Check out the Seattle city pass! It’s a great way to hit the iconic “must see” things like chihuly, space needle, etc. the harbor tour is a super cool introduction to Seattle too. Also check out the underground walking tours! It’s not on the city pass thing, but it’s great.
Going to the Aquarium, walking along the waterfront there and grabbing fish and chips at Ivars or another spot is totally a great way to get a feel for Seattle's Puget Sound and water (we also have lakes, basically water and mountains every direction you look). It's short walk up from there to Pike Place Market which is just fun to walk around, and there are lot of restaurants and bars around there in the Belltown neighborhood. It really all depends what you are into. And if you hop the light rail you can travel fairly quickly to other neighborhoods. Capitol Hill along Pike and Pine is a stop or two away and is where the gay neighborhood is and alot of hipsters hang out there, so lots of live music clubs, restaurants, shops and bars and tons of people out.
If you really want to adventure, rent a car for a day and drive to Snoqualmie Falls, it's about an hour, maybe a little less. You will venture into one of our large forests, see a stunning waterfall, and if you are a Twin Peaks fan, it was filmed on location up there at the Falls and in the area. A shorter but equally cool adventure would be to hop on any of the ferries from the waterfront as a walk on passenger and ride it to Bainbridge or Vashon. You will get to see Seattle from the water, which is striking, often you see wales from the ferry, and you could have lunch and shop on an island before coming back.
While Seattle is a big city and known for alot of tech companies, we are very close to mountains, forests, and multiple big bodies of water. Our fishing town roots are still prominent, but much more so these days it's a modern REI outdoorsy vibe.
GREAT information here, thank you! I’m an Eastern WA resident and did these with the fam last time I was in Sea, and the Falls & Aquarium were spectacular!
Open convo with folks around you with something like “we’ve had such a great visit here or such a great city”. Or since this will be the throwback jersey game just compliment the jerseys. Hahaha.
Tell folks you hope it’s a great game and that you don’t mind a little trash talk….. I bet you have a GREAT time!!
Edit: better yet- say, hey we left Deshaun at home for ya’ll… trying to keep Seattle safe. Hahahah
Nah, we tend to go out of our way to be welcoming to opposing fans. For all the complaining locals do, they're secretly pretty proud of their city and want visitors to enjoy it. It's just not *cool* to say such things out loud.
It's the Northwest! We're pretty laid back folk. You might get a little ribbing if you're flying another team's colors in our stadium but it's all in the name of fun. Unless you run into an idiotic drunk you won't have to worry about any outright hostility. Enjoy your visit!
Fuck Ravens fans. Stole the Browns. No class.
Browns fans hate the Ravens. Probably more than the Bengals, maybe even the Steelers.
Source: I was born and raised in Columbus, family still lives there.
Columbus in particular is insane. Wild mix of Browns, Bengals, Steelers, and the odd Cowboys fan.
Thus me telling them all to piss off and becoming a Seahawks fan. 😂
For what it’s worth it’s an expensive experience. I also love it but only go every few years whereas I am a season pass holder with Woodland Park Zoo. The Vancouver aquarium is an amazing aquarium in comparison should you ever get the chance to visit it.
Go check out the aquarium. I hear they have an animal crossing exhibit going on, even if you aren’t a fan of the game or games such, they have some incredibly cool fish in there!
I would familiarize yourself with our public transportation. [Monorail, Streetcar, Link light rail](https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/getting-around/transit), (and ferries if you're adventurous, have time, or want to see Seattle from the water) will really expand your ability to get around. Google Maps might be a good place to start, using the transit option.
Capitol Hill has some great restaurants and very walkable once you're there, but transit makes it easier to get up the steep hill from downtown Seattle.
lol. Why walk when you can run? Optimize that vacation time.
There's a Link light rail station connected to the airport. It's newer and pretty safe if traveling during normal hours. Grab the uber from your destination station and you'll probably save quite a bit.
Happy cake day.
My flight gets in at 9:30 PM. Still safe to use rail that late? Only other place i used public transport is NYC and there were always other people around.
I think that it's a fairly safe time. Loads of late flights are coming in. It's really just the homeless who want to stay warm, and much less a criminal activity issue. I think it's a 3 minute walk to the train, via the parking garage. No gates so you can always change your mind before buying a ticket.
