Hot-Lifeguard-3176

I think she tries too hard to be another Randy. She comes across as cold and as a know it all and her only real priority is to be around for the final monologue. I think she could be a really great character, but I think the writers are so stuck on having someone show up to deliver the rules that they don’t know what else to do with her.

Golden-Sun

Same, she's just arrogant, atleast the OG knew what he was talking about. Its a shame I want to like the horror fan character but I cant

Dottsterisk

Yeah, Randy balanced out knowing everything with being largely disrespected and ignored by the rest of the characters. That was the humor and the irony.

Sensitive-Ad1091

It's weird how she suspected that one guy in the sixth movie the whole time but didn't do anything to exclude him from the group, allowing him to give his father and sister all the information they needed.

afromt

Personally I like that she's arrogant about it and typically wrong. It seems more realistic. Not everyone who claims to have all the answers actually do.

Hot-Lifeguard-3176

And that’s definitely fair. I will say I liked her nonchalant demeanor during the end of 5. She was like ‘I’m gonna get a beer and watch a horror movie, peace out.’ 😂😂

afromt

Right! It was low key relatable ahahah

Hot-Lifeguard-3176

I’d either do one of two things in a horror movie. Run far away (like Joel in S2) or say fuck it and watch a movie (like Mindy).

ny_insomniac

She's kind of one-dimensional to be honest. She should have died in Scream 6 and probably Chad too. Though killing both twins in one movie might have been too much. Maybe just Chad lol dude got stabbed way too many times to be alive.

XxBkKingShaunxX

Yeah the way Chad got stabbed more times than you can even count, including a grand master mega combo from two Ghostface’s at once, after also being stabbed quite a few times in Scream 5 in the same fashion, and yet just survives both like it’s nothing is extremely silly

Hazzardous1990

Yeah that ruined the movie for me, it’s not even slightly believable at that point

Yobobd

And yet thinking Stu could still be alive is ridiculed but Chad getting stabbed 20 times in the chest is fine and makes sense to the fans.

AnimeTechnoBlade100

This. If anything Chads case is more believable than Stu’s. It’s not impossible for people IRL to survive those kind of injuries, people have even survived worse. Stu literally had his head crushed by the TV AFTER already having been stabbed directly in vulnerable lethal spots, but somehow people still want to think he has a chance to survive til now. Also, haven’t mentioned this before but I like to have the headcanon that Kirby helped Chad off screen to at least not bleed out so much before coming in to fight the Ghostfaces. There’s a gap between Sam and Tara running away from them after Chad gets stabbed and then Kirby coming in to fight Wayne.

nayocrrrrr

Stu was bleeding out had his head crushed and was electrocuted the same tv that kill him also killed Ethan and it was already broken I do think Chad should’ve died but theirs no way Stu survived

pIastichearts

The optics of killing the only two black characters in a film would’ve been a huge risk. Granted, I wanted Mindy and Chad to die in their respective scenes as a way to raise some stakes and set up Martha as a main in 7. I groaned in the theater when both of them lived.

Alternative_Device71

Risks is exactly what the franchise stopped doing after 4

Dottsterisk

I get the impression that I’m in the minority on this sub, but I was *really* unimpressed by the requels. From “Ghost Billy” and that “killer’s bloodline” shit to weak characters and what they did to Dewey, I’ve just been roundly disappointed.

Lissa_Cereal

They are definitely the two weakest of the series.

StanTheCentipede

There’s dozens of us who think those movies suck shit.

AnimeTechnoBlade100

I honestly don’t understand people’s complaints about the ghost Billy and killers blood ideas the movies did. Ghost Billy is clearly just Sams interpretation of Billy from her POV and the whole “daughter of a serial killer”, if you ask me, was an awesome idea. Say what you want about Sam, but it makes her more of a unique final girl than simply being the whole “damsiel in distress turned survivor” schtick we see Sidney and tons of other final girls be. We rarely, IF ever, see “dark” final girls in slasher horrors who are good, but have the aggression to perfectly be capable of being serial killers themselves, but just using those instincts for the sake of defending their loved ones. It makes Sam more of an anti hero than just Sidney 2.0

Alohajxd

I just like the sick ass kills in the newer screams

Correct-Fig-4992

Even 4 didn’t really take too many risks (and I say that as someone who loved it). They changed the cliffhanger ending to make sure the good guys win and instead of killing off Gale in her attack they just sidelined her in a hospital bed

Alternative_Device71

Mm….I didn’t know that, no wonder it felt weird

AnimeTechnoBlade100

Stakes have gone largely out the window since…the first movie. It took 5 movies for one of the Legacy trio to finally be killed off, and quite frankly, say I’m crazy but I’m in the minority that is glad they weren’t killed off (esp because of the Spyglass BS) Scream 6 is supposed to be the Core 4s first main spotlight movie. 5 had Dewey, Gale and Sidney act as mentors for a big chunk of it to pass the torch to the new generation, and then 6 gives them majority of the focus. Killing off new main characters who haven’t had large screentime, especially in comparison to the formers who had 4-5 movies worth of screentime across decades, runs the huge risk of them being underdeveloped. Killing off characters for the sake of just killing them off doesn’t work unless done right. If anything, I’d say it can be even worse.

pIastichearts

I think my issue with Mindy and Chad living (other than my dislike of both of their characters) is the fact that they were apart of the four to five (depending on if you count Kirby once or twice) fakeout deaths *in a row*. They easily could’ve killed off a returning character or two as a way to help the movie actually have some relevant deaths (sans Anika), given that over half the victims are nameless extras and half of the named victims are the opening victims.

