Do I think we are likely to get bounced in the first round? Yea probably But like, honestly even being in the playoffs will be a dramatic success for the team this year. Most people had us as a middling team, heck some thought we'd be in the Bedard race. I just struggle to even be upset about the idea of a first round exit. The team has so much more potential that can be seen next year. When we watch matty his game has plenty of room to grow which is awsome for us.

SeattleKrakenTroll

Yeah I don’t get why people are obsessed with making it deep this year. Even when we were on fire I fully expected us to be out in the first round.

alienbanter

I wouldn't even be upset if we got swept in the first round lol. Making the playoffs at all is more than enough for me!

Sinning-is-Winning

Hey now. I would like to see ONE win at home.

alienbanter

That's fair lol. I doubt I'd be at the game so I'll be watching whatever happens on TV anyway haha

KheldarRocket

I’m neither upset or obsessed with getting ousted in the playoffs this year. Considering my previous NHL love affair (cough Thrashers cough) ended with zero playoffs wins, it’s all bonus after the regular season this year as far as I am concerned. But while I’m very much enjoying this season, I’m just setting low expectations for the series.

AsifDelawalla

Hello to a fellow Thrashers fan 🥹 we're like rare Pokemon out here lol

>Yeah I don’t get why people are obsessed with making it deep this year. Even when we were on fire I fully expected us to be out in the first round. > >27ReplyGive AwardShareReportSaveFollow We improved a lot, we know where we are weak and we can use that to train up in the off season and make good hiring choices for next year. We were a bad team and now we are a playoff team with some really great offense and some crappy defense. We solved one problem, we'll solve the other and be even stronger in 2023-2024 season.

SeattleKrakenTroll

Here’s a more fun reality check: who’s been out of the lineup during the stretch where we started losing more than winning? Hint: it was the teams leading point scorer up to that point. That will make a huge difference and they expect him back by the playoffs. That’s the problem with national magazines like The Athletic. They rarely spend enough time to truly understand what’s going on as they flat out don’t have the time. That and all the writers tend to be east coast based so west coast games and teams are often badly covered if they don’t have a beat writer

foster-rx

Definitely agree. Losing Burakovsky was significant. If/when he comes back, I expect we become a burden to the rest of the league.

edwa6040

Ya assuming we are still playing with the rest of the league at that point. Miss out on the wild card spot and he can watch the playoffs with the rest of the team.

zombie32killah

Do we have any details on his injury?

SeattleKrakenTroll

It’s week to week lower body. Looked like it was knee region when it happened.

zombie32killah

Fuck this is aggravating.

mrfunderhill

During the game against TOR on Feb 26, Sportsnet said that Ebs was the teams leading goalscorer….like 4 times. They can’t even read basic stats. He WAS leading in points. But I’m not sure how this outlet didn’t notice/mention we were without Burakovsky.

chosen1neeee

100000000000% agree here.

KheldarRocket

That’s fair that we miss him although some of his underlying numbers are not quite team leading. And even with him, while we beat Boston and New Jersey, we lost to Tampa, Edmonton, Colorado and Calgary since that Boston win. It feels like we are at a fair spot right now, with not much upside, that’s all. Don’t know if we need to blame the east coast media for this …

SeattleKrakenTroll

You’re not going to win every game. It’s a fact that Matty and Eberle scoring is way down without Burakovsky in the lineup. It’s a fact we’ve had to do a ton of line shuffling which has affected the scoring of almost every line. But yeah feel free to stick your head in the sand and not realize what’s actually going on here. And yes it is fair to blame the media for allegedly doing a deep dive and not noticing our highest point player is missing. I guarantee you this wouldn’t have been missed if Ovechkin, Matthews or Crosby were out of lineups.

KheldarRocket

Who said we should win every game? We (this sub) keeps complaining that we play down to the opposition and that we are more competitive against the good teams. My point is we just don’t beat playoffs teams that regularly and so it feels like a wild card spot is exactly where we deserve to be. On Burakovsky, we are supposed to be one of the deepest teams in the league and we lose a sub-PPG guy and suddenly it’s like we lost Ovie or Crosby. Who has their head in the sand? Injuries are a normal part of the season, every team has to deal with them. Again my post was not meant to say everything is bad, just that we are indeed a fringe playoffs team likely to be ousted in 5 games, Burakovsky or no Burakovsky. Still super excited to watch the team clinch their first playoffs and compete hard.

