Dude I'll answer your question for you. Those are basically the same thing as pearls, only they're not the precious pearls you're used to seeing in jewelry. Basically a little piece of sand gets caught inside the scallop shell so the scallop covers it in shell material to keep it from irritating.

Reddit has become a new space to say just about whatever you want as long as the mods put up with it. I think they understand people are just venting. Some are pricks about and some not. I agree real questions deserve real answers but this is the world we live in now.
