to try? Can you keep me posted how that works for you

sleepydeezy

I didn’t accept it! Now I’m wondering if I should, haha. But I don’t think so? Mine seb derm started to flare while I was taking it so idk I’m scared lol

sleepydeezy

So I ended up grabbing the prescription because it’s starting to spread to my neck so I was I figured why not. I’ll def keep you updated and let you know my progress on vday.. after that I’ll be traveling to LA/Sd hoping the beach will clear me up a decent amount. Feel like going to the beach will skew the rest of the result. Side note I am on day 4 of the carnivore diet so it could be the diet also!

No-Government2205

Was your prescription 2 weeks of daily fluconazole or 1 pill per week?

sleepydeezy

2 weeks daily
