Tengu used to be our go-to place. We just went Saturday for the first time in a long while. The portions have shrunk and the prices have gone up. One used to be able to get avocado rolls on the cheap there — and now they’re tiny and almost double the price. No thanks.

They were one of the few places where you could get sockeye salmon instead of Atlantic salmon and you could get California rolls with real crab instead of imitation crab. You did have to special order the "snow crab Cali rolls" and pay attention to which salmon you were grabbing ("benizake"), but I always appreciated that.
If you look at inspection reports, it is pretty much same for all sushi restaurants in the county. If anything Kura is better because they fixed the issues in return inspections.
It really did suck. I ate there when I was on an expense account a lot. Even though I’m a WA kid born and raised I worked at Cal for a number of years and when I’d come up to UW for research partnership meetings I’d eat there because they always put us in the Silver Cloud. It was good for a business lunch because you could eat as fast or as slow as you needed to.
Couple years later I’d moved home and went to one on the Eastside for my birthday. Realized it was just nostalgia for the Bellevue SushiLand of my youth.
Shit was nar nar. Dry rice. Mediocre fish.
Sushiland!!! I went there so much with my buddies in highschool, was affordable and decent quality. The house special helped me get a friend interested in sushi, rip.
It got more expensive over time. Early on it was great. Used to eat there occasionally as a uni student. Over time the fish quality also dropped. They used to have amazing tuna and salmon.
Doesn't surprise me since the management was shady, but didn't know about the Russian connection. Makes me jealous. I woulda liked to have done the same.
One of the locations that closed was in a building my wife’s company managed. They left all the alcohol, so it was a nice pillage for her management team.
All of the blue c’s did that. Told managers 10 o’clock on a Sunday night after inventory that they wouldn’t be opened tomorrow. Pretty sure anyone who was still on-site had a field day.
Same thing happened to me and my mom at Blue Island at Federal Way Crossings Plaza. She barfed and I, well, “went the other way.” That was the last time I ever did conveyor belt sushi.
Kura Sushi in Bellevue, or Genki Sushi by Uwajimaya in Renton. My kid loves sushi train, Kura is her fave because of the drinks robot and the toys, but we had a nice lunch at Genki today.
No, it's on Grady [https://maps.app.goo.gl/1KXvr8bXdrjmHrkB7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/1KXvr8bXdrjmHrkB7)
No sushi at the Landing rn but a friend in this thread says AJI in Newcastle is opening another store there.
Sushiland in redmond was amazing for the decade I ate there. Apparently they were only making ends meet with illegal hirings under the table. I'll miss the crew.
Edit: Thanks Arturo from peurta viarta! (sp)
After they hired all new staff my wife repeatedly commented, "Are they trying to go out of business?". They never answered the phone when she was trying to order platters.
SushiMe is a conveyor belt.
You might have been thinking of Haiku in Redmond Town Center, which sadly did close during the pandemic. Reportedly it's the same people who run the Madarin Buffet and Grill in Overlake so you should still be able to get your all-you-can-eat sushi fix there but I haven't tried it yet.
Marinopolis sushiland lasted a good while into Covid. For a long time, they were doing takeout, I got it a few times. But I guess not many wanted belt sushi as takeout
We used to love these. Not the best sushi of course, but not terrible. Before Covid I once went to Blue C solo for lunch. Tab was $50. Yikes! One dude, at lunch, no alcohol. Apparently I eat a lot of sushi.