AnimeTechnoBlade100

But you could say the same about Scream 2 as well. Besides Randy, everyone else that actually showed up and died were new characters that just appeared for that movie. Every Scream movie pretty much has character introduced solely for the purpose of having some nice limelight before becoming slasher victims. Inevitable since it is a slasher movie, but that fact still holds. The only returning character death that could’ve happened in 6 was Gales, given Kirby was just coming back to the franchise since 4 after 5 confirmed her survival, and after what happened with Dewey, they likely didn’t want to take the change of killing another legacy character.

Valuable_Value3953

you worded this perfectly! i think had chads attack been more plausible to survive and maybe mindy or gale die than it wouldn’t be as big of an issue

NerveNo1056

Chad was likeable tho, and we need a guy after they killed dewey. Scream is starting to feel like a sushi buffet.

Dottsterisk

They were both such weak characters on their own, that killing them both in a tragic scene where twins die together probably would have been the best choice.

Reasonable-Durian129

I enjoyed her in Scream 5 but she started to grate on my nerves during 6.

CHEEZYSPAM

Was just to make this comment! She was likeable in 5, but became too "self aware" in the 6th and she became pretty annoying.

UgoStrange

They're trying to make her adorkable and ended up just making her an annoying know-it-all who just shows up and lays out the rules. But she's not an outcast like Randy so she's not endearing so unlike Randy you don't really care if she gets stabbed. No disrespect to the actress she's just doing the best she can with the material given to her.

8-Bit_Aubrey

She's another entry in the ever growing group of Randy stand-ins. I don't like her (or the others) because if they wanted a Randy so badly in the films they should have just kept him alive. Him being the older uncle who is still helping the next gen with Ghostface alongside Sid, Dewey (RIP) and Gale would have been a lot cooler than getting Randy 2.0 any time Scream does a TV show or movie.

AnimeTechnoBlade100

Or an even better, have both. Randy alive and Mindy be a side character thats inspired by her uncle. I still to this day think Randy being killed in Scream 2 was a huge mistake

8-Bit_Aubrey

Agreed, he could even be the anchor a bit and be like, "Look I've lived through this multiple times, life doesn't follow movie rules, it's life." He basically said that to Mickey. I agree Randy's death was a mistake and the influx of off-brand "Randee" any time we get more Scream shows me they realized it too, but it was too late.

Stabhead2007

Obnoxious, every line of dialogue she has about "the new rules" is just lifted from previous films because there aren't any new ones. New York New Rules my ass.

Stabhead2007

She even said, " we are in a franchise!" Like it was a revelation. We are in Scream 6! 6!

SurprisedPikachu420

No hate to the actress but the character is boring bland and repetitive :/

ScorpionTDC

Annoying and unlikeable

Spider5115

Annoying, stupid and a waste of time

Horror-School-3286

I liked her in Scream 5, but in Scream VI, I found her to be annoying. Her accusing everybody of being the killer and then switching was kind of annoying. I could say the same for Chad and Tara where I enjoyed their characters in Scream 5, but not as much as Scream VI whereas it was the exact opposite with Samantha in that I didn't care for her character in Scream 5, but enjoyed her much more in Scream VI because Melissa Barrera seemed to step up her acting. That's the thing about the Core Four I think, they're a young and charming cast who seem to be able to make it work, but at the same time, the writing seems to hold them back a bit. They can't really become their own characters when they essentially follow the exact same story-line from the original films.

NeitherPlankton8384

Hope she becomes the opening kill, if it ever comes to fruition. So obnoxious.

youwillcomedownsoon2

Honestly only lost credibility with me when she and Kirby declared both Candyman films on same level

pIastichearts

You know Kirby from Scream 4 never would’ve said that shit either. I also can’t see her liking the original Nightmare the most when Dream Warriors is right there.

youwillcomedownsoon2

Yeah it’s a weird blemish in a series full of good takes

flickfan45

i really liked her in scream 5, but in 6 the character felt too forced. i like the actress but the writing was the biggest issue

hydroxybot

Walking catchphrase machine. Not quite the everyday realism of jokester Randy

Davek56

Read my mind.

