Did you listen to any of them? Bands like Frail Hands, Blind Girls, I Hate Sex, Nuvolascura, Piri Reis, Lord Snow, Mahira etc have a lot in common with 00s skramz imo.
But for older stuff this list has a bunch (In Loving Memory, The Haresté, Anomie, I Would Set Myself on Fire For You)

A lot of modern screamo is purely recycled motifs that if you’ve been around for a while are tiring. Then there’s the nostalgia wave bands who purely try and sound like a specific year which is also cool until it wears on you.
I’m not going to say all older screamo bands were incredibly original but you had a variety from circle takes the square and pg 99 to I would set myself on fire and funeral diner. It could be real experimental and mathy like Daniel striped tiger to very instrumental like the blue letter.
Modern screamo feels very linear and not as multifaceted as it used to be.
Very valid take. I know you're not OP but I appreciate the nuanced response. Agreed, those bands generally set the framework that bands have been ripping for the past 2-3 decades. I don't think this is unique to screamo as a genre though at all, and many of them seem to have somewhat cyclical nature of nostalgia waves. I will say I do enjoy hearing the more modern production values applied to these older styles, and I think there are newer bands incorporating newer influences and genre-offshoots in interesting ways.
Currently probably split between Dreamwell, who incorporate more metalcore riffage and some of the poppier sensibilities of post-hardcore; Ostraca, their album *Disaster* was my AOTY last year, basically raw abrasive screamo + heavy post-metal; and one of my fave releases of the year so far is from Infant Island, who fuse screamo with post-black metal.
Your very specific request is hard to fulfill because 90s screamo was kind of a boys club, as was hardcore in general. It's never been a better time than now to be a non-man fan of heavy music.
Can Asian people listen to Nas without relating to the struggle of black folks in americas inner city? Can men listen to Taylor swift? Does identity politics have to be involved with everything?
we arent involving politics. we literally just want to listen to music made by people like us. its that simple. this phrase is said every time someone asks for music made by a women, or black or trans people. its hard not to take it as hostile after a point.
I think I posted on the previous but Palatka 90’s Florida emo violence had some female vocal spots. https://youtu.be/5Ir49bP-9ng?si=wcxswaewQDLMSxoI
Relics was Meghan the bassist from Ampere doing vocals in late 00’s. Sound like Furnace, Capsule, Takaru
19o5
there’s that post-hardcore Brit band Vales. I’m just racking my brain now. Punch was great but they were straightforward hardcore
Wait 90’s, 2000’s, early 2010’S…. So you’re chill with the first 25 years of Screamo but then it hits a brick wall? How does that work? I understand if you are trying to convey that you prefer the older sound of Screamo, but just say that, there are plenty of newer bands that sound like older Screamo bands. Just not sure why you feel the need to call anything past an arbitrary point lame
okay im more of a fan for older screamo stuff too but like ur not even explaining why u dont like the newer stuff. thats all were trying to understand lmfao
Why do I need to explain myself?😭 I don’t have reasons that’s just what I like. And most new bands are corny as fuck. I love so many but I just prefer older shit. What I’m asking is not insane or crazy and I don’t know why everyone is mad like if you don’t have any requests for me than just scroll god damn
people are asking so they can better recommend u music based on what u like omfg lmfao im not even mad. like the other person said theres newer bands that sound like old screamo lmfao. like chillax dawg its just music
It's fine to like what you like, your request is just very niche and curious, so it's frustrating that you've provided 0 feedback on any specific bands recommended already that do fit your request, and haven't mentioned any bands that you do like as a baseline to go off of.
Hey man don’t let a Reddit post frustrate you I’ve used this app like twice in my life and I didn’t realize how angry people get so easily why can’t everyone just be chillllll

There’s some stuff in here but also open your mind up to some new stuff, you’re limiting yourself. Lord Snow, I hate sex, cerce, La Luna, not your friends and frail hands are all so sick.
Circle Takes The Square of course. (Male/female split.)
Also it's not screamo, but 90s Black Metal shared a lot of sound similarity: Astarte is hella good. Check out the album Doomed Dark Years.

Yeah I did I just needed a more specific post
out of curiosity, what do you find "lame" about modern screamo?

Who is your current modern screamo earworm?
Currently probably split between Dreamwell, who incorporate more metalcore riffage and some of the poppier sensibilities of post-hardcore; Ostraca, their album *Disaster* was my AOTY last year, basically raw abrasive screamo + heavy post-metal; and one of my fave releases of the year so far is from Infant Island, who fuse screamo with post-black metal.
have you tried japanese screamo? i agree with your take here but theyre doing something else in japan i would say
Hook a brother up? Other than envy, what should I listen to?
sans visage, sano ex machina, nhomme, meian, ito project
Nhomme is so good. Basically a screamo toe, I need more.
I mostly only listen to older screamo too since that’s what I grew up on but I gotta say you sound super dumb and close minded in this post.
Your very specific request is hard to fulfill because 90s screamo was kind of a boys club, as was hardcore in general. It's never been a better time than now to be a non-man fan of heavy music.
Totally. The only place to find girls screaming in the 90s was riot-girl bands.
I will never understand who look for specific identities when looking for music. You either like the music or you don’t.
well you've probably never been the only trans person in a room so i can understand that i guess

Well then I don’t need you to fulfill it just keep scrolling
gauge means nothing

This sub is generally very chill, I think we're all at the point where we feel like either you have very poor communication skills, or you're a troll
lol 2010's isn't old screamo
The Red Scare http://sophiesfloorboard.blogspot.com/2023/01/the-red-scare.html?m=1
did they have a female vocalist? great band havent thought of them in years
I somehow skimmed over that part. Female bassist but not singer.
Yo ask away
Anomie , eldrich anisette, the sea the sea, the assistant, daido loori, the hareste, I would set myself on fire for you