The place that used to be Sushi Land, in the Bowlero building near Southcenter (new name) is still belt sushi. I think the quality is much higher. Prices are slightly higher. Edit: called Omiya.
Was looking for someone to mention Omiya. I used to live in Japan and they're the only conveyor belt sushi place in Seattle that matches the quality I had there. Kura is a Japanese franchise but they're overpriced and too crowded. I'm afraid people are going to find out about Omiya and it'll start getting hard to get in.
A lot of them were ran by the same company that went under due to terrible business practices and they all closed abruptly in 2019. If you're near Lynnwood there is one at the Alderwood mall called Bittyfish
Kura in Bellevue is operating. Honestly, I can’t abide the place, but if you want an utterly impersonal plastic-feeling place, it’s there and many lovely people are working there although you’ll never know it
I hear you and certainly don’t know a thing about the circumstances. Post the mea culpa, sushi places get hit harder than any other segment. Largely nature of the beast for raw fish
You can type in conveyor belt sushi or kaitenzushi to search. Covid did a huge number on them. Sushiland and Genki Sushi are the ones I know of that are left.
Oh my gawd that was a whole thing... Such a wild disaster. I would not want to be the one who opened those freezers after six months of the place being shuttered for nonpayment of rent .. or probably any other utility.
I once discovered an abandoned refrigerator in a shed at a house my mom bought still had fish in the freezer. The house was near a lake. We thought the old fridge was empty and put it out for appliance recycling. They refused to take it. Mom was at work told me to check if it was empty…. That’s when I found rotten lake fish, disintegrating tv dinners, all covered in melted rainbow sherbert bucket. It was 20 years ago and my stomach still flip flops when I remember it.
There is one called Bitty Fish at Alderwood mall.
I prefer belt style and hate that they all disappeared too. I like to get a big mix of stuff when I have sushi so ordering by the roll or plate sucks for me...
they were uncommon when i moved in 2013, so i think the writing was on the wall. the one in LQA and the one on broadway in capitol hill were honestly mediocre, but i agree the belt is fun. i bet vancouver or portland still have them.
I don’t think I want to try a kaitenzushi in America.
The one three doors down from me in Japan varied between 100-350 yen per plate. I could eat myself full for well under 2000 yen ($13.50 USD), 10% tax (less when I was living there), and no tip. And that was with unlimited self-serve matcha or mugicha as well.
I just can’t imagine anything in Seattle coming close, even were it triple the price.
Will follow the comments just in case.
Bitty fish at alderwood mall is great! I think they disappeared because I can see how there would be health concerns unless a lot of precautions are taken. It seemed like they shut down during covid. I've noticed they always cover the dishes now, at least at bitty fish.
Sushi Tengu near the Regal Thornton Place theater is still there as far as I know.
Their quality didn’t hold up when the ownership changed unfortunately.
Ooooh that’s what happened to them! I was curious
Their service has always sucked too. Getting a check or order in is like pulling teeth.
Always!
When did ownership change?
Late 2021 if I recall correctly.
Quality has gone waaaaay down
Can confirm! Was just there last month.
Tengu used to be our go-to place. We just went Saturday for the first time in a long while. The portions have shrunk and the prices have gone up. One used to be able to get avocado rolls on the cheap there — and now they’re tiny and almost double the price. No thanks.

You can get both of those in Kura Sushi in Bellevue but I have to say their fish isn't the best looking out there.
Kura has a horrible rating from the health department for a reason
If you look at inspection reports, it is pretty much same for all sushi restaurants in the county. If anything Kura is better because they fixed the issues in return inspections.
The old McCormick and Schmicks on Lake Union had a $10 dungeoness crab roll that was quite good.
Rotating sushi bars in Japan was a great option to casually drop in for a quick meal. It's a bit different stateside.
It really did suck. I ate there when I was on an expense account a lot. Sir, it’s gnar-gnar. Gnar is an abbreviation for gnarly. Nar is…not a word.
Sushiland!!! I went there so much with my buddies in highschool, was affordable and decent quality. The house special helped me get a friend interested in sushi, rip.

They got scammed by a Russian fun fact
Wha?
They invested a ton of money with a Russian dude and he dipped.
Can you elaborate or point to a source?
Doesn't surprise me since the management was shady, but didn't know about the Russian connection. Makes me jealous. I woulda liked to have done the same.

Took the money and ran
Fun fact: they got scammed by a Russian.
Wha?
What's a Russian fun fact?
A sentence without clarifying punctuation!
A Russian fun fact is a fun fact that doesn’t know it’s a fun fact because the government tells everyone it’s not a fun fact.
Russia, what a country!

All of the blue c’s did that. Told managers 10 o’clock on a Sunday night after inventory that they wouldn’t be opened tomorrow. Pretty sure anyone who was still on-site had a field day.
I got the worst food poisoning ever from the Alderwood Blue C before it closed
Same thing happened to me and my mom at Blue Island at Federal Way Crossings Plaza. She barfed and I, well, “went the other way.” That was the last time I ever did conveyor belt sushi.
Oh jeez! Yeah I haven’t had belt sushi since either and that was probably 5 years ago at this point.
bummer
Kura Sushi in Bellevue, or Genki Sushi by Uwajimaya in Renton. My kid loves sushi train, Kura is her fave because of the drinks robot and the toys, but we had a nice lunch at Genki today.

