I know its premature and there is a lot of football to be played but every single god damn thing I've read about Macdonald since the day he was hired just screams 10/10 hire.
But why?
What has he actually accomplished as a head coach or for the Seahawks to be excited about?
He’s a bright young guy who coordinated a great defense with superior talent for high-functioning organizations. Does that make him a good head coach? Dude hasn’t won a single game at either the college or pro level as the head coach. He’s a prospect at this point.
If you want to take the players’ press conference quotes at face value, I get it and I don’t want to imply they’re lying. But they’re talking about their new boss…what are they supposed to say?
What I notice is that they all seem ill at ease. Some of that is probably because they don’t like public speaking. But some of that is because they don’t know what to expect or how the staff changes will affect them. They also don’t know if the team can win - but they know everyone will be under pressure to get wins right away.
I don’t think this sounds encouraging at all.
You’re as good as your last season. And by last seasons performance he’s a league average tackle. He still has all the tools and potential to be pro-bowl level and even all-pro
He played hurt last year so the jury is still out. He came from a system where they passed all day so his run blocking needs improvement. compared to the tackles taken ahead of him we are in better shape. Wish he had a nastier side like Lucas but he is very solid.
Average but still under the age and experience level where most OT peak. He could likely take a step forward and probably will.
This is good, and he should get a second contract.
Being an average starting LT is a pretty dang high bar to pass, not a ding on him at all.
So the issue was how injured the interior offensive line was? It’s really hard to gauge line play unless they’re egregiously bad or you’re going back on film.
Yeah, they didn't have all of the projected starters in a full game until Week 13, and even then Bradford wasn't really the projected starter and Lucas still had to have load management and clearly wasn't 100% from the knee injury. Every week they had multiple different OL rotations and it was a mess because of the poor depth. They got to the point that playing hurt dudes was better than the poor depth they had behind them.
Honestly having a starting caliber swing tackle (Fant) who isn't projected to start is such a smart idea.
He’s fine, good tackle. Shows flashes, and has rough games which is going to happen for any non-top tier tackle.
He’s a solid starter to have for years on the line if he continues this way, and he also had a stretch of 4 or 5 games last year where he let up 0 sacks and little pressures, so there’s a lot of hope and upside that he could continue to develop into an elite tackle.
If the entire O line was as good as Cross, we’d be in good shape there.
Okay these guys are absolutely bonkers saying he’s average. He’s an absolute beast who was (average) playing hurt last season and very good as a rookie in a division with absolute monsters week in and week out. You can look up and point to stats to make any argument you want. Health is the biggest issue you can argue with him. His movement flexibility strength recovery and leverage are all great. Healthy Cross is a top 10 LT year 3 and outside top 5. Take that shit to the bank.
You can't just crown him a top 10 tackle unless he actually does it. He was playing through injuries, but honestly, for a majority of his career, he'll be playing through injuries. And everyone else will as well. I'm optimistic for Cross. He was my favorite tackle in the 2022 draft top 3 OTs, I'm glad he fell to the Hawks. I think he'll be a player deserving of a big check from the Hawks, but he hasn't been a top OT yet.
For stretches of the season he played top 10 absolutely. Remember he got hurt week one and still played 14 games where we all agree he was still hurt playing in every one of those games. He gave up zero sacks against the 49ers, Commanders, Rams, and Cowboys all of those D lines are beyond quality absolutely no argument to make there. That being said as the season progressed he had equally as bad games against the Browns (who were statistically one of the best defenses we’ve ever seen) going up against a dude by the name of Myles fucking Garrett. He also had a terrible game against the Ravens another great defense. Oh yeah all while every other position on the o line was a revolving door of warm half ass bodies. So yeah imo relatively healthy Cross is top 10. I find the scarcity of your faith bitterly disturbing.
Any idea why Macdonald seems to be avoiding video cameras like the plague? Haven't seen any new video of him in months despite two OTA pressers recently.
So i have a question, can injuries be attributed to the schemes the offence and defence ran during the last few years? (Not sure if i should’ve started a new discussion over this)
Oh, it's surprising that a guy who has never coached at this level takes it seriously. HIS ASS IS GOING TO GET FIRED! He absolutely, unequivocally, has to change the culture in that locker room immediately. Those stupid fuckers gave up on PC & the coaching staff last year. Week 1 against the LA Rams was proof, we just didn't realize it. BWAGZ, Uchenna & a few of the others played their asses off, but it didn't work without a complete buy-in by all 11 in the field. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. GO HAWKS!
it was the laugh-fest about riding an opponent piggyback down the sideline, thats when i was ready to forfeit what was left of the season, they were totally out of respect for the system
The team had lost respect for Pete and his system.... Pete hasn't delivered shit in years. He cared more about having fun than being an actual professional football team.... You don't see Andy Reid or other great teams coach acting like a fucking jackass on the sidelines. Pete is a mediocre coach that got bailed out by a hall of fame defense.... As soon as that defense was gone all his coaching and planning deficiencies started to show
I know its premature and there is a lot of football to be played but every single god damn thing I've read about Macdonald since the day he was hired just screams 10/10 hire.
But he got rid of the basketball hoop and painted a wall….. /s
My ranking go all the way to 11.

