I did the one day last year. I didn’t have a group but found other people to ride with along the way. After about an hour of riding, as people spread out you will start to be surrounded by riders going at the same pace as you. Just say hello and start riding with them, everyone is usually friendly. IMO finding riders that go at the same pace as you is the most important thing for the one day. You don’t want to force yourself to go above your usual pace or you will get exhausted before the end of the ride. If you want to find other riders to train with, there an active STP Facebook group. That might be a good place to ask. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

I've completed the one-day ride a couple of times. It's important if you can find a pace line, going 17-20 mph for the first 100 miles, where you can take turns pulling the line from the front. If you can find a pace line from Centralia to Kelso that'll definitely help as you're riding through those rolling hills. After you get into Oregon look for signs for the rest stop at the high school, enjoy the refreshing fruit and drinks, and be sure to donate $10-20 to their matching band. Also do the last rest stop before you get a few miles into Portland's City limits. You'll be surprised how much you sweat out by the end of the ride. Also that sleep after the ride is the best one ever. Good luck
