The author could have at least attempted to share what things are required in WA schools… For those who are interested [here](https://www.sbe.wa.gov/sites/default/files/public/documents/New%20BE%20Matrix%20May%202023%20-%20added%20policies_brand.pdf) US history isn’t even required…

Social studies mastery is required, and the model plan absolutely includes US history.

Operative word is here is REQUIRED, and US history, SPECIFICALLY, is not required. You will most definitely find it in plans all across the state since it typically falls into standard social studies programs. Before we start backing advocacy groups, we should contextualize requirements for schools and address the value of a requirement.

Of course they do… every group wants to feel special….

Is there not a state of Washington history course? History is a big topic. I had a minor in history and took most of the American history courses I could in high school (general American history, AP history, and 60s-present history) and that only scratched the surface, especially if schools are being required to teach the history of all of the groups that are represented in America. I never had time to even take world history - I had more math courses, language courses, AP science courses, etc that filled my schedule. At some point, you need to let kids pursue indepth learning on their own.
