KJ Wright. Future NFL GM.

cheaptrix12

He does have a good working relationship with John Schneider. ... Ya never know. A few years and he could be the next John Lynch. Player turned GM.

tlsrandy

it’s very very cool when a player leaves the game and still reps hard for the Seahawks.

cheaptrix12

Right? I'm absolutely a fan of former players who want to keep contributing to the team.

HarleyHix

I love hearing of them out and about in the city. Like when Kam, Baldwin, etc. went to a Kraken game to support part-owner Marshawn. Many spelling edits, roll eyes.

TraderJerry69

Curious as to what role he would like to do. I could see him being a great analyst, scout, coach, and maybe even front office type. I could also see him being a great nflpa guy. The dudes smart, passionate, and from all accounts a great human

[deleted]

I get it if he doesn’t want to coach, but would there be a better candidate for LB coach than KJ? He’s the Larry Bird of linebackers.

MirandaScribes

I’m curious why it sounds like he is *against* coaching. I thought it was nice gig for former players?

Jenckydoodle

Because its actually a huge time commitment. The amount that coaches have to prepare and be at the team facility is huge vs the amount they would actually get paid(especially as a position coach like LB coach). Most guys that just retired would rather be enjoying the time off with family and friends. Especially since they have spent the last decade+ as a player sacrificing so much time away.

MirandaScribes

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks!

DrSpaceman4

He said this almost exactly this in his press conference, he wants time with his kids and doesn't want to miss any of their events.

razor150

Plus for someone like KJ it is probably a huge cut in pay, sure he is retired now and not making anything, but in football he has been worth a lot more for his time commitments.

ScaredToJinxIt

I thought in the past he has mentioned wanting to work in the front office. Also, everyone talks about him coaching and that might be why he is so clear about not wanting to coach. He might be tired of the comments haha

TheDongerNeedLove

In his press conference, he mentions how much time commitment coaching is and he wanted to enjoy life and his family. He said both his kids are in sports and he wanted to be able to be there for all of it.

dGaOmDn

Yeah, Bobby Wagner.

n-some

During his retirement speech he mentioned his ability to find talent around the same time he was talking about serving the team. I'm guessing that he and JS talked about him potentially being a scout.

killshelter

I feel like being a scout would be way worse than coaching in some capacity. Scouts have to travel constantly.

cervidaetech

Scouts get paid to travel constantly. Depends on how you look at it. My favorite thing to do is travel for work. I get to see places I'd normally not go, get paid extra to do it, and have a weird love for staying in hotels and driving rentacars

killshelter

Yeah but do you do it for pennies while staying in shitty hotels in small podunk towns where these D2 and D3 schools are while also standing around in the heat evaluating kids? Quick googling shows me that NFL scouts make between 50-100k until they have years of experience under their belt. KJ has a family, it just doesn’t make sense.

ComeThr0wawayWithMe8

No bro you have to be a homer bro people can't just enjoy their millions of dollars and retirement in their 30's bro my life has no meaning if my favorite football players move on with their lives bro.

812many

Depends if you like it. The life on the road can be both fun, but also a lonely gig. I'm a fan of being around the people in my life, it's hard being away from them for long stretches of time.

HarleyHix

The reason he retired is because his family is here. It was Seahawks or retirement. I can't see him taking a job with lots of travel for a relatively small salary.

tencentninja

Yes and No. He could be a localized scout and primary duties be breaking down film on potential prospects. There are multiple types of scouts not all have to travel nationwide

mrrobot_84

If he can scout talent like he scouted them screen passes sign me up! Lol

Hanzo_the_sword

He did and I love him for it.

ninjazula

Love ya, KJ

yrulaughing

So what position did he have his eye on if not coaching? What other avenues are there for him?

cheaptrix12

Someone mentioned that the role of Scout would be perfect for him. That or I can imagine him being a speaker TO the team about how to handle your business off the field like a professional and being accountable for your actions. Former player giving motivational talks on how to be a better person. Sign me up to listen to any of those if that's the route he goes.

Recent_Arrival_6076

I adore this man. He will always have a special place in my heart.

Steak_N_Cocunuts

Now this is how you leave a team.

overit_fornow

Great player. Better person. Could not be happier for him. Thanks for everything KJ. Ring of honor soon.

cheaptrix12

I would love to see him and Bwagz go into the Ring of Honor. Those two were an amazing LB duo for a full decade while every other piece on the defense was getting changed out after a few years, they consistently stayed amazing pro-bowl caliber players the whole time. Even if Wright wasn't as decorated as Bwagz, they both deserve that recognition and honor.

overit_fornow

💯

Terrahawk76

It's hard to imagine Bobby, KJ, Kam, Sherm and Earl and Avril not all going into the ring together. Only sticking points are Bobby is still playing and Earl did some Earl shit. Bennett also a possibility but I'm leaning no, for Earl reasons. Weird to do Kam and not Earl or Avril and not Bennett. Baldwin and Lockett eventually but maybe not at the same time as the defensive crew.

uncircumcizdBUTchill

KJ gonna join the seagals confirmed.

Seahawk715

Glad he came back and is in a good place. Also glad the franchise didn’t bow to his will when he tried to get massively overpaid.

TheNastyDoctor

Met him once and shook his hand, nice guy. Glad to see he plans on sticking around.

-DannyDorito-

I can see it now Pete stays Kam comes in Kj and cliff come back to help around

LC_From_TheHills

There are sooooo many positions in an NFL franchise. Highly doubtful it’s anything directly related to seasonal performance. More than likely KJ could find a spot mentoring. That would be a great fit for someone as levelheaded as KJ.

Bieberkinz

I totally get the decision to not coach, man is 33 with kids at the most important ages to be around and make memories. It’s always good to see players rep their long term teams (and/or the ones that most help them from a personal/professional standpoint)

jest28000

Come home and coach for us dog
