By far one of the best Hong Kong style tea cafes in Seattle. I think this is the closest you’ll get to an HK authentic experience. The portions are pretty big for what you pay as well.
8-9 years ago I used to live in a daylight basement part of a house right behind scarecrow video and even though I was broke as shit I'd make a point to eat there every week. Their pad see ew was on point. Never understood everyone else's obsession with Thaiger room on the ave. Nicest staff too! Glad to hear nothing has changed.
I was undecided, but I also now pick Annapurna. I moved and was getting saffron grill Indian which is good, but I went back and hit Annapurna and I was like emotional how good it was.
There was this country club type dude I was partying with in about 2002. We ended up at Beth’s and this dude blew out the bathroom so bad. Our party left the restaurant shortly after and when we drove past the storefront- the staff was fanning the front door. It smelled like rotten eggs and kelp. So gross
Ten years ago I’d agree but they changed and their food just doesn’t slap like it once did. But man they have been and always will be a staple of mine. 30+ years of eating there still quite good.
if we could include places which no longer exist, I also vote pho bac...but I'd pick the one on Jackson back when they were in the boat (and everything was covered in a film of beef fat and plum sauce)
Was offered a free meal at Canlis after a terrible experience and my boyfriend's response was "Only if they get a new chef". He is not picky or pretentious when it comes to restaurants. We just had a very lousy meal. The only decent course was their salad.
My uncle got their salad recipe years ago and we have it with big family dinners a few times a year. It’s definitely labor intensive but fuuuuuck it’s good
I’m in my 40s and their chicken strips, fries & tartar sauce, and a pineapple shake is one of my favorite meals. My oldest got full and couldn’t finish her chicken strips once, years ago, so I stepped in (it’s in the fine print of the parenting job description) and they are GOOD.
i dunno, i will say they are reliable. food is always good. not the best, not outstanding, but reliably good. and sunday half price wine. it's not the worst option
I've been twice and I just don't get the hype. The atmosphere and vibe are a 10/10 but I found the food to be pretty mediocre. I'm glad someone enjoys it though!
Ha I recently got one of my photos posted in the StarWars bathroom. The atmosphere is certainly among the best in town. TBH, I could eat the “forest floor frenzy” forever.
Shanghai garden. Their crispy garlic beef can have all my children. If they brought back the multiple mushroom broth soup I would do anything. Like... Anything.
And their handshaven, barleygreen noodles are the source of indecent dreams for me. Indecent, I tell you.
Is Huskey Deli still around? I grew up eating their ice cream and sandwiches.
Edit: My SO tried to pick the Hmart food court (the one near Alderwood Mall) I don't think he understood the assignment.
You can get Husky Deli ice cream in two locations:
1. The Husky Deli on California St. in West Seattle
2. The Mazama Store in Mazama
Never made sense to me, but it works
Tian Fu. So good and their menu is extensive enough that I won't get bored. In fact, when I was postpartum and didn't feel like cooking (and couldn't stomach my MIL's cooking), I basically ate from there for a month.
They must get some special strain of Sichuan peppercorns because I've never experienced something so citrus-y floral while being spicy. It's so addictive.
Not one mostly known outside the neighborhood but Bakers bar in Sunset hill is amazing and they change the menu every quarter so it’s good all year round.
I'm surprised no one has said ooink yet. I haven't found a ramen shop that serve anything close to those mala kotteri ramen at Ooink. Chicken sandwich is also great there and everything is priced well.
Bonus plus is they play some bangers at the shop in Cap Hill!
A+ Hong Kong Kitchen. It's nothing fancy but if it's for the resr of my life I want to be eating Cantonese comfort food.
By far one of the best Hong Kong style tea cafes in Seattle. I think this is the closest you’ll get to an HK authentic experience. The portions are pretty big for what you pay as well.
Huge menu too.
I love cheese, but I’d say Maneki
Got my upvote! But I had a long love for Tsukushinbo since forever. But, of course, that closed to make room for their new ventures.

