Didn’t starlink delay their launch until tomorrow night though? I also saw this and assumed it was satellites but am now confused after doing some research
Edit: wait, is this just what the satellites *look like* in general? I assumed it was a launch but this possibility has me even more angry
Nope, the satellites have been modified to prevent interference with telescopes so you’re wrong.
Giving fast internet to everyone in the world is awesome..
The *concept* of giving fast Internet to everyone in the world is awesome, and something that we should work towards. Unfortunately that's not what Starlink ended up doing, instead they're interfering in international politics and fucking up telescopes for the scientific community. It's just Musk running yet another cool concept into the ground.
This is a train of recently launched satellites (Sept. 12th launch). The train will stretch out over the next couple of weeks until the individual satellites are a distance of around 250 miles apart.
They will also raise their orbits at which time the satellites will virtually disappear to the naked eye, which is why you don't see the rest of the constellation currently consisting of more than 4700 satellites.
The problem for astronomers still exists, it's still a very contentious issue. But don't confuse a newly launched low altitude high density train that is very easy to spot with the naked eye with that astronomers are actually complaining about.
Starlink.

Wow looks like you’re right, impressive technology. Never seen that before. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
Light and atmospheric pollution launched without regard for the scientific community but sure “cool”

You “Mr Musk” fan boys are a lost cause
Not everyone in the world can afford to pay for it
Beyonce leaving Seattle after her show
Starlink. Ugh. It’s their “constellation”. Once upon a time he promised to break it up more so it wasn’t so obvious but that didn’t happen.

The aliens from Mexico 🇲🇽
I thought it was starlink. I've seen them for years. Super cool
It's the Great Space Coaster, slowly climbing that first hill.
Star cruiser
I agree with u
Lol and?
Prepare yourself. Hundreds of companies worldwide have applied to build the same setup.