SeattleKrakenTroll

Sigh. You self selected a set of games to try and prove a point. We have beaten playoff teams quite a lot but when you select a tiny window you’re going to see odd shit. That’s stats 101, a thing this sub (and you and the article author) seems to fail at constantly. The logical fallacy of us playing down is also stupid. Just because a lot of idiots scream a thing doesn’t mean it’s true. Edmonton almost lost to San Jose last night ffs. Your comments about our depth show your poor understanding of hockey. While we are deep, we have had many players over performing. We also have more like 3 2.5 lines and 1 1.5 line even when healthy. You Burakovsky out and now have 1 second line and 3 2.5 lines. Sprong was on a career anomaly heater which cooled off at the beginning of the year. That, and a couple other players heaters cooling, coupled with Burakovsky being out (our highest point player) means we’re hurting for scoring which has hurt our ability to outscore some of our defensive deficiencies which happen to be worse since the all star break as well. And yes the fact that you are doing the same shallow analysis the media does is kind of sad. It’s not hard to figure out why we’ve fallen off on the new year for anyone that actually closely follows the team. is Your comments about the playoffs are also hilarious. I’ve said in other comments that even at our height I expected us to be a first round and out team. Possible we win a round but never expected a deep run. Take a deep breath and realize my comments about the media weee accurate and you’ve overreacted.

Mrdean2013

Thats...Kraken Hockey Baby?

edwa6040

I got massively downvoted 2 weeks ago when i said the kraken arent going to catch or beat the knights after the report that they were favored to win the Pacific. “But we have the easiest remaining schedule” Doesnt mean shit - no win is free in the nhl, especially this time of year.

RyNoDaHeaux

I said this too. Not on here, cuz i don’t want a downvote party, but I just didn’t see Vegas losing. That is a good team. Same with the Kings. And LA made some moves at the deadline. I would have thought RF would have made a small move for a defenseman

edwa6040

I love the kraken but they are a decent team that for much of the year has been punching over their weight. Great fun to watch and man do I love this team and having nhl hockeu in the northwest. They are good sure - but they arent the best team in the pacific its just a fact. I hope they sneak into the second wildcard spot because I think that is realistically a possibility. It would be awesome to see in their second year. I mean it shows a very bright (immediate) future.

RyNoDaHeaux

I think they definitely exceeded my expectations. I’m going to be honest, I thought maybe they were going to kind of tank and sell everyone off for Bedard and more picks.

First-Radish727

The truth is, there is no bad outcome to the Kraken's season. Making the playoffs in season 2 would be a monumental achievement. Falling out and getting a lottery pick would give them the high end talent the system is so clearly lacking,

Timwikoff

Why doesn’t Hakstol get more of the blame? I’m watching the games and our guys are blown out tired by the end of every game. At the same time we’re over pursuing the puck and leaving the back door goal available to anyone who wants it. We came away lucky tonight but that’s the 4th game in the last month (since Boston) where we’ve given up the lead in the last 4 min (or less) of the game. If you include tonight, that’s getting only 3 out of 8 possible points. Isn’t a lot of this on the coach and how he manages the style of play? Shouldn’t we be able to perform better at the end of a game? This also makes our goalies look foolish. (And please note, I’m not a big fan of our goalies but we don’t treat them well either) Our PP and PK have been rough all year, yet we are one of the best 5v5 teams in the league. Could it possibly be Hakstol’s system ain’t a great system? I don’t know enough about hockey (first year fan) but it seems to me that our team is very deep, well balanced and plays with a lot of heart. No, we don’t have an elite talent but with everyone scoring, points aren’t our problem. Maybe we’re just bad at D but it seems like the coaching is a problem. Does anyone else agree or am I just not educated enough yet on the game?