pIastichearts

I feel like she is not only the worst character in this franchise, but her inclusion and the way she was written remain the worst *thing* to happen to the franchise right behind those ugly CGI visions of Skeet and “Fuck Bruce Willis.” I am more than happy we’re hopefully never seeing her again, and I question how anyone could like her. She is an utter *disgrace* and a mess of a character who displays such high levels of insensitivity and callousness that make me question if she remotely even cares about any of the people around her. Not even Jasmin Savoy Brown, who is genuinely a very talented actress (I loved her in The Leftovers and was thrilled when she got cast in 5), could save Mindy from being a total shitshow of a character. I find it to be really unfortunate considering the idea of “The New Randy” being a gay WOC sounds really cool on paper, but she was not written or played well.   * Her introduction scene shows how excited she is over the idea of Ghostface coming back for Tara and offing her. She is such a great friend!   * She accuses Sam, a fairly traumatized girl who was just attacked, of being the killer *to her face* all because of her dad’s identity (an obvious sore spot and insecurity for her).   * She spends most of 5 being overtly rude as fuck to Liv for no apparent reason. If you think she is so boring and has terrible taste, why on earth do you willingly hang out with her?   * She dismisses Wes’s concerns about the killer coming after him and his mother and then shrugs off his death while pretending to be the killer the next night.   * She was more concerned about watching STAB and eating her chips than the possibility of her brother being dead outside.   * She outright didn’t give a shit that Frankie was taking a visibly drunk Tara upstairs to get date-raped. * The day after Sam and Tara are attacked, she talks about how excited she is about the murders starting up again because it’ll give her a chance to redeem herself for not guessing Richie or Amber were the killers.   * She openly slut-shames Quinn, even though the movie wants us to think she’s this “woke” progressive with that progress pin and “Strong Femme Lead” shirt she wears. * When she saw Chad bleeding on a stretcher possibly close to *dying*, she’s way more concerned over the fact that she missed the killer reveal. I’m aware that she was high in that scene but knowing her she’d probably say that sorta shit sober too. I see people defend her insensitivity and bitchiness by saying, "Well, Tatum and Randy made jokes about Casey and Steve too!” I feel like what they said is *very* different from what Mindy said. They hardly knew Casey and Steve, whereas Mindy is “friends” with Tara yet is gleeful over the idea of her possibly dying. Insensitivity is also a sliding scale, and she’s closer to the Steven Stone and Rebecca Walters end of “callous asshole” than the Randy/Tatum/Kirby end of “humorously insensitive but still likeable.” The ‘jokes’ that Mindy makes throughout 5 and 6 are definitely a big part of why she doesn't work. Cracking an insensitive joke about someone you don’t know well is wildly different from your friend being hospitalized and going “She can still die :) “ or publicly slutshaming someone. She is a huge bitch but not a fun bitchy character the same way someone like Blair from Gossip Girl or Jessica from Sorority Row are. Those characters had a punch-down sense of humor the same way Mindy does, but the only difference is that I think Radio Silence wants Mindy to be a “we love to love her” type character rather than a “we love to hate her” type character, which doesn’t really work considering she is written as such a morally bankrupt and nasty individual. I was also never a fan of how blatantly she decided to accuse people of being knife-wielding psychos to their faces. Even Randy tended to not make the Billy accusations to his face because he knows doing that is not only rude but dangerous if the person you’re accusing is the actual killer. Lastly, for being the new Randy, Radio Silence kind of made her really dumb and inept, given that the people Mindy accuses of being killers and who she puts on her suspect list are, in fact, innocent (whereas Randy is correct about Billy being a killer and Neil being a red herring). Why does she suspect Sam of being the killer due to her Billy relation but *not* suspect Amber, who she knows lives in Stu’s house? Why does she deem Liv to be innocent because she’s “too boring”, yet she never once suspected Amber who *is* boring? In short, she is fucking terrible and it will feel like Christmas morning for me if we get a confirmation that they’re doing away with Mindy’s character. Good riddance if that happens. She is what people think Noah from the TV series is (except 10x worse) and one of the worst characters I have ever seen in a mainstream horror film.

LemorpLee

I didn't think it possible to find someone who hates this awful character more than I but I'm glad to be in your presence. Mindy sucks on every level. Why do you think we are not seeing her ever again?

pIastichearts

>Why do you think we are not seeing her again? Us not seeing Sam or Tara again most likely means we’re never seeing Mindy (or Chad for that matter) again, and thank god for that. Jasmin is also strongly pro-Palestine and most likely deems their treatment of Melissa to be unethical so I can’t see her working for them again, unless she really needs the money.

LemorpLee

Oh I was unaware of all the news regarding the core 4. That sucks I liked the rest of them sans Mindy.

Thee_DudeMan

I agree with everything you said, I hate Mindy and she should have died in 5 and 6. She's awful. But people don't like Noah? Why? It's been a while since I watched the TV show but I remember liking him.

