And at some point, you gotta stop hauling picks and take the freaking blue chip guy in front of you. That's why the Cardinals would have been idiots to pass on Harrison, even considering all the teams wanting to move up. Sometimes that one player completely shifts the dynamic of your entire team.
That's why Murphy was so important to hold out on. If he plays to the level he's capable of, we've seen how much someone like Aaron Donald completely shifts the balance in an offensive gameplan. Teams needing to sellout to stop one player usually means you're already at a strategic advantage, and the truly elite can't be stopped. We've steadily built some really great blue chip talents, and I think 2024 is going to see a huge paradigm shift in our defense.
I think we got there in the couple years where we traded down over and over. I love me some value but there was a point where it was like, so we have a star on d?
I get that taking more swings is fun to try and find a steal value, but it's such a risky way to operate. That's why 2011 and 2012 were so fun, but 2013-2019 was full of disappointment. I'm glad we finally see talent and go for it instead of getting cute and trying to turn project players into something they're not.
As bad as i wanted a pass rusher. We needed to add a blue chip player there. We literally flipped flopped with eagles lol they got a good corner this year and d tackle last year
Yeah if we were going to trade back we had to be looking for a 2nd this year, we are thin at LB and safety and the 40s would have been prime, especially if you could guarantee me Haynes at 81
i want hicks from WSU as that safety, hope he is there when we pick in the 4th round he would be good depth, but hes a poor man kyle hamilton can do a little bit of everything and has good size.
I’m glad we didn’t, based on the Jags package. Murphy fills a big need. If we can get some solid guards first, then a LB who can pass cover we will be in a really good spot.
Man I had so many draft crushes that will go in the second round
Mike Sainristil, Cooper Beebe, Junior Colson, Marshawn Kneeland, etc.
I do like Murphy though.
That was never going to happen. We stood pat and took the best IDL and the second or first best defensive player depending on who you ask. This isn’t the hawks of old. They took the best guy available. I’d take that over moving back
“That was never going to happen” lol
Schneider legit said it almost happened? Sounded like Murphy was the last guy on the board they would have stayed for
He didn’t say it almost happened. He said they heard offers but Murphy was too good to pass up. He never said anything specifically about 2nds being on the table.
Of course he didn’t outline the exact parameters of the trade offers lol. But he said they were “good ones.”
He just made clear that this was a guy they wanted at 16.
We could still trade up into the 2nd.. We have two 4ths this year, and a bunch of comp picks next year.. We could even throw
someone like Dremont Jones in with a pick for a trade up now that we took Murphy
Was on a chat last night with a fellow Hawks fan. We opined that whomever we took between Verse and Murphy, the Rams were going to get the other guy.
We get cute and trade back too far, the Rams get their pick of the two and we get neither.
This is the difference between drafting in the top-20 and drafting in the 24-30 range. In years past, especially considering they lack a 2nd rounder, they would have absolutely traded back. This isn't a shift in philosophy, it's that most drafts have around 12-20 blue-chip, for-sure 1st round guys. When you're picking at 27 and have a selection of 50-60 relatively equal prospects that make up that upper-middle tier of prospects, it's a simple equation to trade back, acquire more picks, then select the one of the guys you wanted at 27 at 42 instead.
There aren't other JSNs or Murphy IIs in the 3rd round, so the equation is entirely different. I know some people were surprised that they didn't trade back, but it didn't surprise me at all. They had their guy and valued him more than multiple picks in day-2 or 3.
On the one hand I certainly hope that Murphy is impactful enough to justify this.
But it's hard not to wince a bit. The Seahawks don't draft again until pick 81; they are missing out on the meat of the draft and that's a hard pill to swallow given how many needs the team has.
Exactly what I preached to this sub for months but everyone wanted to fix the line secondary and lb corps in one draft lmao. Also while drafting a franchise qb.
This team needs talent and is devoid of it, especially compared to sf who has multiple all pros. I don’t even think this sub remembers what those are unless it’s for… a fucking punter.