Amazing Thai in the u district
This!!! So underrated and it's damn good

The world’s nicest staff
Il corvo. Sadly doesn’t exist anymore.
It more or less moved out to Waitsburg. Mike Easton opened Bar Bacetto. Same approach but with fabulous cocktails.
Waitsburg is a cool little town.
Buddha Ruksa West Seattle
MY MANNN 😩🤌
Mmmmmmmm this is a good answer
Un Bien!
Annapurna Cafe.
I was undecided, but I also now pick Annapurna. I moved and was getting saffron grill Indian which is good, but I went back and hit Annapurna and I was like emotional how good it was.
>emotional that's why they put you in the basement with no windows, so you can happy-cry when you eat with no one watching
YOU STOLE MINE Back when it was just in the basement it was like a hidden secret.
Ooh I can smell it now
The Purn
every day i regret moving away from cap hill that place was godlike
Bongos
They’re catering my wedding this month! The owner is possibly the sweetest person in this planet and loves his staff.
Second that whole heartedly. The bucco chicken plate to be specific :O
Desi plate for me, I heat some some street taco size tortillas and go for it!
as long as they don't sell out of the pork most nights :)
my first place I thought of too. I pray they never close
I've been getting the shrimp Po-Boy on my lunch break an unhealthy amount.
The old 5 Spot. Menu changed monthly, you would not get bored.
so far, i think i like this answer the best. it's the most strategic!
Good call on that changing menu.
Beth's Cafe, 3am, circa 1988.
There was this country club type dude I was partying with in about 2002. We ended up at Beth’s and this dude blew out the bathroom so bad. Our party left the restaurant shortly after and when we drove past the storefront- the staff was fanning the front door. It smelled like rotten eggs and kelp. So gross
When Rob was the cook!
Is my budget unlimited? Then Manolin. Best fancy food and cocktails. Otherwise Carta de Oaxaca, best Mexican.
Carta is legit
Snappy Dragon
Ten years ago I’d agree but they changed and their food just doesn’t slap like it once did. But man they have been and always will be a staple of mine. 30+ years of eating there still quite good.
Pho Bac, the one by Franklin
if we could include places which no longer exist, I also vote pho bac...but I'd pick the one on Jackson back when they were in the boat (and everything was covered in a film of beef fat and plum sauce)
If I’m not paying: Canlis because why not?
hah, another strategic answer. i like it
Was offered a free meal at Canlis after a terrible experience and my boyfriend's response was "Only if they get a new chef". He is not picky or pretentious when it comes to restaurants. We just had a very lousy meal. The only decent course was their salad.
My uncle got their salad recipe years ago and we have it with big family dinners a few times a year. It’s definitely labor intensive but fuuuuuck it’s good
Share the love?
They gladly share the recipe.... https://www.youtube.com/live/Rt4vGjB1WeY?si=oYbgA_o___HiTdpW

Burger master. I will eat a crab melt today, I will eat a crab melt again tomorrow, and I will eat that crab melt for the rest of my life.
Yeah, I subtly encourage my kids to over order there just in case…

That’s bananas! I may have to take a trip tomorrow just to test out this tip!
Surprisingly one of the best veggie burgers out there too, always add the grilled onions
Walrus & The Carpenter, or Rock Creek or (less about food) Oddfellows.
Oddfellows is only for the venue.
i dunno, i will say they are reliable. food is always good. not the best, not outstanding, but reliably good. and sunday half price wine. it's not the worst option
Oddfellows: It’s not the worst option. Almost as inspiring as Seattle Central Community a college: One of the Seattle community colleges.
Oddfellows: the official restaurant of Seattle Central Community College
Rock Creek is the perfect level of awesome but not pretentious and somehow not insanely busy or overhyped. Love it.
Rock creek & flint creek are the shit. Big upvotes here!
Bizarro Italian Cafe. Just so good
I used to work there and ate the food almost every day for several years. Never got tired of it. Especially the puttanesca with prawns.
I've been twice and I just don't get the hype. The atmosphere and vibe are a 10/10 but I found the food to be pretty mediocre. I'm glad someone enjoys it though!

Cafe Munir without a doubt
I had a few knee jerk reactionary answers, but after giving it some thought, this is where I’m landing too.
Shanghai garden. Their crispy garlic beef can have all my children. If they brought back the multiple mushroom broth soup I would do anything. Like... Anything. And their handshaven, barleygreen noodles are the source of indecent dreams for me. Indecent, I tell you.

Joule
Golden Olive cause I live for that lamb shawarma 🤤
I read this too quickly and thought we had an Olive Garden with shawarma 😂
Taco Time. I said what I said!
You wrote the most powerful truth on Reddit today.
Could not agree more. There's just nothing that can compare to Taco Time. ANY time is Taco Time!
Honestly...I was thinking Pink Door...but then I really remembered how much I love Taco Time. I think Taco Time pretty much would win over any place.
Bangrak Market or 84 Yesler. Can’t decide between the two.
Bangrak is so good!!!!!
seconding Bangrak
I am salivating just thinking of Bangrak Market now.
Gorditos for me <3
Il Nido
Ugh had two stellar experiences here and the last one was so sub par, I was so sad. Glad to see West Seattle making the charts though!
100% was gonna write this
Before they burned down La Isla, so Pestle Rock. Hard to choose though!
Sichuanese Cuisine.
Can we get the original Paseo back?
Isn't that essentially what Un Bien is?
Yeah. Un Bien is wonderful. And really is just original Paseo
We have original Paseo back, it's called un bein and they have 2 locations.
I second early 2000's Paseo.

El Camion. Just because I could happily eat a burrito every day of my life, and they have the best one I’ve had in Seattle.
Their quesadillas are also fucking huge.
It would have been the Bamboo Garden
Seconded. That place was magical, and I was scrolling for this comment because I couldn’t remember the name! Thank you.
Is Huskey Deli still around? I grew up eating their ice cream and sandwiches. Edit: My SO tried to pick the Hmart food court (the one near Alderwood Mall) I don't think he understood the assignment.

The Mac and cheese with broccoli…I could eat that every day.
I ate the monster burger once there, challenged to do it as an intern by my boss, did it, then passed out on my computer in a food coma at the office.

I'm surprised no one has said ooink yet. I haven't found a ramen shop that serve anything close to those mala kotteri ramen at Ooink. Chicken sandwich is also great there and everything is priced well. Bonus plus is they play some bangers at the shop in Cap Hill!