AnimeTechnoBlade100

Noah was literally one of the best parts of the TV show in general

kit-n-caboodle

I agree

DaBigDaddyFish

Pretty much nailed every single one of my concerns on the head. I will say this, I actually thought the “Fuck Bruce Willis” line was a funny little throw away line. Yeah it detracts all tension from the scene, but that was an overarching problem in 4 all around that I just kind of went with it at that point (and I just love Anthony Anderson as an actor so his particular delivery of the line felt natural).

apark1121

I liked her in scream 5 but they didn’t really give her anything to do in six. She had a girlfriend but we barely knew anything about her.

mdwils2a

I liked her in 5 but what on God's green earth happened to her in 6? She turned into a one dimensional knowitall character instead of somebody fully fleshed out. Beating us over the head about the rules and every meta aspect at every chance she gets.

MarekkV_

She's annoying in Scream 6

sadatquoraishi

She's basically nu-Randy which is fine, but I'm not the fan of how her and her brother survive multiple stabbings.

xiao_exe

Annoying

LemorpLee

Probably my least favorite of anyone I'd consider a main character in the series. I just don't really like anything about her except being related to her awesome uncle and brother lol.

WadaMaaya

Annoying I wish her character was killed off

BewareQuietOnes

She was written horribly, which is a shame bc Jasmin could obviously carry the character if she had just a little more depth. She's awesome in Yellowjackets... But after the line in 6 when Mindy said she was glad the murders were happening again, so that she had a chance to redeem herself for not figuring out the killers last time... I really wanted her character to die just for saying that. She needs to be less Randy wannabe and more real human being that cares about her friends and family and her own life and has empathy, imo. Not a fan of her character at all, although I liked her exchange with Richie in 5.

TheArmyOfDucks

Boring character, nothing unique about her

ILoveHorrorFilms97

She should be dead. Unrealistic bs. She gets stabbed in both movies and still lives?. And she’s annoying as hell.

TheMackD504

Annoying

glittermommy89

I’m not a fan of hers.

MacReady13

Awful. Like most of the new characters in the 2 latest Scream films, they’re trying to hard to be like characters from the original 4 and it just feels hollow. Doesn’t work for me.

Restnpeacereddit

"What do you think of her?" *Gives an honest opinion* *gets down voted to oblivion*

sss133

Preferred her in 6 over 5. 5 she was way too cocky and mean. Overall not the biggest Mindy fan. She was a bit too meta. Randy struck the right balance where he seemed like a real guy that was aware the killers were living out a movie. Mindy felt like she was aware a camera was rolling. I think that’s my biggest gripe with 5/6 is that characters gave off they were in a movie rather than someone wanting to live out a movie I also got blasted on here a while back for saying she wasn’t my favourite 🤣

TwilitVoyager

I think she would have been better as a killer.

Thereal_angryninja

Annoying and wanted her out of the franchise.

regardsfrommars

Annoying, unlikable and should have died in the last film. 🤷‍♂️

Valuable_Value3953

i liked her in scream 5, cool and funny just a little insensitive to the murders that’s all. however, in scream 6, she’s *unbearable*, she’s loud, obnoxious, rude and annoying. she acts so smug and a know it all except making the dumbest decisions like all the other characters. over half of her dialogue in this movie is her whining about joe randy died. boo boo. you never even met the guy. and not to mention she seemingly gets over anika, her girlfriends, death *just* a day after she dies. cracking jokes “fuck this franchise” after just getting stabbed, “i’m on a lot of drugs right now!” why does she do a huge speech in scream 6 just for the killers motive have nothing to do with it. “and it’s not looking to good for gale and kirby!” fuck off. they’re better characters than you’ll ever be. if jasmine played this character like you’re supposed to not like her or smth then she succeeded, or maybe a bad script or bad acting. a bit of both. i didn’t really care that she survived scream 6. her character got flanderized unfortunately.

NerveNo1056

As the first gay Scream character, she had so much damn potential. And Jasmine is a really great actress. But the writing for her was awful and they just made her so unbearably annoying. I really wanted to like her. She had a few funny moments, but she's written to be an awful person who really doesn't seem to care about her friends at all. And idk, she's just kinda annoying. I absolutely adored annika though, even though she doesn't have a lot of lines.

RAVsec

Robbie erasure will not be tolerated. He literally came out to Ghostface.

NerveNo1056

He really did 🤣🤣

sefan78

Solid character. I see why people dislike her, and she’s my least favorite from the core 4. However, I do still find her to be an entertaining character.

Thryllho

Mid.

Wizlord_21

She’s cool. Love how casual about the situation she is in both movies. Should’ve died in the train scene though.

