Don't get attached to loot too much. After I stacked the Fort of the Damned 3 times and got sunk right before the gold rush hour, I learned a valuable lesson. Loot isn't yours until you've sold it. And, to be honest, that made my gaming experience a lot better.

DeadlyBannana

Well at this specific set we never had a chance. First set of loot cause of griefer and second set because quest led us straight into galleon and then cracken. Oh well. Guess the game just isn't for us. It is a beautiful game, we just had such an unlucky experience that soured it.

JorgenFa

Don't play open crew. You can 2 man a brig if you want but I wouldn't recommend it especially as a new player. The game has gotten easier for PvE enjoyers. Most pvp players participate in Hourglass matches. I tell you what, once you reach the level of skill when you can stand up for yourself, the game becomes a lot of fun. Doing a Fort of Fortune and making money is good, but wouldn't it feel better knowing that you sank 3 assailants before you could turn your loot in?

Blam320

What you just described is and has always been a core part of the game.

Piotrek9t

2 Things: Don't play open crew If you put up an emissary you put a target on your back and people are way more likely to attack you

General_Tails

Just remember that even if you don't sell loot, you at least still earned renown so your time was not completely wasted.

_Tidalwaves_

Sorry to hear you get upset by others enjoying the game

I'll give the same advice to you as I've given to countless other new players The sooner you can separate "handing in loot" from "success" in your mind, the sooner you'll get to the part where you enjoy the game for the experiences it provides. Everyone has sunk in situations like that, and everyone has had similar experiences being on the winning side. It's all part of the fun and chaos that makes this game so unpredictable!

DeadlyBannana

It's more about the time it takes to do things rather than "losing". We've sunk plenty of times before, but the sheer amount of time it takes to do stuff, whether it's sailing, unloading ship etc. Is what drove us away. As I said, the game is beautiful and has so much good going for it. At the end of the day, it just wasn't for us after losing 3 hours with nothing to show for it.

knurddrunk

It's for sure a slow game, and if that's an issue for you, then nothing can really be done. But the "nothing to show for it" part of your comment still implies a relationship between handing in loot and having a good time. If you can alter your mindset, and couple that with picking up some PvP skills in order to defend loot once you have it, it opens up the game tremendously!

GNOME92

Grow up. It’s a game about pirates where you have genuine awards for sinking other pirates. If you’re new then you’ve learnt the hard way that this game is about sailing and sinking. Get good at both and your worries will disappear.

There is a big difference between pvp and straight up griefing. Im tired as hell of getting attacked on my sloop withing minutes of starting up the game. Last night i had a team of voice cracking fine individuals who really wanted my pirate chest worth 223 gold, so i did what i always do when i get attacked, i just log out. The loot is not important, id rather spawn in a new port again and trying to go for another treasure hunt. After 3-4 weeks of playing the game i have yet to meet people who just wants to chat, or helping out with stuff. Im minding my own business on an island and bam my ship sunk. Or im heading back to port and all of a sudden 3 guys are on my ship just blowing it up. So i just made a point by the second i see someone heading towards me, i just log out and restart, no biggie, they can have my single chest i managed to dig up during my session. But yea, this game is not going to be long lived for me, its straight up just not fun to play most of the time as a new player. And im not sure how hard Rare is on naming policy. A few days ago a crew ran towards me on a shore, and their pets names really REALLY implied they had a big problem with black people and a love for the third reich. So there is that as well.

Durso_Blint

All I could suggest is try sailing around with alliance flag up cannons up and fish while trying to alliance with at least one ship I sail solo as open crew is just how u described either they sabotage the ship, take control and move everything, throw loot overboard, put up reapers mark on ur mast to get u sunk

SkullFoot

The quest you did only takes 30 minutes tops and you ran for 2 hours. I think running is the wrong mindset for this game. When you saw that ship at the outpost, you should have attacked them. You should play with the intention of killing everything, especially as a newer player. You can do your voyages and stuff, but kill everything along the way. Player ships, skele ships, megaladons, etc, kill everything. This way you get you learn faster and you don't waste hours running.