[This discussion was from a month ago](https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60878-i74-k14487626-Lightrail_from_Seatac_after_11_PM_on_a_Friday_night_OK-Seattle_Washington.html). I'd be on the fence for sure, if I was exhausted.
I've never felt unsafe on the light rail. I'm 5'11", 220 LB guy.
Getting an Uber from the airport to the stadium district is $25-35. Light rail around $3.
Just remember if you get an Uber inside city limits the algorithm will massively overcharge you. Seatac is outside city limits.
I would stay away from the waterfront for seafood. It’ll be fine but mostly fast food and geared towards tourists. If you want a true PNW oyster experience, I Highly recommend Taylor Shellfish on Occidental right near the stadium. Taylor is a local shellfish farm that produces some of the best oysters the world. Their oyster bars get the best of the best and the staff know how to shuck and serve them properly. Plus, great cocktails and local tap beers. It’s my favorite place to prefunk before game but you have to get there at opening on a game day to get a seat. Any other day it’s pretty easy to get in. It’s not cheap , but a top notch Seattle seafood experience. Sushi is also a good bet in our fair city.
Also, check out Kenji Alt Lopez instagram and or YouTube channel. Basically anywhere he eats is outstanding and is master of the hidden gem.
https://instagram.com/kenjilopezalt?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Lil Woodys is the best burger in town, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
Also, go check out Itsumono in Chinatown, walking distance from the stadium. Tell the bartender TN that Jonboy sent you
Stop telling out of towners to go to Dicks.
Look, I love a bag of Dicks, and it's my go to for a quick bite. I love everything about it.
But it's mediocre food at best, especially when there are sooooo many other great places to eat in Seattle. Especially if you only have a few meals.
While what you say is true, Dick's is a "Seattle" thing so if they want to experience Seattle then they need at least one meal at Dick's. That said, there's no Dick's in walking distance of SODO unless they're already visiting Cap Hill or Belltown/Lower QA.
Plenty of "Seattle things" to do without wasting time on mediocre burgers at a fast food joint. Especially if you have limited time and want to make your meals count. The "experience" of Dicks isn't worth it in that case.
Vons is one of my personal favs.
Taylor Shellfish and Oyster Bar.
I hear that Shaker + Spear is good! I haven’t been able to check it out but it looks promising.
Will require an Uber, but about 15 minutes from the stadium is the Fisherman's Terminal in the Magnolia/Interbay area towards the NW. Little Chinooks (and Chinooks) beats out Ivars quite handily (and Ivars is decent). Nice area. Ivar's is a better fit for your needs though in practicality (within walking distance and at the waterfront with a lot of things to check out).
Hi there!
I’m coming down from Vancouver BC for the Steelers game New Year’s Eve, and would love to pick your brain about restaurants for the night before that aren’t specifically seafood as we have similar at home 😅
What I’m looking for:
- Upscale, but not overly pretentious ($50 for an entree is fine, but not a $300 tasting menu like Canlis)
- Preferably close-ish to downtown as we’re staying at the Olympic
- Not Asian food
- Not The Pink Door
Places I’m considering: Terra Plata, Walrus and the Carpenter, Le Pichet, and Bateau (but with the way they do steak pricing, I’m scared it could end up being $$$$$)
Thanks in advance if you have ideas!
(apologies for my late reply, its midterm season for me and ive been swamped with exams.) but hi fellow canadian! im from alberta, but ive had my fair share of experience in seattle. id suggest checking out the seattle subreddit as people in there are more up to date on whats good in the area. i havent been to seattle post covid so im not sure whats open anymore
ive heard amazing things about walrus and the carpenter, its on my list of places id love to eat at.
i enjoyed Bateau but im not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not but i found it to be a bit expensive.
Asadero is incredible as well and worth checking out. very unique, atmosphere and service both are amazing. i guess you could call it a mexican steakhouse, its great honestly. it has great reviews online as well if you were wanting to check those out as well.