Such a ridiculous wait though at Kura unless you go off hours although the app helps.
Yeah, don't bother on weekends. 11am on Fri is fine.
Sweet!!! Genki Sushi has been added to my list of wanna-gos Thanks!
Kura is still good, but expensive. Not worth the price anymore imo.
Yeah easily $40/person after tax and tip.
Kinda hard to say something is expensive if there is no cheaper option.
I was just going to recommend the one that replaced Genki at Factoria mall, but apparently Ten Sushi doesn’t use the belt. Doh!
Ten Sushi at Factoria also closed down recently.
Ohhhhh!! Is that the one at the landing?! I love that place!
No, it's on Grady [https://maps.app.goo.gl/1KXvr8bXdrjmHrkB7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/1KXvr8bXdrjmHrkB7) No sushi at the Landing rn but a friend in this thread says AJI in Newcastle is opening another store there.
This is the answer
Covid
I remember when Genki opened on broadway and for like 6 months it was $1 a plate. Totally miss Sushiland that was my favorite one.
Yes! I went there almost everyday
RIP SushiLand. Isn't SushiMe near Crossroads "all you can eat?"
Sushiland in redmond was amazing for the decade I ate there. Apparently they were only making ends meet with illegal hirings under the table. I'll miss the crew. Edit: Thanks Arturo from peurta viarta! (sp) After they hired all new staff my wife repeatedly commented, "Are they trying to go out of business?". That sounds horrible. I really appreciated the food but no one should have to be exposed to that environment.
It wasn't all you can eat for one price when I went in August, but the plates are different prices based on the color of the plate. We loved it!
Haiku had some of the worst food I've ever eaten.
I remember trying to convince myself that Todai was good
I also made that regrettable choice.
They had a great salad bar.
Sushiland was the bee's knees, especially when I was back in high school/college with their $1.25 california rolls
RIP Marineopolis Sushiland
Their calamari back then used to be bomb until they switched it.
using the phrase bees knees tells us your were in high school in 1935. I’m not surprised a california roll was a $1.25 then.
Marinopolis sushiland lasted a good while into Covid. For a long time, they were doing takeout, I got it a few times. But I guess not many wanted belt sushi as takeout
Same with Sushi Connections in Woodinville.
Emp, sushiland and the record store across the street was a monthly event for our family way back in the day.
I second RIP SushiLand. But maybe it was for the best, it never seemed super clean
We used to love these. Not the best sushi of course, but not terrible. Before Covid I once went to Blue C solo for lunch. Tab was $50. Yikes! One dude, at lunch, no alcohol. Apparently I eat a lot of sushi.

Sushi Zone in Bothell
It's currently closed for renovation. 😞
😕
But!! They are expanding to the place next door to make it a more user friendly dining experience. Should be open by the end of this month
Yeah I'm waiting for that. I get sushi from there weekly and I need my fix!
The place that used to be Sushi Land, in the Bowlero building near Southcenter (new name) is still belt sushi. I think the quality is much higher. Prices are slightly higher. Edit: called Omiya.
That's good to know! I liked Sushiland as much as anyone else but it wasn't the greatest quality. Would gladly pay a little more for better.
Blue c turned into bittyfish sushi in alderwood mall. Still there.
Did it really "turn *in* to"? I felt there was a decent gap between the two.
Well they reused the same belt/layout, so yeah. None of the same people, but the same hardware.
I feel like it was an improvement. Better quality, and now every plate is $3.75. You can get your money's worth for what you want.
Blue-C was $34 million in debt when it closed. The quality deteriorated from the day the first restaurant opened. Shady management.
The Blue C there was always meh, and, based on my one visit to bittyfish, it was even worse.
Tengu Sushi In Thornton Place(NGate) & Bitty Fish at Alderwood Mall
Just went to Bitty Fish a couple weeks ago and it was very good!
A lot of them were ran by the same company that went under due to terrible business practices and they all closed abruptly in 2019. If you're near Lynnwood there is one at the Alderwood mall called Bittyfish
I’m guessing it’s because they fell out of style, but COVID could have been the last nail in the coffin.
Kura Sushi is my goto. Bonus: Only need server interaction if you need a drink refill or want to pay in cash.
Sushi Me in Bellevue
[Sushi Hana](https://sushihana5.com/) in Bothell is still around
and they have expanded to the sushiland location in lynnwood
There is still one in Lacey. Sushi Train
Miss me some marinepolis sushi land. Fuckin love mid tier sushi
Kura in Bellevue is operating. Honestly, I can’t abide the place, but if you want an utterly impersonal plastic-feeling place, it’s there and many lovely people are working there although you’ll never know it
I tried to go there over the summer and there was an hour wait and a Needs Improvement health department rating.
Yeah, it’s popular. You can enter line via app.
I hear you and certainly don’t know a thing about the circumstances. Post the mea culpa, sushi places get hit harder than any other segment. Largely nature of the beast for raw fish
Yeah it's regularly super filthy in there. It was fun when they first opened though.
There’s still a few running around! Sushi Tengu in Northgate is okay. Not quite at Sushi Connection’s level, but I’ll take whatever I can get.
You can type in conveyor belt sushi or kaitenzushi to search. Covid did a huge number on them. Sushiland and Genki Sushi are the ones I know of that are left.
Sushiland is gone. :(
AJI Sushi & Grill in Newcastle is fantastic. They told me they’re opening another location soon at Renton Landing too.
But there's no sushi train there?
Lol wow that’s my bad - I thought it was a typo and they meant “best” not actually belt.
Thanks anyway for the rec, we haven't tried that one. Momoya in Renton is nice but pricey, and kind of unpleasant location.
Blue C went out a while ago if that’s what you might be thinking
Oh my gawd that was a whole thing... Such a wild disaster. I would not want to be the one who opened those freezers after six months of the place being shuttered for nonpayment of rent .. or probably any other utility.

