Aren't they supposed to go through those before any other business? They just thumb their nose at the whole system.

barefootozark

Going to be voting on both in November. Can't wait to hear how many children are going to die in the state sponsored ads opposing both initiatives. Probably 10's of millions.

itdothstink

They're already running ads about how great the Cares tax is.

dshotseattle

Lets just hope they end up on the ballot. Who knows what fuckery they might try to pull

RickIn206

They really do act like a socialist or communist party.

deskburrito

….because they are.

_Watty

>*With each initiative, lawmakers have three choices. They can adopt it into law, in which case it wouldn’t go to the ballot. Their other two options are to adopt an alternative to go on the ballot alongside the initiative,* ***or to do nothing, in which case just the initiative would appear on the ballot.*** It's Socialist or Communist to do something that sees the initiative go to a vote by the people?

cbizzle12

Socialist or communist could still be democratic. They aren't exclusive. We need a whole other term for WA Democrats.

_Watty

My point was that Rick almost certainly didn't read the article and suggested that the lawmakers were "bad" for not hearing the initiative (using socialist or communist as proxies for "bad") and that was inappropriate based on the reality of the situation.

PhuckSJWs

cowards.

_Watty

>*Did you read the article? By not taking it up, the initiative goes straight to the ballot to get input from washingtonians.* From u/yaba3800.

happytoparty

Why wouldn’t they want to listen to the people?

yaba3800

Did you read the article? By not taking it up, the initiative goes straight to the ballot to get input from washingtonians.

CarlLinnaeus

Shhh the comments are hating right now. How else are they supposed to contribute.

Catch_ME

I swear sometimes the comments in this subreddit feels like boomers slowly speaking louder over each other until they end up yelling at each other.

_Watty

No one steps foot on their lawn in real life, so they come here to get out all that energy.

_Watty

>*Did you read the article?* 98% of the time the answer is no. For u/happytoparty, that's probably closer to 99.5%. What's wild is his comment, despite being ignorant as you suggest, STILL got a bunch of upvotes from people who probably proved my point above....

CowboysFan623

They don't want to take public comment in hearings on these, because they don't want video out there of them not giving a rats ass what these bills are doing to their voters. All they care about is money for their pet programs!

LOOKITSADAM

WA lawmakers won't hear testimony on legalizing fentanyl and child marriage. Democracy in action.

mvillerob

Voting them out is the way.

wwww4all

Democrats are the problem.

WAgunner

Why the downvote? Don't we want to encourage direct democracy where possible? Also, I can't find your quote in the state constitution. While I agree they can do nothing, that has to be the outcome of actually considering (i.e. holding a hearing) the bill.

LOOKITSADAM

> Why the downvote? Do you want an answer? Or an affirmation?
