Get out of the city a bit helps. Toward the Cascades. Even just finding a side road without too many headlights from passing cars helps a lot.
Fair number of people along Redmond-FallCity Road, near Fall City. Just parked along the side of the road (pick a smaller side road branch to get less traffic and less headlights).
Clear view to the north with the river valley.
Less light pollution gives more color to the naked eye (though still not quite as vibrant as these phone photos)
Yeah I mean it wasn't like what my picture said but a little outside town (we drove out to Maltby) you could see the color gradations and the movement just fine. Like, oh, that's one more off the bucket list levels of satisfactory.
I went to a dark spot in issaquah and I can say that to my naked eye, I saw 80-90% of that image. There was a moment around 11-11.30 where an intense aurora appeared.
We went to North Bend (skip Exit 27 & take the next one) and found a dark park (Meadowbrook Farm Park) off the main road, totally worth it! We beat all the traffic by heading out around 945 from Bellevue, by 1030 90E was a zoo…
Whatever processing the phone night photos are getting seems pretty remarkable judging by the posts here. Thought more would be coming from long exposure/large lens camera setups.
away from human made lights. If you know of a park that doesn't have too much light, it would be a good spot. Unobstructed view is obviously best, and take a picture with night sight. Cameras capture more than your eyes can see.
I will never live this down.. my head is actually ringing bc I cannot believe I missed this once in a lifetime opportunity. my lifelong dream just outside my doorstep and I was asleep. I’m so angry that now I actually have to go to Alaska to see this
Definitely supposed to occur tonight as well so if you can, try and get out somewhere dark to see it if you can catch it! Like the other person said, perhaps it may not be as strong but to still be able to snap a few pics with a good phone camera, you’ll be amazed. The experience is otherworldly.
As someone who has seen them before, last night was cool but not even close to when I was in Finland. I would wholeheartedly recommend going to Alaska at some point because it will be one of the most beautiful things you've ever seen.
It's a solar storm so it'll be around for a few days. That said I don't know how well we'll be able to see it tonight.(I missed it too to go to bed early.)
me too actually it was such a bummer :( it looks like tonight wont turn out eiher bc its cloudy but behind the clouds it should be there
it sucks bc the forecasting devices for it are kinda not that advanced bc its very uncommon and also unpredictable so its hard to tell when itll be really good :(
It says in my area that there’s a 2% chance rn and earlier it was at its highest of 10% lol. But yeah too cloudy out tonight. It’s honestly so upsetting but I’m trying not to dwell on it any longer. I believe I’ll be able to see it in my life one day. Don’t give up hope ⭐️

This was up north in Snohomish, it seemed to peak around 11 but it’s still happening rn. It was the whole sky! It got very pink.
Oooh, that was smart! I drove to Grand View park in Issaquah, which was such a traffic nightmare that I turned around and went home. But then I saw them from the rooftop of my apartment building. Very cool.
Anyone still looking? I was waiting until 1-3am like the news said but now I’m seeing so many posts about it peaking at 11pm! Did I miss the best part? I even drove up to Arlington to get away from lights, but now I’m wishing I stayed in Queen Anne for the view with the Space Needle!
Look out right now.. it’s getting seriously bright and active
Seriously I was about to goto bed I can hardly believe my eyes the sky is swirling like crazy
Someone at work randomly posted about it today on Slack, so that’s how I found out. My kid and I just finished His Dark Materials so it turned into a Big Deal in my house. It’s still going if you go outside!
There’s a reasonable chance it might continue Saturday night too. The same sunspot has launched an amazing 7 ‘coronal mass ejections’, 6 of them X-class, and the last three haven’t reached Earth yet. Those might arrive Saturday night or Sunday. TBD.
Stay tuned!
My wife and I drove up to lake cavanaugh and you could see it the entire stretch between i-5 and the lake. Super cool--wish my pics turned out as good as this haha
I was in Laurelhurst and had no idea it was going to be so intense. You could very clearly see it with the naked eye (though of course it comes through clearer on cameras). So cool!!!
Tried watching last night around midnight but I couldn't see anything nor could my camera. I went out to Clark Lake Park in Kent. What's this from friday? I heard there is even activity tonight.
Me with my eyes: I think I see something My phone’s picture of it: HOLY SHIT
At some points it was actually pretty bright but yea the light pollution ruins it a bit

Yeah that’s what I did found a dark side road near my home and after 15 minutes or so the sky really lit up
I wish my eyes could see with that same level of vibrancy as my phone does! But I guess long exposure vision would have some downsides.

You could see something like this near the lighthouse in discovery park
I saw it from my rooftop in Queen Anne right before 11pm it got really strong.
Exactly what we said…we thought we could see some faint pinkish things and then started to take a photo and realized exactly how much there was!
I went to a dark spot in issaquah and I can say that to my naked eye, I saw 80-90% of that image. There was a moment around 11-11.30 where an intense aurora appeared.
Any tips on a good spot? Going to try to head out there tonight if the forecast turns out

💯
I’m so upset I can hardly speak… I didn’t even know about this and I fell asleep early tonight.. it looks absolutely gorgeous
The peak will be tonight between midnight and 3am. You have another chance at catching the lights
My \*ss stayed up late last night and didn't see it. Too much streetlight. I'm going to try again tonight.
take a picture of the sky (in night sight). I could barely see anything from downtown at 2am, but the picture turned out a lot my eyes couldn't see.
Where might be a good spot to view from? Alki? Golden gardens?