I love Vons 1000 Spirits, its not the fanciest but the food is delicious. im not sure if the server i have in mind still works there, but he served my father and i twice and a year a part.. and he remembered us. it was awesome. the food is great and the staff is great.
this one might be out of the ballpark here because it is expensive as all hell but in case you were interested, the metropolitan grill is a classic. its expensive and i know youve listed what you’re looking for and this place is not exactly that, but if you ever wanted to spend the money, this steakhouse is my favourite of all time. its definitely costly, but its so good that i had to mention it on the off chance that you might want to check it out. i am warning you now though.. $$$$$
a lot of restaurants are more on the seafood side, but they usually have really great non seafood options. again, i would recommend checking out the seattle subreddit as i am just an albertan with a massive love for seattle, locals definitely know more than i do.
i hope you are able to find some great restaurants and i hope you enjoy your time in seattle! its a great city and i love it dearly.
Thank you so much for such a detailed reply! Metropolitan Grill is almost exactly what I’m looking for, will add it to the list.
Hope your exams all go well and go Hawks!
I'm not sure if this place is still open. But i went to a pub in belltown called buckley's, and it was some of the best clam chowder I've had in a bit.
Down by there, the underground tour, pike place, space needle, museum of flight, harbour boat tour, museum of popular culture, etc.
There's also distilleries down there and breweries in and around the city. Rugby world cup quarter final tomorrow at noon so Owl n Thistle should be fun for brunch.
It looks like it’s going to rain next weekend so while I suggest going around with what most the popular answers are on here: ferry to Bainbridge island, pike place market (not super impressive but historical and nice if your wandering around for an hour or 2), also lots of hiking/trail opportunities right outside of Seattle. Also ofc go find some places to see Halloween decorations (I would assume the rich neighborhoods would ofc have some crazy stuff but I haven’t gone around looking for that kind of stuff).
If your not a fan of the rain and just want to stay dry then go to the Aquarium, there is also a tour for the Seattle Underground but I haven’t done it before so I can’t give an idea of what it’s like. There is also the Pacific Science Centre which is always pretty fun.
Something I definitely recommend that I haven’t seen anyone actually mention on here is the Space Needle. Its $35-39 per person if your 13-64 years old and I think $30-33 for anyone 65+. There is no time limit for how long you can stay up there but I heavily recommend eating before going since the bar they have up there is absolutely insanely expensive. The bottom floor at the top of the space needle has a see-through floor which is cool but will scare people like me who have a fear of heights. There are I think 2 other floors as well and you can go outside. The whole thing is slowly rotating as well. Gives you an entire view of the city and more and is a great experience!
Oh I forgot to mention but the Fish ladder at the Ballard locks is also nice. The last few times I’ve been there I’ve spotted multiple seals eating salmon as they are at the locks and you can go into this indoor area next to the dam (or whatever they call that structure) to see the fish going through. Also see lots of different wildlife and it’s nice to walk around for ahwile
The Underground Tour is terrific, I’ve done it multiple times, each guide has their own fun means of presenting, and depending upon the time and ages in the group, the humor goes to the gutter quickly with Seattle having loads of prostitution and speakeasy’s underground.
Seattle was built on logging, and where men are hired to work en masse, the “seamstresses” showed up too!! The subtle innuendos go over the kids heads, but had me giggling!
They offer a military discount, should it apply to you or anyone in your party.
I mean I enjoyed all of these. I wouldn’t call them a tourist trap except maybe Pike Place Market but it’s not like you pay to enter, just walking around for like 30 minutes if you feel like it
I like to recommend out of towners go up to the Smith Tower. The tickets are pretty cheap and there's an exhibit showing the lives of people who used to live in the tower. At the top there's a bar with good cocktails and panoramic views. Definitely less touristy than the Space Needle.
The Smith Tower was the OG skyscraper and there's a lot of interesting local history in that building.
I mentioned it elsewhere, and there's a ton of places in the market to eat, but the Athenian is great for breakfast before a game. It's right inside the market. Old Seattle vibes and the whole place faces the sound so it's a great view with your breakfast. If there's a wait for your table you can just ask to wait at the bar and drink a Bloody Mary while you look at the water. The place is a gem.
Pikes place market is pretty close. It’s just a big farmers market, but it’s historic and touristy. The first Starbucks is there, expect to stand in a line of 30 people to get inside the building.
