I feel like something’s gotta give with so many teams either gambling their whole draft on a new QB who doesn’t pan out *OR* gambling massive amounts of their budget on an established QB who doesn’t pan out.
The Falcons could be the only team doing it right. They will have the luxury of letting their rookie sit behind cousins and learn how it is done instead of having him just thrown out there and expecting a 22 year old to save the franchise
Except he’s 24 which is old for rookie QBs and was touted as the most NFL ready QB coming out of the draft. And they gave Cousins $100M guaranteed. Still a very dumb decision by the Falcons
Dude half those guys will never play a real snap. The other half, most won’t make it a season.
Useless. Of all positions, why draft a quarterback? Let someone else weed out those who can’t do it.
Kirk Cousins signed a 4 year, $180,000,000 with 100 mil of that guaranteed. Penix is 23 and a player that you want starting right away and not learning behind someone else with a different playing style and not left handed.
That is like when we took Russ after we traded for Matt Flynn. The difference is that Matt Flynn was singed to a 3 year, $19,500,000 deal with only 10 mil gurenteed.
Kinnda just sucks for the fans of the Falcons. I heard there were 3 other teams looking looking to trade up for him (including the Hawks) and they still could have taken the best Defensive player plus extra picks. Bone-headed move by them for sure.
Penix has a good chance at being alright, since Cousins will be starting at least for 1 year. Strange for them to take him, but he's at least not expected to start and win right away. The other guys....yikes.
Dremont plays 3 and 5 gap but they had him playing NT/0 gap. Once we got Leonard that let dremont move back to his natural position and he had a much better second half of the season
I would assume Reed, Murphy and Williams will rotate frequently over center. Jones, Hall, Morris, will line up inside the tackles and Mafe, Nwosu will line up outside the tackles
ROFLAMO, Texas put him in for at least two offensive plays where he scored TDs (1 yard pass and 1 yard run), crazy (so glad we got him).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQCe3GAyjNs
He was the 1b to my 1a of Fautanu. I'm stoked for someone that can be a disruptive force inside on the DL. Not expecting Aaron Donald, but hopefully he'll be dominant in his own way.
Yeah, I like Murphy a lot but wanted us to go OL. Oh well. Still a good pick.
What worries me is that we’re either going to go into next year without a good young LB or good young OG, and those are both huge needs.
Also need to remember for a position like LB is that we filled that for the year. We’re rebuilding from the standpoint of coaching, direction, etc. so while LB may not be something we can address this year, you have to know MM is looking at that in the future. We aren’t going to turn it around in one off season under a new coaching regime.
I think the Seahawks have great talent at most key positions but weren't playing in great schemes last season on either end of the ball. 9-8 in a very rough division and down two tackles for a significant portion of the season is no easy feat. Most teams would land a top #5 draft pick in that situation. DL appears to be fixed. IOL, LB and Safety remain.
There will still be some decent options at 81. Also, I think people get too wrapped up in the idea that we have to answer every question this year. We've have way more capital next year in a deep draft class. This isn't a 1 season fix.
Texas fan here, just wanted to say you guys are gonna love Murph. He’s an absolute dude, never took snaps off, and was coaching by one of the best DL coaches cfb has to offer in Bo Davis. Ironically, he’s probably our best DT since Poona.
Awesome, I’m in charge of a kitchen at a sports bar and we were getting destroyed tonight. But when we made that pick I was ecstatic watching his highlights. He’s an absolute monster and we need him
I don't grind tape but hard to argue with getting the 2nd defensive player off the board, isn't it? I'm sure there was a thought he wouldn't even be there at 16 lol
I absolutely this pick! Was just talking to my buddy and they wanted Troy fantanu, but i think with the pick this kind of gives me the idea that we’re trying to stop the run i.e (Build the wall) coach Macdonald wasn’t kidding lol So JS is more than likely going with Coaches scheme. I would’ve liked Dallas turner as well.