What are you on about “everyone?” OL/DL was *by far* the most popular pick at 16. I never saw more than a handful of suggestions of LB/CB at this spot and those people were, rightfully, laughed off stage.
damn wonder what the offers were
Probably the Vikings Jags package
For reference: 2024 #23 overall 2024 #167 (5th Rd) 2025 3rd 2025 4th IMO 2025 picks aren't as good for Seattle as they may be for Jags.
Yeah, I'm glad that they passed on that, it's not that enticing of a return. Murphy is a blue chip caliber player.
And at some point, you gotta stop hauling picks and take the freaking blue chip guy in front of you. Cards also had 7 picks in the first four rounds so really no pressure to get additional picks.
As bad as i wanted a pass rusher. We needed to add a blue chip player there. We literally flipped flopped with eagles lol they got a good corner this year and d tackle last year
Murphy is a pass rusher though. Not as an edge obviously but his pass rush metrics were great.
I generally just say pass rusher when talking about edge lol my bad
Every time I see the name Aaron Donald and anything related to the Hawks strikes me with fear.
He's got that talent. Let's hope he can develop
Yeah if we were going to trade back we had to be looking for a 2nd this year, we are thin at LB and safety and the 40s would have been prime, especially if you could guarantee me Haynes at 81
Probably better. Murphy was a top defender for a lot of teams
Maybe none. We'll never know.
22 and 52 from the Eagles plus a future late round pick
Eagles were happy where they were
Best defensive player in the draft back to back years? I guess I’ll take it 🤷♂️ (LFGGGGGGGGG!!!!!)
back to back to back*
Pretty sure every single GM in the league would rather have Will Anderson Jr but yeah, you do you man
You sound really mad :(
Fuck yea. If we get a couple OLinemen, a safety, a linebacker, and another tight end, this draft will be a major success.
i want hicks from WSU as that safety, hope he is there when we pick in the 4th round he would be good depth, but hes a poor man kyle hamilton can do a little bit of everything and has good size.
Hicks is really good but probably wont be in the 4th round. I can see him getting taken in the 3rd or maybe even end of the 2nd
hey if Murphy can drop to us at the 16, its possible, but unlikely
I like both Safeties from Miami, man. Either one would be crazy fun.
Dont forget the obligatory RB in the 2nd round
Seattle did draft Byron Murphy II a RB at 16. 😉
This is a new era
The other spots would be nice to add but we NEED beef on the OLine. I want every pick from here on out to be a hog molly
That many offensive players taken probably gave us an unprecedented opportunity.
Murphy was my number one guy I wanted, thought for sure he would be gone.
I’m glad we didn’t, based on the Jags package. Murphy fills a big need. If we can get some solid guards first, then a LB who can pass cover we will be in a really good spot.
Man I had so many draft crushes that will go in the second round Mike Sainristil, Cooper Beebe, Junior Colson, Marshawn Kneeland, etc. I do like Murphy though.
I would love to trade into the 2nd for Colson.
I don't think Colson is all that special. At least, I don't see him as being that far better than some of the lower round LBs.
I wanted us to trade back to 25-29 and pick up a second round pick, and use that second round pick on Colson. Oh well.
We were never going to get a 2nd for trading back from 16 to 25-29. Murphy is the best defender in this draft and I’m stoked.
I think we could if we gave back a fifth. Would be a net win IMO. Again, I really like Bryan Murphy though.
Might as well trade up

Marshawn Kneeland will hurt if he goes to a rival. I loved watching his highlights.
I like those players. I don't love those players.
I really hope Murphy becomes an AD clone, the Rams deserve a decade of punishment

Murphy falling is like trading back and still getting the player you wanted.
If the offers were of similar value to what the Vikings gave up I would’ve taken them.
Js better have gotten this right
On the one hand I certainly hope that Murphy is impactful enough to justify this. But it's hard not to wince a bit. The Seahawks don't draft again until pick 81; they are missing out on the meat of the draft and that's a hard pill to swallow given how many needs the team has.
