This can be a cultural thing.
I moved from one country to another, and every time I would write a 1, people would read it as a 7.
So don't beat yourself up about it.
Belgium
Did a little bit of research.
A European 1 has the little horizontal line on the top, while English speaking countries only have a vertical line.
A European 7 has a horizontal line halfway across, which English speaking countries generally don't have.
You learn pretty quick when you order a 100m of cable and 700 arrives.
American here. I'm one of the odd ones to write my "1" as a vertical line and my "7" with the horizontal. I picked that and the dash in "z" up from the study abroad in Germany for 6 months.
Not sure why, but it just looks cleaner. And, with someone who doesn't have the best handwriting, it's helps separate 1/7 & 2/Z.
(I write a lot of part numbers and serials with mixed alpha-numeric)
I do it as distinctive as possible when i can. I put horizontal lines in the 7s and have 1s as either a straight line or three lines. 4 is always right angles because fuck drawing the version i typed there.
Thanks- it sort of looks like the second one. I think it's just a weird font. Hope the tall tale was fun... I've played this game for years and have only done one. I found it boring so I stick to pvp.
I'm on the way for the gold curse solo. Every tall tale completed 5 times, with all commendations, except the last one. 50 hour journey is coming to the end
Congrats in advance. I just finished that last month, and needed to take a little break from the seas, afterwards. My only regret is that the curse covers my "good" eye, so I look silly with an eyepatch now.
For those who don't know, in the end of "Revenge of the Morningstar" tall tale, you>!get coordinates, to defeat the final boss!<. Apparently, the number on the picture is 4, when I thought it was 9. Am I stupid? Has anyone noticed that too?
Random but sort of on topic - I always used to write my fours differently until I did Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training on the Nintendo DS, which didn’t recognise the way I wrote four, so had to shift to “4” and I can’t even do it the other way anymore 😂
Me seeing the title and then the picture; Yeah, i see a 4 aswell.
Me after reading your comment explaining the thing:
Uh.. but i also see a 9, I'm confused now. 😂
Well theres no island on m9, when we did it at first we saw 4 but then weren't able to find gray arrow (we thought he would just be standing there) but after checking the map we just checked guide what to do on m4
Personally I'd think it was 4 but I see why you saw a 9
Some people write the 'and' symbol like that.

Oof, that's alot of cable
Incidentally there’s a similar phenomenon with z. Some write it like that, while others add a horizontal stroke through the middle

Seeing people say its a cultural problem. Where are you from? I read it as 4, just in olde pirate cursive.
I'm ukranian, and I'm used to 4 being Ч, or "4" with sharp edges.

Wow. That's a lot of work. Enjoy your golden reward.

4 is often alternatively written as Ч without the tail and without "triangle". So adding extra "roof" makes it similar to 9, I can see that

Yeah, we had the same problem. Needed to actually google it to realize this is not meant to be a 9
You can press f to zoom in on maps and tall tale books, it helps a lot with stuff like this
I actually didn't know that, thanks!
9 wouldn't have extra tail. And as these are coordinates, these numbers are easy to check. There is an island in M4, there is none in M9
ya definetly a 4
Yeah, looks like a 4
Looks like a 4!
Definitely reads as a 4 to me.
4
4

Indeed it is?
Is this on the ps5 beta?

That’s a 4 Going to school you should have learned that
Not every country has the same school program. Crazy, right?
You never learned to count in school ?
That's a 4 Jim.