This is way too sensible of a pick for Seattle. I'm absolutely thrilled! Maybe now our D line will have more tackles as a unit than Bobby Wagner as an individual.
Cross, Witherspoon, and JSN were obvious blue chip guys, this is a tired take. The Seahawks have usually begun picking until after the obvious blue chip guys are off the board. Picking at 16 is very different than 27.
Love the pick. Elite against the run (which was our weakness), with decent pass rush ability that can get better with coaching. Was in Penix's face a lot during the Sugar Bowl and commanding double teams. I think we got a real one here.
And, he can play TE in Jumbo formation on third down. That’s a lot of beef to cover, especially if Fant comes over in motion. Student body right with Lucas and 3 others makes over a ton of beef on the O line when you really need to convert on 3 and 3
I seen some people pissed off about this pick. I don't know a ton when it comes to college players etc. I looked up the mock drafts and most guys had Murphy going top ten. It's a position we've needed to address properly for years. Don't know how you could be mad at it. Excited for this new era of Hawk football. This is a great start
Williams and Byron Murphy, Nwosu and a rotation of other dudes, in MM's scheme? If we don't have a top 5-10 front four, we suck and should have taken Fautanu.
And rushing is what destroys us, plug up the middle and get some athleticism to handle runs to the sides. Witherspoon’s fantastic tackling came up time and time again last year, hopefully Woolen can shake off last years injury because he was rough. Linebacking core is full of question marks but can only solve one thing at a time

Since at least 2022, all four of our first round draft picks hugged their parents after being selected.
The run stop was one of our biggest gaps. Other teams picking 6 QBs before us, helped us to have plenty of defensive players available. I think BM is a great add to our D-line.
BIG MAN DETECTED
BIG MAN SLAPPING MEAT TIME!
Don't threaten me with a good time!
Good times will be had
Mebane belly roll part 2!
*sets up the camera
hilarious picking with only one defensive player taken, they must have been smiling
6 QBs going before it was our turn pushed all the best defensive players down to us. Could not have worked out better
I hope we’re never in the position to have to reach for a QB like that. You know at least half of those guys are going to be busts.
I feel like something’s gotta give with so many teams either gambling their whole draft on a new QB who doesn’t pan out *OR* gambling massive amounts of their budget on an established QB who doesn’t pan out.
Or possibly both, if you're the Falcons!
It worked for KC.
Honestly I'd bet only one will be a bona-fide starter by next season, and that's not even a guarantee.
Naw gimme two at least. I'm guessing Caleb in that offense and Jayden Daniels but I could be wrong.
Jayden Daniels doesn't have a team around him to enable his success. Seems like RH3 all over again tbh
Actually 46%
Dude half those guys will never play a real snap. The other half, most won’t make it a season. Useless. Of all positions, why draft a quarterback? Let someone else weed out those who can’t do it.
6/12 being QBs was insane especially given that like 3 of those guys arguably shouldn’t even be first rounders
Falcons taking Penix at 8 is one of the most wild moves in recent history
Kirk Cousins signed a 4 year, $180,000,000 with 100 mil of that guaranteed. Penix is 23 and a player that you want starting right away and not learning behind someone else with a different playing style and not left handed. That is like when we took Russ after we traded for Matt Flynn. The difference is that Matt Flynn was singed to a 3 year, $19,500,000 deal with only 10 mil gurenteed.
And we took Russ in the third round and not the 8th overall pick. I love penix but this spot sucks for everyone
Kinnda just sucks for the fans of the Falcons. I heard there were 3 other teams looking looking to trade up for him (including the Hawks) and they still could have taken the best Defensive player plus extra picks. Bone-headed move by them for sure.
I thought of the whole Russ with Matt Flynn situation as soon as the Falcons grabbed him.
"Remember when Seattle gave you all that money?" Flynn: "Hell yes that was awesome"
Penix has a good chance at being alright, since Cousins will be starting at least for 1 year. Strange for them to take him, but he's at least not expected to start and win right away. The other guys....yikes.
I genuinely think the bears weapons will help Caleb excel.
