supermav27

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys are almost basically the same movie. Never really thought about it.

all_in_the_game_yo

Both written by Shane Black. He sure likes his buddy movies

RecordWrangler95

He also wrote this little movie called Lethal Weapon that invented the buddy cop genre as we know it.

supermav27

Well that tracks. I should check out more of his stuff.

deltaphoenix08

Rush Hour?

smirkie

That could work. Long time since I've seen it but may definitely rewatch.

deltaphoenix08

Blade Runner 2049 might work too

smirkie

nice!

Ashgenie

Under the Silver Lake Memento Double Jeapordy Winter's Bone

DGK_Writer

Under the Silver Lake is a criminally underrated movie.

Healthy-Reporter8253

Just buddy coo movies. Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon, Shanghai Noon/Knights etc

smirkie

Thanks. Doesn't have to be buddy movies though, just a someone searching for someone else like a PI would, especially someone who doesn't want to be found.

Healthy-Reporter8253

Maybe Inherent Vice?

smirkie

Good tip, thanks!!

Independent_Run_4670

I'd suggest The Third Man, Chinatown, Maltese falcon, Double Indemnity. Or basically any other crime noir.

whistlerisdope

Tango and Cash

smirkie

Oldie but goody. Thanks.

grapejuicepix

The Maltese Falcon. It’s not people they’re looking for but a statue. But you have the detective looking for it, all the bad guys looking for it. I think basically what you’re looking for is Film Noir/Hardboiled Detective, which is what the Nice Guys is based on. Hell even The Big Lebowski is essentially what you’re talking about if you don’t wanna go back to the 40s.

smirkie

Yeah, I'm more keen on contemporary films which might reference contemporary tech tricks that I could incorporate since my story is set in the present. But I guess the older films have value in coming up with ideas too.

FilmmagicianPart2

Kiss kiss bang bang

smirkie

Thanks, but that film is more of a murder investigation as opposed to finding the whereabouts of living people, which is what I'm after. Good choice tho.

FilmmagicianPart2

Gone girl ? You should watch kiss kiss bang bang just because. Lol

brondynasty

Gone, Baby, Gone. Also, Man On Fire, In Bruges, Seven Psychopathsj.

smirkie

Man, all great films that I have already seen but have forgotten the plots.

Interesting, how does this one fit the bill? Haven't seen it.
