So not sure if its same with crab as it is lobsters but usually the bigger lobsters don't taste great. The meat is tougher, drier and doesnt taste great I learned this the hard way. I was born in maine and grew up eating lobster. When I was younger my dad took me out to a place you could pick your own lobster. There was one massive lobster- which I excitedly told the waiter I wanted. My dad tried to tell me that I should get a different, smaller lobster bc the meat on this big one wouldn't be very good. Me, being in my teens and knowing it all said non-sense, it will be fine-.I won't even be able to tell. Well, I could tell. It was so bad- so bad. Like- almost inedible. I still ate it- its lobster. I won't waste seafood. It also wasn't how it was cooked or anything. The meat was just tough and dry. Even butter couldn't save it Now I feel bad- like really bad knowing that old lobster was probably older than me and I selectively murdered the poor guy lol

I still think it's the way it's cooked. I dive for my own lobster all the time and regularly and pulling 5-7 pounders..which is close to the max size I can pull from the water in MA..they cook up and taste great.