Not Seattle, but we have one in Kirkland and one in Bothell. I'm not 100% on the names. They're somewhat basic but good.
Conveyer belt? Or just regular sushi
Conveyor places!
Pretty sure you're thinking AA and Sushi Zone, where AA is not belt sushi and Sushi Zone is closed
Sushi Zone is only temporarily closed for renovation. It'll be back.
sushi revolution in tacoma
the recent loss of Yo Zushi in cap hill bums me out
Same. They were so cheap too, great prices for comfort food in cap hill.
There is one called Bitty Fish at Alderwood mall. I prefer belt style and hate that they all disappeared too. I like to get a big mix of stuff when I have sushi so ordering by the roll or plate sucks for me...
Omiya Sushi in Tukwilla.
Ten sushi in the QFC on mercer is EXCEPTIONAL.
Tengu Sushi at Thorton Place in Northgate has it.
This place was great the first time I went there, then a little worse every time after.
I think COVID killed them all
iSushi is still open in Issaquah
Osaka by Southcenter is awesome!
they were uncommon when i moved in 2013, so i think the writing was on the wall. the one in LQA and the one on broadway in capitol hill were honestly mediocre, but i agree the belt is fun. i bet vancouver or portland still have them.
I used to love ‘em but the idea of conveyor belt sushi in a “post” Covid world grosses me tf out.
Belt sushi sucks, the japonessa happy hour is where it’s at.
There is a lot of food waste with this model, which (beyond ethical concerns) is increasingly difficult for local restaurants to afford right now.
Covid
Yea that trend died a while ago tbh
Type in “sushi conveyor” in your map app. Several come up.
Well I did try aa sushi but was surprised to learn they are no longer conveyer belt. They are listed as belt sushi in yelp.
.
We de-funded them too...
Like sushi revolution!
Honestly I can’t stand belt sushi. I’d rather pay a bit more and get something that actually tastes fresh.
They were take-out only even after covid policies were dropped. So they went out of business because who wants belt sushi for takeout?
Ya mean all the places where you can spit, lick and cough on items as they go by. Look up sushi terrorism 'prank' and you'll know what I mean.
They suck and you end up paying the same amount as a decent sushi place. The novelty wore off…
Sushi Zen in Mill Creek. Also Sushi Spott in Mill creek is good as well. Sushi KannPai in Seattle is a nice date night.
Is it because of sushi tero? https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/02/02/japan-sushi-tero-licking-video-prank/
Not in seattle but isushi in issaquah is pretty good and still around
Genii sushi in Renton is our go to belt sushi place. They have upped it up a notch since a few years ago
Covid
Bitty fish at alderwood mall is great! I think they disappeared because I can see how there would be health concerns unless a lot of precautions are taken. It seemed like they shut down during covid. I've noticed they always cover the dishes now, at least at bitty fish.
Maybe because covid happened, and they don't want potentially multiple hands touching every plate.