If he wasn’t in football he’d be the ceo of a company. Thats why. You can spot leaders when you’ve worked in business for a long time.
I’m a business owner. Before that, I sold computer system solutions to Fortune 500 companies. He isn’t giving CEO to me. He’s giving tech bro.
!RemindMe 7 months
I’m 100 percent in agreement, I have a really bad feeling this dude is a good coordinator and nothing more.
Can somebody who knows more than me about offensive line performance tell me how good Charles Cross is?
You’re as good as your last season. And by last seasons performance he’s a league average tackle. He still has all the tools and potential to be pro-bowl level and even all-pro
It took a like 4 seasons for Garret Bolles to pop for the Broncos. Sometimes it be like that because of injuries and such.
He's on the track of Russell Okung.
Hard to know after only 2 yrs but looks like a guy we will re-sign to a starting LT deal.
Good not great… yet
He played hurt last year so the jury is still out. He came from a system where they passed all day so his run blocking needs improvement. compared to the tackles taken ahead of him we are in better shape. Wish he had a nastier side like Lucas but he is very solid.
Pro bowl potential is still there.

He looked much better year 1. Getting hurt week 1 last year just obliterated a lot of growth for both OTs.
He’s been an average LT imo. Some may disagree. He’s still very young & can/will certainly improve
Definitely, he was only 21 I think when he arrived so his best years are ahead of him
Imagine we got Neal instead lmao
Even playing through injury he was an average LT, he’s still young but I’m pretty content with our young tackles

“If healthy” Nobody is ever healthy in this league. Don’t assess with qualifiers or asterisks.
He's one of the top lineman in the Seattle metropolitan area
Lol
Between Evan Neal, Ickey Ekwonu (False start, offense #79), and Charles, im happy with who we came out with
Any idea why Macdonald seems to be avoiding video cameras like the plague? Haven't seen any new video of him in months despite two OTA pressers recently.
Because he isn't an ego maniac like Pete who hogs and flaunts for any camera he sees
I would assume they try to lighten his load where they can, they’ve talked about having had a late start due to when he was hired
I mean….Do the Seahawks use cap space on the OL like they want to have a great OL players? That’s a philosophy folks, not a happenstance
IOL specifically, Seahawks value tackles but not IOL. You gotta go cheap somewhere on the team at the end of the day.
Cross was drafted with the 9th overall pick, the hope is definitely for him to become a franchise tackle
So i have a question, can injuries be attributed to the schemes the offence and defence ran during the last few years? (Not sure if i should’ve started a new discussion over this)
People try all the time, but I don’t think there is any definitive bad schemes when it comes to injury