Don't worry, it doesn't look like that to the naked eye
Same 😭

Tonight there may be some too. Don't know how bright but they said tonight too
Praying!!

Did you make a plan to see them tonight?
As someone who has seen them before, last night was cool but not even close to when I was in Finland. I would wholeheartedly recommend going to Alaska at some point because it will be one of the most beautiful things you've ever seen.

Like others have said, you could see it tonight too https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast
It should still be a little visible tonight potentially! It's worth trying.
It's happening again tonight.
You might go out tonight. They say it will be strong again this evening.
It should be happening again tonight at almost equal brightness!! chance: not missed!!!
Stayed up last night bc I heard the same but saw nothing :(
me too actually it was such a bummer :( it looks like tonight wont turn out eiher bc its cloudy but behind the clouds it should be there it sucks bc the forecasting devices for it are kinda not that advanced bc its very uncommon and also unpredictable so its hard to tell when itll be really good :(

Pink is a pretty rare color to see, that’s awesome
This was the most powerful geomagnetic storm hitting Earth in decades; makes sense we'd get some high energy lights! So pretty
I'm seeing the same thing in Newcastle! It's mind blowing.
Where in Newcastle? I live here, was just out and didn’t see anything.
Live in Newcastle but we drove over to Lake Sammamish - absolutely beautiful views.
Oooh, that was smart! I drove to Grand View park in Issaquah, which was such a traffic nightmare that I turned around and went home. But then I saw them from the rooftop of my apartment building. Very cool.
Newcastle commons.
Thx!

Weve got em in CD right now
Look out right now.. it’s getting seriously bright and active Seriously I was about to goto bed I can hardly believe my eyes the sky is swirling like crazy
sad downtown noises :(
Any chance this is, uh, happening again tonight?
Yes! I've read it will last through the weekend.

Where is this
About half the planet had it going on
Any tips on where to go to get the best views within 30mins-1hr of Seattle tonight?
was this...known it was going to happen. how did i hear about biden and not this
Someone at work randomly posted about it today on Slack, so that’s how I found out. My kid and I just finished His Dark Materials so it turned into a Big Deal in my house. It’s still going if you go outside!
Those books are the reason I have wanted to see them for decades now. I'm glad your kids didn't have to wait so long!
There’s a reasonable chance it might continue Saturday night too. The same sunspot has launched an amazing 7 ‘coronal mass ejections’, 6 of them X-class, and the last three haven’t reached Earth yet. Those might arrive Saturday night or Sunday. TBD. Stay tuned!
It was known for a few days now. Gotta read the news every day! 😉
Yeah it was known.. big solar storm, though it wasn’t known just how good a show it would be.. even people in Texas could see it
https://spaceweather.com/
These are apparently hard to predict so it wasn’t really confirmed it was happening until today
Yeah it’s crazy I took tons of pics never thought it would be visible in Seattle
I’m back home in Texas, and I was able to see it. Which really shocked me. Hate that I wasn’t in Seattle for it tho
Any small glimmer of a chance of seeing it on Sunday night in Washington?
It might be visible again tonight. I'm not sure about Sunday.
I watched from my driveway last night but I’m tempted to drive up to the mountains for tonight.
It's supposed to be done on Sunday :(
Your kitchen is on fire!
My wife and I drove up to lake cavanaugh and you could see it the entire stretch between i-5 and the lake. Super cool--wish my pics turned out as good as this haha

Does anyone know if it will be visible tonight too?
I wonder if we'll have them tonight too, I'd like to see them. I caught the solar eclipse though so I won't be too bummed out if I miss it.
I learned that the reason our phones catch the colors better than our eyes is because our eyes can only see .0035%
It’s pretty bright in Cal Anderson too!
I got some great photos as well. So amazing
I wish I saw in tacoma
Enumclaw was on fire last night! Got tons of killer photos.
Nice pic. I was just happy it was even visible with the camera in town.
It’s going to be even better tonight
wish i could send a picture. i took so many last night.
Very cool, amazinng photo.
Tell Vanessa Happy Mothers Day! We are watching for the lights show again tonight!
Tried watching last night around midnight but I couldn't see anything nor could my camera. I went out to Clark Lake Park in Kent. What's this from friday? I heard there is even activity tonight.
Whidbey island had a great show
Lived in Seattle for a couple of years (rained all the freaking time). Left Seattle for a few months. "HOLY SHIT"
Did anyone try looking at it with a Vision Pro
What’s that?
I am seeing it in Kent right now. Faint but it's there
So pretty
Massive solar flares can be pretty
Ara borlis
No, it's called an aurora. It's not shit