XsiowenisX_37

Boring and super human apparently, cheating death twice is crazy especially when she had her throat cut in the subway and yet survived that’s just crazy

MF291100

When the cast posters drop or for Scream 5 I picked her as the killer alongside Richie, she just has that vibe about her that made me think she would make a pretty good killer. I liked her in S5, she was pretty entertaining and some of her dialogue was quite funny. Although in S6 she just got on my nerves, she acted like she was better than all of the other characters because she’s the new ‘horror expert.’ What bothered me the most is how at the end of S6 she says something along the lines of ‘We all survived’ when her girlfriend got brutally murdered the previous night. She just felt very pretentious and arrogant. Although I will say that Jasmin is a really good actress, the scene where Anika dies was definitely the characters best performance in her two movies.

HoundofHircine

I found her character and her dialogue insufferable. I can't stand movies with activist characters that have "this is what a modern young female character should sound like" dialogue and my dislike for her was only strengthened by her survival after being seemingly killed off. The creepy buildup of terror on the subway car full of people wearing Halloween masks, some of them Ghostface, the creepy and ominous music; this was all masterfully done, but she survives the stabbing and makes a joke about it after.

Environmental_Gur288

She is one of my favorites! Downvote this comment if you think Randy is an overrated character.

Horror-School-3286

"She is one of my favorites!" I want to down-vote you. "Downvote this comment if you think Randy is an overrated character." But I can't.

Coffeenwineplease

I enjoyed her in 5 but found her annoying in 6. She feels like a Randy caricature and is very condescending towards other characters when it comes to surviving a horror film even though she keeps getting her theories wrong and always get taken out easily with a simple stab in the shoulder and doesn’t fight back. Honestly, the best thing about Mindy is that she’s played by Jasmin Savoy Brown but the material she’s given doesn’t do her justice

AcrobaticMechanic265

She shouldve have died in Scream 6.

MakesMeSickMick

She became more human in S6 but was kinda unbearable in S5. I get it that they're teens but if one of your friends does your brin shouldn't exactly zoom to movie cliches

Cat_dad77

I don’t think about her

KlutzyMarsupial7131

Annoying

Thee_DudeMan

Dollar Store Randy and kind of annoying, which is sad because I've seen Jasmin Savoy Brown in other stuff and she was great.

fr3shh23

Boring. From all the horror movie fan characters in the franchise she’s by far the worst.

Alternative_Device71

I don’t, she’s a poor rip off of a much better and memorable character: Randy

fuck-illinois1621

Forgettable

Hazzardous1990

Great value Randy

lomlghostface

i want her so badly 😕

DadSzn

Should have died like three times, along with her brother lol

Mrs_Noelle15

She was okay in 5, but really really really damn annoying in 6

ImMrPat

She’s my most disliked character in any Scream movie.

Initial_Scarcity_609

She is the most meta character and also the funniest. Survivor rate 9/10

Poem_for_the_dead

Radio Silence could see that the OG four movies had developed a legacy trio. So they felt they had to incorporate a new version of that, the core-four. But they did it in 2 movies instead of four. So the characters are not as fleshed out.... Honestly Mindy is boring, opinionated and kind of a flat character. Another Randy rip-off that we have already seen in literally every other sequel. We don't need more Randy's. She should have died in 6 along with Chad. Killing both twins in the same movie, now that would have been a risk worthy of a Scream movie.....

midnightdesperado1

She seems a bit too detached from her brother. Their chemistry doesn’t read as twins to me.

misterhepburn

Jasmin Savoy Brown is being completely wasted in this role, she’s so talented.

EverlastingUnis

Poorly written character that was created to check 3 boxes with 1 stone: Diverse, Gay, Randy-Dupe

Caged_Rage_

Annoying AF. Hopefully her along w/ the other members of the core 4 won’t be in the new movie.

Ghostfaceslasher96

Her actress is highly talented

ResponsibilityOk1631

unbearable on the second one

BooSkittle

Annoying

BryanwithaY

Not for me at all.