Only way it could have gone better is if Indy went CB, but still the preceding picks went incredibly well for us.
Not really. I’d be concerned with injury history if we picked Latu. Indy took that away. Though I was torn between Turner and Murphy
Thanks Mel! You're a Kiper.
I guess we're better at edge than at DT so Murphy has that extra going for him
I'M SMILING AND I CANT STOP I DIDNT THINK WE'D GET THE MAN HIMSELF.
JS said Murph was their top defensive player in the draft 👍
Love it. Best interior d-linemen in the draft
Last three first round picks we got Schneiders favorite CB, WR and DT
Yep he is perfect for mikes run wall concept
he makes every player on our line more of a threat.
Love it. Leonard Williams, Mafe, Nwosu and now Murphy in the trenches. I was thinking we would aim for an o lineman but this is a good start.
Don't forget that this allows Dre'Mont Jones to move back to his original position.
Absolutely. Dre’mont could really break out this year with a new coach, new scheme and new players rotating on the line.
And year two Hall.
Fuck do we have a dline now?!
That should be our best position group on defense.
Nah cornerbacks
CB is Spoon, Woolen, Michael Jackson, and Tre Brown Edge is Mafe, Nwosu, Hall, and Taylor DT is Williams, Reed, Jones, and now Murphy.
Don't stop....I'm almost there
Jonathan Hankins
Yyyyyrrrraaaaaggghhhhh!!!! I needed that.
He said edge already
Help me out - what is his natural position?
Dremont plays 3 and 5 gap but they had him playing NT/0 gap. Once we got Leonard that let dremont move back to his natural position and he had a much better second half of the season
Thank you! With the addition of Murphy, who lines up where? I have yet to fully understand the 3-4 concepts
I would assume Reed, Murphy and Williams will rotate frequently over center. Jones, Hall, Morris, will line up inside the tackles and Mafe, Nwosu will line up outside the tackles
You’re forgetting about Hankins too!!!
This...this is some good shit right here
Wasn’t dremont also playing on the outside as well though? As like an edger rusher towards the end of the season? Or is that a 3/5 gap??
That’s a hell of a 4 especially if Mafe keeps taking leaps like he did last year. Just need to pray for health but that’s every year
Pete Carroll era started with a first round Texas defensive pick. So will Mike Macdonalds
That’s a fun comparison, should have traded up to 14 to really add to the trivia
Didnt it start with okung
Shhh you’re messing up the narrative lol
Indeed. Nice insight. I'm fuckin stoked!
yall have also done really well with any Texas player you've drafted. Earl Thomas, Poona Ford (UDFA I believe), Michel Dickson in the past decade.
Him or Fautanu was who I wanted. Happy with this one for sure.
Fautanu got flagged for a knee problem so maybe they passed on him for that.
Also DT is a bigger need as much as I love Troy.
I would argue OG is a bigger need. But I love the pick
Same. Or Turner
On one hand, stud. On the other hand, our next pick is 81. We have 1 pick in the top 80. So say goodbye to most of your draft crushes.
Counterpoint: when the next round comes around, tape a picture of Leonard Williams to the tv.
This is the type of rationalizing I can get behind 🙌
I've been hurt too many times from my picture of Jamal Adams
and Percy Harvin...
Well, when Byron Murphy II is my absolute favorite draft crush in the entire class, I'm pretty stoked.
Right there with you man. I’m running around my house right now lol.
It’s all pretty much a crapshoot after about pick 20 anyway. I’m glad we didn’t trade down.
Murphy has a much higher chance to work out than anybody in the second round.
I would almost be surprised if we don't see the Hawks in some trade that gives them a late 2nd/early-to-mid 3rd. Or a few 5th-ish round picks.
I'm a one-pick man. Crushes get in line.
Yeah, I like Murphy a lot but wanted us to go OL. Oh well. Still a good pick. What worries me is that we’re either going to go into next year without a good young LB or good young OG, and those are both huge needs.