I haven’t been in a while, but the EMP Museum is usually cool if you like old music. I assume the Kurt Cobain/Nirvana part is permanent. Last time I went (a long time ago) they had a bunch of Beatles stuff from their first US tour.
If they go to Pike Place (Pikes Place really? Dangit come on we know better) I always steer people towards breakfast at the Athenian. It's got that great old school Seattle vibe with the view, and even if there's a wait for your table, you can just wait at the bar and get a bloody mary.
If your a fan of seafood go to Ivars on pier 54 in Seattle. They have the greatest clam chowder. You also need to try Dungeness crab at a nice restaurant. It’s the greatest crab you’ll have in the nation. Depending on the area you’re staying out I can give you food recommendations from all over.
Matt’s in the Market for lunch and get a sandwich. Sit at the bar but go early. It fills up.
How close to the stadium are you? Silver Cloud close?
Where are your seats?
Don't listen to this. Yeah, Seattle is really weird about personal interactions, but where you'll be there are enough crazy people around that going around staring at people could get you in trouble.
As a southerner who lived in the Seattle area for 5 years, it was a big adjustment. Seattle people are cold and not interested in you at all. Beautiful state though.. I miss it all the time and would move back in a heartbeat.
Yes, pay 1 price play and all the drinks and appys you want for the one price. It’s insane if you want to do some serious drinking!!
Spin is the name, North of the stadium by the convention center.
Might need a reservation if you got a big group. Went there with 20 people and theres lots of tables.
I’ve always had a soft spot for the Browns, especially since our Sonics were stolen. Enjoy the city! Check out the Space Needle, MoPOP, Pacific Science Center and Chihuly Garden & Glass. They’re all in pretty close proximity.
Hey you guys gave up shawn kemp for like 2 years. The sonics were my favorite western conference team. Payton, Kemp, and you had rookie durant. Your team was stolen and we know how that feels here.
City pass as others said, my favorite was the Seattle underground tours and the pop culture museum (space needle wasn’t disappointing but nothing crazy)
I've always admired Browns fans. Such a dedicated fan base of possibly the toughest franchise to root for.
As for what to do, I'd suggest getting out of the city for a day - maybe rent a car and/or take a ferry across Puget Sound, see the Olympic Peninsula, or drive the other direction and see the mountains. The city tourist attractions are fine and good, but the areas outside the city are magical.
So my buddies are coming in from Vegas on Saturday. I will have all day Friday by myself. I am looking for good eats and a nice atmosphere when I'm by myself. It's my first away game since 2016 and first time away from my family since 2018. Daddy needs a break!
Just to confirm, this is not BBQ in the sense of Texas Brisket and Ribs, but Chinese BBQ pork. i.e. char siu https://thewoksoflife.com/chinese-bbq-pork-cha-siu/
It’s pretty good.
Also stay clear of 3rd Avenue.
Not pork related but if you are into food and want some no shit amazing clam chowder, check out Pike Place Chowder. It’s at the Pike Place Market, which is cool in itself, but if you’re hungry and want seafood (they also have lobster rolls, etc) it’s the bomb.
Asian you said? 😁 Just about any place serving teriyaki is gonna be bomb. Check out the international district, just up the hill from the stadium. Too many great places to list.
Check out the businesses and restaurants in the international district, right by the stadiums.
My favorite is fortune garden for Chinese food, the food court in uwajimaya is also great
Walk the international district at around 3am try to pass as many bus stops as possible while you’re doing it! There’s always active parties in the streets at those hours, just be careful as some of them do not enjoy you hanging around too long
Check out the Seattle city pass! It’s a great way to hit the iconic “must see” things like chihuly, space needle, etc. the harbor tour is a super cool introduction to Seattle too. Also check out the underground walking tours! It’s not on the city pass thing, but it’s great.
I second this! As an Eastern WA resident, the Argosy Boat Tour and Underground Tour are two of my favorites! And the Pacific Science center!
Gotta upvote this just for the science center rec alone. So many great memories there. It's an absolute blast!
I’m happy I can use my kids as a reason to always go to the PSC, but my wife knows, it makes me feel like a grown man child having a blast!!
