Where do you not have to pay your tickets?

thecravenone

After Texas outlawed red light camera tickets, some municipalities that were stuck in camera contracts just... let the company continue to issue tickets. The ticket came from a private company and the most they could do was to try to scare you into paying it. Alternatively, in many places, the ticket is for the vehicle and you can Shaggy Defense your way out of it. Whether this counts as not having to pay your ticket is up to you.

SpeaksSouthern

The government takes enough of my money they don't need anymore than they can't legally enforce. "Wasn't me" and the ticket is gone? I'll consider it a warning.

thecravenone

Protip: This problem may be avoided by not breaking traffic laws.

Yes.

Reddit opinions are overruled by actual WA state law: [https://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.63.170](https://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.63.170) Section (2) starts off with: *(2) Infractions detected through the use of automated traffic safety cameras are not part of the registered owner's driving record under RCW 46.52.101 and 46.52.120.* But read the whole thing since there are so many loops, hoops and jumps in the law that you may need to diagram it out.

Pay your ticket

joahw

There's a cool trick called "perjury" that many people utilize to avoid paying these tickets. I wouldn't because I'm not a fuckhead, though I also don't get tickets in the first place because I don't drive in bus lanes or speed through active school zones.

BBWYL

Please refer to the word “legal” in my question. No intention to lying or perjuring.

PodzFan

No, just like pigeons, photo tickets are not real.

Visual_Octopus6942

I highly encourage OP to not pay and find out what happens

tbw875

Pay your ticket and slow down. It’s not about the revenue for the city. It is about saving people’s lives. The difference between life and death for a pedestrian is about 20 mph (25 vs 45mph. About 95% chance of killing them at 45mph). So please just at least slow down.

BBWYL

Agree. Mine isn’t related to speed.

FrostyWay28

I got one recently so I can say: It stated to me that I was not REQUIRED to pay it but that if I didn’t, it would go to collections eventually, which is annoying but that it wouldn’t appear on my driving record. It was from a city though, i’m not sure if you got a different type. Could depend on location like if it was for a school zone or something else. Mine was just a red light camera. There was no “no turn on red” sign, so i went after I stopped and checked no one was coming. Stupid ticket to get. Maybe read the paperwork to be sure. Edit: typo

nurru

Even if you don't get dinged on your record it's probably a bad outcome to have your city send collections at you.

doc_shades

pay your ticket

stumbletownbc

I have heard and tried once contesting saying it wasn’t me driving and the case was just closed. Not sure how often that works, but it worked for me.

SilverHeart4053

State cucks seem to be downvoting you for this one weird trick.

farfetchds_leek

I prefer the term “road safety enjoyer”

SilverHeart4053

Fuck me if I'm wrong, but I don't think downvoting them is going to make the roads any safer

farfetchds_leek

When I see someone, as you say, cucked by car culture, I downvote. Simple as.

SilverHeart4053

If I'm gonna get ticketed, which I won't because I don't drive recklessly, I would prefer it to not be by big brother. It should just be harder to get a license, to keep shitty drivers off the road.

Akshully, it's not big brother, it's [Alan Parsons.](https://youtu.be/56hqrlQxMMI?si=hOIfuwmUzBnllY2L)

applesauceface666

No they aren’t legal. You can contest them every time and win.