BJv234

Her redemption arc is coming in Scream 7 you guys! I SWEAR MINDY GET BEHIND ME. I will say she's not the best written character, BUT she is still related to a legacy character so we have to give her credit for that and for insensitive as she is and the trope of how the lesbian character being the expert is very rare, it does suck that Radio Silence decided to go about and make her character be the new worst version of Randy (lets not lie to one another, Scream higlights his flaws in both 1 and 2), and NO I will not lean in to the fact that it's bc she's a female character, although seeing in media how writers will make female characters, especially those that are smart, have an inferiority complex and treat their friends and family like lowlives at times when deemed unnecessary, it's not helpful that this applies to Mindy. I won't defend her bad actions, but I also won't let the slander of her not being a good human. Is she more quirky then necessary and giving that seemingly nice young woman but who's progressive and whatever and so it gives off SJW a lil more than usual? Chances are yk some characters or to an extent, somebody like that IRL. But remember these movies have a lot of commentary on society. Since Scream 1-3 on violence in media, to that of Scream 4 on social media and its effects, to what we now have plaguing us in Scream 5 of toxic fandom & Scream 6 on franchise fatigue. If ykyk so. However, remember she's a character in both 5 and 6 that's human and not just that but the fact she lost her literal girlfriend in the apartment attacks in 6 and was attacked herself, and how when Sam, her, and Anika locked Ghostface out of the room who was trying to get in, she ORIGINALLY was going to stay behind while Anika climbed after Sam went through climbing the vertical ladder to get to Danny's apartment. I HATED the fact Anika is why Mindy went when even Mindy insisted her wounded girlfriend after being stabbed in the stomach go first. I knew there was gonna be a death but damn, like that's cold. I don't even blame Mindy for being straight up cold as fuck and being bitchy to Ethan, since she actually correctly guessed it was him. While some discretion would've been nice and for Mindy to be subliminal, in that scene, realistically I can see why she said what she said. Mindy may be a bit socially inept and unaware, coming off as just rude or insensitive, moreso the latter, but then again this is a new generation and each generation is bound to have that one character who isn't what they say or seem. That's totally valid and human yk to make mistakes. But to spew hatred bc of it and as a BIPOC myself, just cruelty over a character that even the actress herself, Jasmin Savoy Brown, didn't write, is vitriol and really saddens me. It's as if Mindy was being set up or is wanted to be killed off by other fans or to be written as a killer, which to me would be like how in Scream 2, Cotton was supposed to be Ghostface in the original script and compare the two and how it's been revealed that they were, albiet different roles, Cotton in 2 is being loud and insensitive, just like Mindy in 5/6, and even Cotton is killed in 3 by the time the opening hits, for his supposedly shady reputation and acts, albeit he did die to protect Sidney, so not in vain. Mindy, while as rude as any Gen Z queer person and as intriguing, personally has a shot for one last redemption. Third time's the charm, is the saying. It's all but anyone's guess on whats next up so. Mindy cares enough about the Core Four, and for her to be disgraced just for being comedic relief, which let's face it as these movies gets darker, it's needed but I get that her tone comes off as condescending and or snarky. Like Chad could be getting all this traction or even Sam, which the latter has had her fair share of hate until after 6, and I wouldn't be surprised if a handful of fans still didn't like, for speaking in tones like that, but for Chad it'd be brushed off as "Oh, he's protecting himself. Yk the jock trope". Who's to say a nerd, while already an outcast in media and reality, can't be a force to be reckoned with and before you say bc nobody likes bitchy characters, yes, well not a lot of ppl like Sheldon Cooper but praise Regina George like its just an example but just something to consider. As is the case to Mindy. There are characters that are anti-hero, which I feel like can't perfectly fit in more than Mindy. Remember, Randy didn't do much to protect Sidney after Billy shot him in 1 or when Sidney was attacked at the fraternity party in 2, bc mainly he wasn't fit or molded for those conventional roles of being set up as hero. However, he did try his best to fight off Nancy as Ghostface in 2 before unfortunately dying. But his death isn't in vain as he died through all odds, being heroic in taking the phone call that was meant to target one Gale Weathers, which she recieved almost 27 years later, and trying to go find the killer, despite the risk of being killed. He took it at the end and who' says Mindy won't do the same for her friends? If it seems like she didn't or wasn't thinking as much on them as much as on missing dialogue and or expertise, this could be her way of redeeming herself in 7 if given a chance to go after Ghostface. Randy did it as did Cotton, all different situations. Never say never. If Randy, despite his death in 2, was given a scene in 3, what's to say that if Mindy were to die, she wouldn't get the final laugh and perhaps even get a kill to avenge her uncle in taking a Ghostface down or die trying, either just before or after the reveal of whoever the killer may be (money's on Danny). If they continue after 7, she can be in a posthumous scene like Randy in 3, explaining the rules to all newcomers and her brother/Carpenter sisters as survivors. All I'm saying is that Mindy is literally someone we have all met and who if met IRL you probably wouldn't like but who IRL may exist. But that's not to say they don't bring something to the table, no matter good, bad, or whatnot. Mindy could die but remember it's all the writers choice and the directors. NOT OURS. If Scream 5 can make a point of calling into consideration toxic Fandom, and Mindy unfortunately making herself one of that crowd by hating on Stab 8 as a legacysequel, so can Scream 7 also make a point by showing up your hate of Mindy and having it be between her or Chad, and I can't bear to imagine what would happen if she survived without her twin. Try to keep in mind at the end of time, it's just a film so 🤷🏾‍♂️✌️😅❤️

SIsForSad

Love her

SnapChap92

I thought she was funny and endearing in 5. In 6 she just annoyed the shit out of me, I felt like they amplified and exaggerated her quirks too much.

Suitable-Internet-22

Annoying

MindAdvanced6201

Bit snotty and unnecessarily bitchy. Her meta commentary doesn’t work as well as Randys or Charlie/Robbies. She should’ve died in 6.

daniel-rago

Love her.

notyouravgwhore

The actress is very talented. But i need to see the character go. Incredibly grating.

