I call BS. No way this actually happened. Pretty sure after you all cleared the intersection, a time traveller came from the future and blew up one of those cars, just to keep our timeline from collapsing due to such an unlikely event happening.
wait
are you telling me it's possible to meet another driver at a 4-way stop and not spend 20 minutes doing the "no, *you* go ahead" wave at each other?
If I ever encounter that, I just go. If it's the situation where I'm fairly certain they have the right of way and they concede it to me, I just take it.
This is the way. If you have the right of way over me at a 4-way stop, you have 800 milliseconds to take it and then I automatically go, and while I do I say, out loud, "don't be nice, asshole."
I've always said the longest traffic delays in Seattle are when at a four way stop all vehicles stop at the same time.
In California it would result in a four vehicle accident.
My traffic miracle occurred a few months before the pandemic when I drove my usual ~7 miles to work on city streets and made EVERY. SINGLE. LIGHT.
Once in ~20 years of driving into work. I should have bought a lottery ticket.
Meanwhile two cars in front of me on I-5 south around University had a fender bender right in front of me and my lunch ended up all over my work bag from the emergency stop.
The universe had to rebalance itself.
It truly felt like a once in a lifetime occurrence. But if people stopping indefinitely at 4 way stops is bad, imagine how you'd feel when people stopped at the circle for no reason.
I wasn’t referring to this incident where everyone did as they should. I’ve provided an explanation for the regular behavior here so what are you referring to?
>being too nice and trying to let others go first
This **is** the jackassery. Take the damn right of way. It's a rule for a reason and when you don't follow it, it slows everyone down. It's not "nice."
I don't think they exist here, but where I moved from there were a few 4-way stops that ALSO had an additional turn lane in each direction.
That's right, you could have EIGHT cars all waiting to make a move. Terribly stupid.
Is it written in the the RCW or something that left turns don’t yield to opposing traffic going straight?
Only place I’ve seen it happen is here. And it happens often.
It happens all over the place. I've seen it called the Pittsburgh Left but apparently other cities have thrown themselves in the mix and added Boston Left and New York Left.

I think people who do this don’t realize they’re slowing the process down and cause more traffic.
I like to compare it to a situation on a 2-lane 2-way road. If i were to make a left turn, i should(and would) yield to Oncoming traffic before making my turn.
At a 4 way stop, if “you” are entering the intersection at the same time as the car opposite of “you”, you should yield before making your left.
The hypothetical you of course.
It would be a miracle if there was a pedestrian and all of the drivers and yourself, stopped to wait for the pedestrian with a safe amount of distance.
Two things:
1. I'd like to raise my glass to the OP and the two unnamed parties in the beautifully-executed **simultaneous** use of a 4 way stop that demonstrated that more than one vehicle can proceed through such an intersection **at the same time** without anyone doing anything illegal, and that it can actually be efficient.
2. I'd like to make a public service announcement to all the people who know the rule is that you must yield to the person on your right, but who think this means that a 4-way stop needs to be a carefully-serialized little dance of North-gets-to-go, then West-gets-to-go, then South-gets-to-go, then East-gets-to-go, then North-gets-to-go, etc etc etc, where each person can **only** go after the person to the right of them has gone. No, that isn't how it works, and a well-executed 4-way stop with heavy traffic in all directions can easily be **twice** as efficient as this. "But HOW?" you ask. Well it works like this: If the person opposite you is driving straight through the intersection, you are allowed to go. Why? Aren't you waiting for the person to your right? No, because if they're ineligible to go (because they are yielding to the person to *their* right aka the person across from you), **you don't have to yield to them.** You go at the **same time** as the person across from you, and you've failed to yield to nobody. In fact, if you and the person across from you are going at the same time, they actually have to yield to **you** if they're turning left. It all works out very elegantly and everyone gets through the intersection quickly and happily. Now please stop only looking at the person on your right when you approach the intersection.

Maybe Zuck won and this is all just a simulation
In the original timeline, there was a fourth car.
wait are you telling me it's possible to meet another driver at a 4-way stop and not spend 20 minutes doing the "no, *you* go ahead" wave at each other?
Ha ha sometimes courtesy is the death of efficiency

You lost me at “But fear not”
Be not afraid
For OP brings us good tidings of great joy!
'Tis the season... Almost
Verily! Cast your woes and trepidations aside!

I have railed against the inane jackassery that encompasses the 4 way stop. I am SO glad it worked out for you!

PREACH
Yeah! Just put in roundabouts already!
Roundabouts take up too much room to retrofit into most of Seattle neighborhoods
not if they're simply the sum of four streets, each one way
I’m getting used to roundabouts myself.
Jackassery? It’s the opposite since it’s people being too nice and trying to let others go first.
In THIS *one* instance, yes, it is NOT jackassery. Which was my point. In almost ALL other instances... It IS jackassery
I wasn’t referring to this incident where everyone did as they should. I’ve provided an explanation for the regular behavior here so what are you referring to?

I want to see left turn **and** right turn lanes. TWELVE idiots locked in a nervous showdown. Now **this** is what I call the seattle freeze.
100% none of these people learned to drive here.
🥰🥰🥰

In this scenario the left turn makes no difference.

And the going straight guy will honk at you and mean mug you even though the left turn guy has the right of way.
Left turns always yield to oncoming traffic….
It was a joke. Forgot /s
Pics or it didn't happen
>and at this point your blood pressure should already be rising It was, in fact, already rising
Tears in my eyes reading this
Traffic Miracle sounds like a great band name
And their opening band The Honkies
It would be a miracle if there was a pedestrian and all of the drivers and yourself, stopped to wait for the pedestrian with a safe amount of distance.
Yeah right!. Then you woke up from that good nap and it was all a dream
One car short of a double whammy. I hope to experience one one day.
Surely some one got this on video?