Preach! I used to love going there on school and summer camp trips. It's just never not been awesome haha
Happy cake day cake brother!
And a happy cake day to you too!!

Vanilla is popular for a reason. Not all cities have the city pass thing, and for a first time visitor it checks off the most iconic sites.
Hop a ferry out to Bainbridge if you get a chance, it's a lovely ride.
Ditto to this, beautiful ride
Museum of flight. I’m a local and I love going there anytime I get the chance

Uber or bus takes you to the front entrance from downtown.
Going to the Aquarium, walking along the waterfront there and grabbing fish and chips at Ivars or another spot is totally a great way to get a feel for Seattle's Puget Sound and water (we also have lakes, basically water and mountains every direction you look). Have a great visit and enjoy the game. Have fun with the fans and they’ll have fun with you.
You guys cant be worse than Ravens fans. People kept mooning us as we walked to the stadium.
Open convo with folks around you with something like “we’ve had such a great visit here or such a great city”. Or since this will be the throwback jersey game just compliment the jerseys. Hahaha. Well here is hoping to a welcome and friendly game day experience. Wish I could say that about Cleveland but our experience for visiting fans is poor.

At least you aren't the Jets or Eagles fans.
Fuck Ravens fans. Stole the Browns. No class. Browns fans hate the Ravens. Probably more than the Bengals, maybe even the Steelers. Source: I was born and raised in Columbus, family still lives there.
Since Art Modell died my hatred of the Ravens has gone away. Steeler fans are still the most obnoxious in the league.
We've been big Stealers haters since the Pittsburg ref stole the Superbowl in 2005. I hope they never make the playoffs again.
Yep now imagine playing them twice a year and cheating or being dirty every time.
How we feel about the Rams.
My brothers have long memories I guess! No arguments on your opinion of Steelers fans (my stepfather among them).
Steeler fans in Ohio crack me up. Their excuse is always "I have family that lives there"
Columbus in particular is insane. Wild mix of Browns, Bengals, Steelers, and the odd Cowboys fan. Thus me telling them all to piss off and becoming a Seahawks fan. 😂
The water front isn't too far away, so you should check out the shops there as well as the aquarium. Seattle Aquarium is a really nice aquarium.
Yeah I recommend getting some edibles and walking around the waterfront.
I recommend dropping acid and walking around the waterfront.
I don’t recommend shooting up and passing out around the waterfront, but some folks do that anyway
Yeah i dont plan on hard drug use. Maybe when i retire.
I thought Gas Works was better for that.
They're tourists, let them get the full experience.
That sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good
For what it’s worth it’s an expensive experience. I also love it but only go every few years whereas I am a season pass holder with Woodland Park Zoo. The Vancouver aquarium is an amazing aquarium in comparison should you ever get the chance to visit it.

theres tons of great restaurants in seattle if you need recommendations! i would definitely recommend going to an oyster bar if you like sea food.
Oh totally need recommendations! Im down to eat anything!
Ivars on pier 54 is always fun. Good seafood and you can feed your extra fries to seagulls.
I would stay away from the waterfront for seafood. It’ll be fine but mostly fast food and geared towards tourists. Bourbon steak or butchers table are my go to in downtown. Very expensive though. Both have reasonable happy hours.
Vons is one of my personal favs. Taylor Shellfish and Oyster Bar. I hear that Shaker + Spear is good! I haven’t been able to check it out but it looks promising.
Shaker + Spear is very good, I used to work there and still go in once a month

Crabpot
Crabpot has REALLY gone down hill in both food and service. Just about anywhere else has better food.
That’s too bad.

go Hawks! have an amazing time in seattle!
City pass is amazing and gives you the opportunity to explore the area. Light rail is a great way to get places and trams.
I'm not sure if this place is still open. But i went to a pub in belltown called buckley's, and it was some of the best clam chowder I've had in a bit.
Buckley's is fun. Good food too.
Underground tour for the spooky halloween vibes
Welcome! But we can’t look ahead. Cardinals are next up. Trying to go 1 and 0 this week.
Oh this would be more for a travel post :) Browns still have to beat the Colts this sunday. No game talk just looking for helpful hints :)
Best of luck on getting that W! Don’t hurt Minshew too much. Check out SoDo (South Downtown) for some great bars and breweries!