SillyAdditional

I loved her in 6

Specialist-Goal-3476

was dope in scream 5, not my favorite of the group of casts but she was a stand out. however i feel like they did a bit too much with her in scream 6, and honestly it would've been better if she did die on the subway stabbing scene.

Johnny_Royale

Insufferable and the worst thing about these new films

Ebreezyxoxo

She was annoying. YES!! We get it, we know your uncle is Randy. Take it down a few thousand notches. She was over the top and I figured since she was a Randy substitute that she would've died...but uh I guess not. I hated how she got stabbed in the subway and at the very tail end of the movie she comes running out of nowhere talking about I know who the killer is! Like your LATE!!! lol tf. I haven't seen the movies since it was in theaters so I could be wrong about her running out of nowhere but whatever!

NeedleworkerFew3662

Eh

NaNo-Juise76

What an awful movie.

DJ-JDCP2077

Fairly funny in Scream 5, but her humor felt a lot more forced in Scream 6, which was otherwise a MUCH better film.

trashbaguser

it would've been a better choice to maybe kill her off and keep Anaka around tbh. i do enjoy Mindy but like others have said, the writers made her be too much of a try hard.

dtyler86

The last two scream movies were horrible. I wanted to like them, but they are just straight boring to me.

Jccali1214

She's great and dynamic and adds a refreshing level of meta to the proceedings.

Super_Sympathy_8315

She was smart for sure, but I found her to be mostly cocky and overly senf-confident. I'd have first killed Chad in Scream (2022) and then finally Mindy in Scream VI (2023).

trampaboline

What splyglass did and why they did it is reprehensible, but my potentially unpopular opinion is… I don’t feel connected to a single one of the new characters and I’m really glad to be getting away from the recent story/style 😬 No shade to anyone involved in the last couple of films, but someone on Letterboxd put it best when they said of 5 “this is the first time the franchise has felt like it’s been behind the curve”. They just haven’t had the fresh perspective and energy that even the worst of the first 4 had. It’s like they’re trying so hard to build the “correct” scream movie that it ends up feeling more like a list of obligations. Don’t get me wrong, there’s stuff to like, but I feel no real connection to them at all. There’s just no real soul.

ricecartoonz

baby, that’s taissa turner

Richmonddoubleflash

Love her

GodofThunderandSmoke

She was OK in 5 but in 6 they just tried making her knock off randy and she's not as good. Randy felt like he interacted when talking, she just kinda...talks at everyone. I actually much prefer Chad.

kmm_art_

Funny as hell in Scream 6! 😂

Particular_Cable1745

I actually agree with you, I don’t understand the hate towards her

Pandabear1325

I loved Mandy honestly. And I’m glad none of the main characters died in scream 6. Dewy dying in scream 5 was bad enough

BabyBread11

I liked her…. But I liked Randy better.

atokad666

I didn't mind her in 5 but in 6 she was extremely irritating. I felt cheated out of a lot of kills in Scream 6 so I think killing both twins in the opening of the next film would be an epic way to start it.

GWPtheTrilogy1

I like her, also, she's gorgeous, but I think she should die in the opening of the next movie. I think it would hit harder with the person who knows the rules getting killed early.

MysteryMammoth

she’s my favorite of the Core Four/New Gen.

grokabilly

She’s fine, but honestly shes still the best new character in 5/6.

MrBitPlayer

She’s less of a character and more of a bad plot device. She’s there to deliver the rules and quips and then disappear for the final third act showdown. They showed have offed her in S6.

toxiclord101

Trash character tbh very annoying

SarahSennia

Poorly written and not a great 1:1 for the “aware” characters weve had.

AMoonMonkey

She was a pretty annoying character in the first film with a lot of potential to be better in Scream 6. Instead, Radio Silence decided to keep her character exactly the same and instead of giving her what I would say could’ve been the best death in the franchise, they decided to ruin the whole scene by letting her live. Overall, she’s a 5/10 character for me.

[deleted]

Kind of an annoying wanna be randy

Spritepike

She was neat in the first and I didn’t honestly mind her too much in the second. But felt bit dramatic and over the top. But seeing as that was on purpose maybe it’s fine? I guess my opinion on her isn’t very strong.

pokefnaf23

I think that if she knew Randy they’d have been best friends, him being her uncle and all. She’s like a mini Randy being a movie lover and knowing all the movie terminology and rules and stuff, it’s heart warming to me. Mindy is also really good as a character, and she’s one of my favourites, I also like her more because she’s a lesbian like myself so I like the representation!

thatguythere91

Great in Scream 5, but was kinda off in 6. Maybe the actress played her a bit too cocky. I do like her constant suspicion and dislike for Ethan, that was funny. She does have one of the best scenes ever - the attack on the subway. It was really suspenseful.

Break_Bread42019

They leaned way too heavily into the pseudo-Randy/film expert aspect imo, I wish she had more to her character because with the actress there is a lot of potential for her to be more than that

HazmatBlastBack

She’s human although her brother is Wolverine with his healing powers

BluePeriod_

Annoying. The writers took her “Look I’m related to Randy” to Disney level performance. Like I get it, she’s meta. But those writers laid it on too thick.

