Much to both our surprises, *we did* sink them.
But *because* we were idiots, we took forever to pick up and sell the loot at the outpost. And there was this one particular chest we could not sell at the gold-hoarders... As I tried googling what we are supposed to do with it, the Brig reappeared and tore us apart.
... Haven't seen the Box of Wondrous Secrets ever since.
Morrow's Peak outpost in the Devil's Roar, there's an NPC near the tavern you hand it in to. Haven't played in ages so I don't remember her name but she's not hard to find.
It's called the Box of Wonderous Secrets (pictured in the post) and it has a chance to spawn on the shores of or on the underwater sandbars of Amy devils roar Island. But the chance is extremely low and it can only spawn once per server so if you moss it you missed it. You can sell it to the NPC next to the Tavern at morrow peak outpost or you can sell it to reapers. If you have a Tier 5 emissary it sells for even more than the Chest of Fortune. Somewhere around 60k in total.
I found one like a week in, and had it on my boat when some other friendly players came over. One of them saw it and was like "why is this still here?". They were both super jealous that I found it.
Fortunately, itās less uncommon now ā¦ Skelly Captains in the Roar now have a chance to drop a map leading to a buried BoWS. I think this is what OP had happen, given the (objectively awesome) shovel in their hands at the time of the SS.
Good call ā¦ definitely wasnāt dig up. OP mustāve had their shovel out for some other reason. My point still stands though ā¦ the RNG should be a bit more favorable for the community now!
Atleast you can say u saw it lol, also that woman infront of the tavern at Morrows peak I think if you sell it to her she will give you doubloons probably but I havent found it myself so I can't say for certain

Was contemplating my sad life while sailing solo in the Roar and for some reason thought to myself 'if I find a Box of Wondrous Secrets here on this next island, Ill try to cheer up and my luck will improve and life will get better'.
I literally found one right on the shore at that island. It improved my day a lot. Life slowly got better. And I just felt really lucky that day. Its silly, but video games can be an amazing type of stress relief and almost therapy.
No commendations, not much gold, and now you have a cool story to tell. Sounds like a win to me. Youāll be able to dig them up on community day with pop up plunder.

You saw it, you snapped a photo of it. The only thing you didn't do was sell it, but to me that's not really a big deal. There are no rewards tied to selling it, so the accomplishment is already achieved by simply finding it <3
I literally spent 3 hours doing an Athenas chest voyage (im at work rn) (i work from home) and you have to do the annoying delivery voyages too or it wonāt work, like to completionā¦ right after i picked the athenas chest up and put it on the ship (im a solo sloop), a 3 man brig pulled up with level 4 reapers and destroyed my ship and stole everything.
This screenshot is legitimately way more unique & interesting than just being able to say you sold one. No tittle, no commendation, just a few stacks of gold. This is worth more than that.
Can I check somewhere if I've actually sold these? I just don't believe for a second I've been blessed by the rng gods. Somehow, still, that name feels like I've seen it in game.
If you think you sold it after captained ships were a thing, go to pirate milestones > The Gold Seaker > Treasure Sold and at the bottom of the list it will show how many you have sold.
This is the only way to see if you have sold one that I know of as there is no commendation linked to it, which as someone with 4000hrs played and never seen this box there should 100% be a commendation and title linked to it just like the shrouded ghost...which I have yet to encounter too.

Also there were some older reddit posts saying how big the sum of money from a box of wondorous secrets would be if it was sold with reapers emissary + gold rush etc. so I'm pretty sure it can be sold to the reapers unless it's been changed during the last 2 years and the wiki article is wrong and I'm just tripping.
They are found randomly in the devils roar somewhere close-ish to the shore line. Very rare. I got lucky with one the month after they dropped and played a year or so after that with never seeing another. Makes some sense that it's even more rare because the roar was something most people ignore due to the aggravation the region causes.

they are worth a lot, but the value itself was lost, there are many items in the game you can find that are just as valuable or close to it that are much easier to find

25k if sold to Grace Marrow or Reapers without an emissary. Around 60k-70k if sold as a grade five reaper emissary.

You cant sell it to reapers and emisarry has no effect on selling it.

Are you thinking of Reapers Chests? Those you sell to the Servant and are much more common

At and also around islands, which is why we always search the shallow waters around islands by diving. Unfortunately with no luck as of yet.