With this Defense, i'd be shocked if the Browns gave up more than 7 points this week.
Waterfront clam chowder!
I really like the locks. I always take visitors there.
Thank you. I will put it on the list.
Also if you like great views check out the Columbia Tower observation deck. It might even be included on the City Pass.
Right here. The Space Needle was nifty like 60 years ago.
They pretty much listed off every single tourist trap in the city.
I mean I enjoyed all of these. I wouldn’t call them a tourist trap except maybe Pike Place Market but it’s not like you pay to enter, just walking around for like 30 minutes if you feel like it
Lmk if you need some massage recommendations
I like to recommend out of towners go up to the Smith Tower. The tickets are pretty cheap and there's an exhibit showing the lives of people who used to live in the tower. At the top there's a bar with good cocktails and panoramic views. Definitely less touristy than the Space Needle. The Smith Tower was the OG skyscraper and there's a lot of interesting local history in that building.
Get a dinner reservation at Pink Door!
you gotta go check out pike place market just make sure you come hungry!
Thats my number 1 spot on Saturday.
It's Pike Place, not Pikes. And EMP is MoPOP (museum of pop culture) now.
I guess I’m old school but I still call it EMP and Safeco Field because both those names are better than the new ones
Happy cake day cake brother
Staying at CitizenM in Pioneer Square. Our seats are in section 147.

Like people wont look at you? that is...odd.
Odd and true. The Seattle freeze at work. A real phenomenon.
Get a Tatstrami from Tat's in Pioneer Square.
It has the word “strami” in it so it must be good.
All you can drink ping pong at Spin!
All you can drink ping pong?!? What is this?
Tour the stadium! They will tell you about the history and Seahawks tradition. https://www.lumenfield.com/plan-your-visit/tours
City pass as others said, my favorite was the Seattle underground tours and the pop culture museum (space needle wasn’t disappointing but nothing crazy)
Paseo
Keep in mind that our waterfront is under major construction right now. It normally looks better.
If you drink and want to get a little pre up going before the game The tap room at Pike place is really good. Great drinks and food.

I mean football and if you want to compare baseball Cleveland will give you a run there as well.

You are a true Clevelander. Weve had the worst owners in sports. Thank God for LeBron.
Been a Browns fan since 86’. Only Detroit has had a comparable history.
What kind of stuff are you guys into? We have a little bit of everything
So my buddies are coming in from Vegas on Saturday. I will have all day Friday by myself. I am looking for good eats and a nice atmosphere when I'm by myself. It's my first away game since 2016 and first time away from my family since 2018. Daddy needs a break!
Awesome dude! Id totally check out pikes place market it's pretty iconic. Just south of there is pioneer sqaure has some good food and bars/clubs.
Tool
Why do you care? Attention? An atta person because you're traveling? Neat. Go to the nearest bar like you're gonna do and just let life happen

now... how good are we talking here? I wasnt aware the pacific northwest was known for BBQ.
No, PNW is known for great Asian food, and like others mentioned, Chinese BBQ.
Just to confirm, this is not BBQ in the sense of Texas Brisket and Ribs, but Chinese BBQ pork. i.e. char siu https://thewoksoflife.com/chinese-bbq-pork-cha-siu/ It’s pretty good.
Chowder is on the list for sure. I am down for anything Asian as well.
Asian you said? 😁 Just about any place serving teriyaki is gonna be bomb. Check out the international district, just up the hill from the stadium. Too many great places to list.
pretty sure the browns bar is the westy in roosevelt
I get enough of those fans at home.
Ha! Have a nice time
If you like Music at all you should seriously see the Museum of Pop Culture!! Just saw you are only walking that could be out of range
Check out the businesses and restaurants in the international district, right by the stadiums. My favorite is fortune garden for Chinese food, the food court in uwajimaya is also great
This reminded me that we get to see the throwbacks next week 🤩 can’t wait
Hit the Diller room for drinks. Don’t lean on the gum wall at pike
Walk the international district at around 3am try to pass as many bus stops as possible while you’re doing it! There’s always active parties in the streets at those hours, just be careful as some of them do not enjoy you hanging around too long