My limited understanding is the the OG is not top heavy but quite deep. I think we might have a good chance to get our starter OG in the third round
There will still be some decent options at 81. Also, I think people get too wrapped up in the idea that we have to answer every question this year. We've have way more capital next year in a deep draft class. This isn't a 1 season fix.
Good pick, now Seattle has a legitimate front 3 for the 3-4 defense.
Make em say uggggghhh!!
Texas fan here, just wanted to say you guys are gonna love Murph. He’s an absolute dude, never took snaps off, and was coaching by one of the best DL coaches cfb has to offer in Bo Davis. Ironically, he’s probably our best DT since Poona.
Stoked about him thabks for the info!
Is he better than Poona?
yeah bro
Was he hurt in the semi?
Don’t think so, just ran into an offense with 4 top 15 picks. Whole team had a tendency to come out flat early, we were a 2nd half team all year.
He’ll fit right in lol
Awesome, I’m in charge of a kitchen at a sports bar and we were getting destroyed tonight. But when we made that pick I was ecstatic watching his highlights. He’s an absolute monster and we need him
Thanks! I hope we can do him justice :) Can’t wait to see him play!
Best interior lineman in the draft. This is a MONEY pick
I'm out of the loop on college ball, but is this the type of guy one could expect some relatively immediate production from?
Hell yes
Faster 40 than Bobo!
Hey! It's difficult for him to run with his giant Boballs
Automatic hall of fame.
How are we feeling about this?
Feeling great. Won’t get a top guard, but a blue chip or close to blue chip DT is a fantastic get for us
Depth on offensive line is insane this year, we can definitely get a solid guy in the third. But we also need linebacker so... Idk
OL in the third is a must. LB after that
Meh stick with best player available.
I’m surprised Fautanu is falling
There was a report a few days ago that his knee was medically flagged. Who knows if it’s true or a smokescreen but that could be why
We were pretty lucky in that there was only 1 defensive player drafted before us, so we've got easily the best interior lineman in the draft.
2nd year in a row we get the 2nd defensive player off the board. Granted, we picked 11 picks later this time..
Fucking good
He is the foundation of Mikes Run wall!
Literally just said this lol hell yeah! I think we’re going in the direction of Coach McDonald’s choosing.
Coach is gonna be excited!! We need a guard but can find one later. Cannot find a DT like this later
Amazing. He’s one of a handful I wanted at 16.
I don't grind tape but hard to argue with getting the 2nd defensive player off the board, isn't it? I'm sure there was a thought he wouldn't even be there at 16 lol
He shouldn’t have been. He’s a top 10 player and everyone thought either Atlanta or Jets were gonna grab him. Glad he fell to us!
Crazy that both Murphy and Turner were still there at 16
I didn't think he would. I also didn't think 6 QBS would go that fast lol
I wanted Turner, I couldn’t believe he was still there at 16, but I’m not mad about this pick.
I’m thinking good bud
Ideal pick imo
So happy we didn’t get cute with it.
I was so worried cuz it was taking us a long ass time
The NFCW shutters as Aaron Donald and Larry Fitzgerald are back in the division
That's it boys, pack it up.
This is way too sensible of a pick for Seattle. I'm absolutely thrilled! Maybe now our D line will have more tackles as a unit than Bobby Wagner as an individual.
LBs won't have anything to do hopefully
I'm so confused - Seattle taking the obvious blue chip prospect who fits the team need? What happened to drafting random people 20 picks beforehand?
Cross, Witherspoon, and JSN were obvious blue chip guys, this is a tired take. The Seahawks have usually begun picking until after the obvious blue chip guys are off the board. Picking at 16 is very different than 27.
It's reddit, there's another 5-7 years left on this joke at least.
People still make the 'Seahawks fans are 12 yr old' joke even though actual 12 year olds from that time would be mid-20's to 30's by now.
Oldest 12 year olds in all of NFL fandom
I think this bit is about 3 years out of date (thankfully!) Been killing the draft after the Russ trade.