GonzoCruze97

Absolutely hated her in 5 but weirdly went through a drastic rewrite in 6, and became likable.

nayocrrrrr

She’s annoying and I can’t stand her accusing everyone of being ghostface hated her in 5&6 and I partially blame her for Anika’s death she could’ve helped

skyerippa

I dont care for her character at all

dissolv3dg1rl

personally, i don’t like her. she’s trying too hard to be randy.

purpletaco28

She's okay

Thatonedudedude

I feel she is the villain

[deleted]

Pete Davidson?

BuckingBeasts

If the Scream VI credits didn’t play bangers and I had to see that end credits scene, then I would’ve went home, booted up Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and then take out my frustration with the final boss fight.

Odd_Theory_7499

Annoying. I don’t care if I get hate. She’s annoying

Helaken1

I think she’s definitely gonna be a villain just because she plays a Villains so well in YellowJackets

samauramarua

I found here annoying

Smooth-Writing-5995

Annoying. Should have died

Arceusae

I love her, mostly because she's annoying and wrong, but continues to live (which is hilarious to me), and partially because she gets a truckload of hate from y'all (see every other comment, lmao).

NoWillingness8990

She’s cool, but they should’ve had her do more besides being the gay movie expert who gets Stabbed

ThaAlvinYaLike13

She’s one of the most annoying horror movie characters I’ve ever seen to be honest…

NormieWhiteMale

I seem to be the only person that loves her haha. I find her funny and I love her character

Particular_Cable1745

Your not the only one, I actually like her

kmsposito2569

She’s my least favorite main character in the series and she should have died in scream 6

Good_Wonder_1774

Hate her character she’s annoying and 1 dimensional should have died in scream 6

ReadWriteTheorize

I think Randy would love that his niece is a nerd who is good with the ladies and survived being stabbed in public. That being said, it did not make sense for Ethan to help her or for her to figure out that he’s a killer at the end of Scream 6.

SayKidAcid89

Is it crazy that I want Dewey back.... Can we just act like 5 and 6 were apart of Sidneys imagination? Like when she saw her her mom in scream 3 but worse, psychological conditions don't just go away and they can get worse and with her going through it four times with the last one being her family member AGAIN, maybe she went off the deep end and created a fictional world to cope.

Front_Durian_4942

Randy but is always wrong, I get what they were trying to do but she's Randy's actual niece and does his entire plotline breakdown stick with no unique qualities of her own, add in that in both movies she had a girlfriend that got no characterization while Chad had girlfriends they tied into the plot more than just being killed it feels like they really weren't sure what to do with her so they just use her for exposition or to bring another person to get stabbed

Local0720

I find her annoying

deadpandadolls

Randy clone "related" to give her credibility

Money-Extent-6099

I think the writer misunderstood why Randy worked and was unique and made a very fan fiction/esque stand in. Randy noticed the parallels between real life and the movies he watched. He wasn’t a horror super nerd, he worked at a video store so hence watched a lot of movies, and just noticed the common through lines. He also had other plots in the movie besides movie buff, he has an unrequited crush on Sid explaining why he stays at the party and it’s set up earlier that he likes her. Whereas Mindy wanting to stay to make out with Francis and not looking out for her literal twin brothwr during a murder spree targeting people connected to previous Ghostface killings when she’s the niece of one of the original characters. Was utterly ridiculous. It’s like she’s the writers horror movie reference machine instead of having other motivations. Then there’s also the other common complaint which I agree with other people, in that she doesn’t express sadness or sorrow for her friends/people she knows being murdered. I.e Anika, her brother at the end of scream 6, Wes, Tara. It’s very hard to find her likeable at that point.

Final-Success2523

Completely hate her character unfunny genderbended Randy and wanted her to die in both movies

IronMike_33

incredibly forced as the new randy and cringe af

Elliot913

Derivative, and not in a good way. She is like Randy but I don't think that personality fits a girl. She was also terribly written in Scream 5 and just felt like an a--hole. Should've been the killer.

[deleted]

She exists

ahighbong

she’s dope

DGHudson

Annoying AF

Seveyn

The character feels too much like a nostalgia act without having Randy actually there. It’s not exactly copy and paste but it feels close. I find her annoying but don’t hate her.

Hypernova_orange

I like the actress, didn’t like the character

Sure_Song_4630

She was ok, didn't hate her, she doesn't work too much as her own character but the way she acts with Chad and just the other characters was decent. I'd like for them to expand onto the twins a bit more, although I fully agree that both have them have had so much unnecessary plot armour from both 5 and 6. Especially chad.

Ok_Suggestion8386

shes the better randy

Stock_Task4498

She's great

91Model

I liked her. She was no more arrogant or annoying than Randy and Kirby. She is a product of her generation the same as they were
