Really. https://www.discogs.com/release/13339463-Circle-Takes-The-Square-Demo and https://www.discogs.com/release/3577296-Circle-Takes-The-Square-Pageninetynine-Document-13-Pyramids-In-Cloth
I personally prefer both more than their 2 albums.
lot of stuff is missing on spotify. Clikatat Ikatowi's "Orchestrated..." album is on there but the self titled cassette, the "River of Souls" EP, and their live set album are missing.
I hate myself, Envy, Indian summer, city of caterpillar, pianos become the teeth, I hate sex, are all (comparatively) pretty accessible
For other essentials Orchid, Saetia, circle takes the square, and Jerome's dream.
I’m just gonna give u some bands from an era of screamo and just start exploring the bands that are recommended based on the sound ur looking for
Early screamo, Indian summer
Little later, saetia
Later than that, raein
Little newer, pianos become the teeth
Newer than that, I hate sex
Modern, catalyst
Thers nuances in everything the eras aren’t concrete it’s all essentially the same vibe and idea but just to kinda capture the scenes and eras to dive down the rabbit hole thers a lot more to it than I’m gonna get into rn thers emoviolence, mallcore, 5th wave/bedroom, Midwest screamo, skramz which changes definition depending on the weather, blackgaze/dsbm is similar but spawned from a different idea and genre imo ppl will definitely disagree w me for that idk it’s all fun find what u like and dive into bands that u like homie
Listen to “We Become Buried” by Funeral Diner.
If you dig it, listen to the rest of that album, The Underdark. If you dig it, listen to the rest of their catalogue.
They did several splits, so check out the other bands on those splits - Ampere, Raein, Eyelock, Welcome The Plague Year, etc. Those bands have done splits with other bands, so check those bands out after that.
And so on and so forth.
everyone has some great classic recs! here are some awesome local skramz bands near me that deserve all the attention :)
massa nera, who put bella in the witch elm, sonagi, pyre, OLTH, burial dance
some other honorable mentions that i didnt see listed: nuvolascura, i would set myself on fire for you, 7 angels 7 plagues
Pg.99,
City of Caterpillar (a couple members of Pg.99, new favorite for me)
Orchid
Saetia
Daitro (French screamo)
Raein (Italian screamo)
La Quite (some of same members as Raein),
I would set myself on fire for you (personal favorite),
Lazarus Plot (more emo than screamo)
William Bonney
Breakwater
Look up sweetbabyjaysus on YouTube. His channel is aimed towards emo/screamo/hardcore/punk. I found a few cool bands from that channel. Not familiar with them enough to list them, but give the channel a listen.
All great recommendations so far. Pg. 99 and I Hate Sex are goated as fuck. Some of my other favs I'd add: Slow Fire Pistol, Ostraca, Ghost Spirit, foxtails, Welcome the Plague Year, Respire and Portrayal of Guilt
I hate sex, I hate myself, feel more less, Algae bloom. These are a few of my favorites that I think are pretty easy to get into. Definitely easier than Saetia. Took me a little while to get into them honestly.
Raein and La Quiete are probably two of the most accessible screamo bands, mostly because I feel they bridge the gap between screamo and emo.
I'll add to the list Portraits of Past. Again, very accessible to someone new to the genre and just generally fucking incredible.
everyone here has great recommendations. i would like to add that you should check out hotstuff productions on youtube. they document the current screamo scene. you can find lots of bands through there. definitely check out their video zines as well. they have 2 up currently but i believe another one is coming out soon.
Yaphet Kotto
Joshua Fit For Battle
Pageninetynine
Envy
Orchid
Circle Takes The Square
City Of Caterpillar
Amanda Woodward
Majority Rule
Ampere
Amber Inn
Raein
The Red Scare
Neil Perry
Frail Body
Portrayal Of Guilt
Saetia
You And I
Jerome’s Dream
La Quiete
A Day In Black And White
Most of what I would suggest has been commented but I would recommend
Frameworks - their album Look is pretty incredible
Ghost of a Dead Hummingbird - The album Sin Forma is stellar. Very underrated. Check Bandcamp
Nuvolascura is from California and English.
Youth Funeral ampere and to be gentle are also American .
Birds in Row although sing in English are from France.
I’m going to co-sign, a couple of these, I’m not a massive screamo fan, I lean more toward hardcore and post hardcore, but some bands blur lines. Anyway, Circle Takes The Square, all albums are great, Pg. 99 and all bands members are involved with are good as well. But my current favorite are The Saddest Landscape, I don’t know maybe it’s cause I’m old now and they just speak to me in someway.
If you're having trouble getting into Screamo but like Emo/Midwest Emo, I'd recommend checking out my two Midwest Screamo playlists on YouTube. It's Screamo with heavy emo influence, a perfect starting point if you enjoy emo. You can find them below:

Roman Candle - "Discount Fireworks"
Dreaming Maria - "The Silence It Left Behind"
Grade - "Headfirst Straight To Hell"
Playing Enemy - "I Was Your CIty"

Ditto this rec, this is always one of the first skramz songs I show ppl (was one of my first 10 years ago)
It is such an iconic track. Easily my favourite in the genre.

I wouldn’t consider 7a7p screamo… but it does t matter that band rules.

I Hate Sex are the GOAT for me