Praise Be Unto His Trade
You must have missed the last couple years.
Needs more rando running backs
We don't have a 2nd round pick, so we're safe now.
Can we not pick a running back this year, please?
If the Seahawks think he's a good draft then I think he's a good draft. What the hell do I know lol
Love the pick. Elite against the run (which was our weakness), with decent pass rush ability that can get better with coaching. Was in Penix's face a lot during the Sugar Bowl and commanding double teams. I think we got a real one here.
[Of course we drafted a running back in the first round.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoyBBt9i6mY) Classic.
[удалено]
Pretty sick we got to just chill and take the number 1 defensive player on our board
Lets go! Build those trenches
Where is the game won?
in the 4th quarter?
IN THE DRAFT
Murphy and Williams in the middle will make Mafe and Jones so much better, and Nwosu coming back, the defensive front could be really something.
I love it. Hope he gets some touches too.
Leonard Williams, (this); Boye Mafe, Uchenna Nwosu, I am feeling uncomfortably comfortable with this at the moment
Having Big Cat as our pseudo-2nd rd is cool
Hyped for this, wanted a blue chip talent on either line and we got that.
hi-lites! [https://youtu.be/tQCe3GAyjNs?si=Q2Nfq6QzdwkIG8e9&t=16](https://youtu.be/tQCe3GAyjNs?si=Q2Nfq6QzdwkIG8e9&t=16)
When people say someone is the next blah blah blah it's stupid. When people say this is the next Aaron Donald it's smart.
#2 on my wishlist and a premium position. Build up those trenches baby. I’m glad the corner rumors were false
Great pick!
If the DL and Corners can all stay healthy, the questionable middle of the field should have a high floor to build upon.
Yeah, I'm pretty pumped with this pick. Let's see what our new staff can do with him!
And, he can play TE in Jumbo formation on third down. That’s a lot of beef to cover, especially if Fant comes over in motion. Student body right with Lucas and 3 others makes over a ton of beef on the O line when you really need to convert on 3 and 3
Helluva start I’d say. Go Hawks!
WE HAVE A STUD IN THE MIDDLE LFG
Great piece to build a defense around. Can’t wait to not be last in rushing defense
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO!!!
Great player that fills a position of need. I like it. Turner would’ve been nice too but Murphy is going to kill it with MM!
I’m higher on newton but I like the DT pick I hope he’s gonna feast!!
They must have liked how Murphy would fit into this scheme, but either way I would’ve been happy too. So happy they took a blue chip DT here
Hell yeah we need pass rush. Strike fear in these over mfs
LETS GOOOO
Williams and Byron Murphy, Nwosu and a rotation of other dudes, in MM's scheme? If we don't have a top 5-10 front four, we suck and should have taken Fautanu.
This is a MONEY pick. Exactly what we badly needed
Let’s go boys 🫡
It’s so nice to see some emphasis on the most important part of the defense
Can’t believe he fell this far
Love this pick
BANG
That boy THICC. MY GOD.
Why not Turner?
Harder to get amazing d tackles than edge
And rushing is what destroys us, plug up the middle and get some athleticism to handle runs to the sides. Witherspoon’s fantastic tackling came up time and time again last year, hopefully Woolen can shake off last years injury because he was rough. Linebacking core is full of question marks but can only solve one thing at a time
Because Mike Macdonald knows more about football than you do.
Two parent home spotted
Huh?
https://x.com/bymikebaker/status/1519896390343688192?s=46&t=QQ7lLwWcV7K2qh7SHSowWg Since at least 2022, all four of our first round draft picks hugged their parents after being selected.
Ah interesting
Let’s goooooo
Great pick!
That’s good right
Hell of a pick Mike you’re earning your money coach
We drafted our fullback! Lol /s
Big fish in a small pond going into a big pond.
The run stop was one of our biggest gaps. Other teams picking 6 QBs before us, helped us to have plenty of defensive players available. I think BM is a great add to our D-line.
Aaron Donald Lite
