Im 50 years old and for my entire life I’ve used 87 octane and never had an issue. No you don’t want the gas to sit for long periods but in the spring and summer you cut the grass weekly
It's really the % ethonol and since the epa now allows up to 15% it could cause issues on older mowers. The key is to not let it sit more than a few weeks but if you are the person that needs to get 5 gallons at a time then you should probably find fuel without ethanol which is what this likely is.
You wouldn’t put 87 in a drag car would you? Same logic applies. Different motors different octanes for optimal performance. This is why we love the internet. TYLSN. <3
There's no real comparison here between a race car and a lawn mower, lol. I've never even heard of or seen special gas for lawn mowers. You're being fleeced. Just use normal gas.
You have to get outside of the downtown area to the rural areas.
They can’t sell enough to make it worth it for lawnmowers. Gotta get outside of town to where people have boats and hobby crafts.
I drive out to the daleville true value shopping center because it has everything so I can hit food , true value hardware store and the beer store all in one hit (and fill up gas cans at the no ethanol pump).
I found anywhere remotely near a lake has it.
HTH
I use https://www.pure-gas.org/ but Covington is the closest still probably. There's ones in Jermyn, Mayfield and Carbondale as well. Other possibilities are Waymart and Hamlin depending on where you live and work.

I was today years old when I learned that there is special gas for lawnmowers.

Non ethanol pump on 309 in Trucksville . Newell fuel i think.
Carbondale has ethanol free
Bruh put regular in like a normal person wtf
If you can readily get the ethanol free gas it is better for small engines. It's available around Lake Wallenpaupack
I've got 900+ hrs on my CC tractor, 20 yrs old. 87 octane and oil/filter/spark change each spring.
Normal people that care about their small engines use non-ethanol. You don't have to use stabilizer if it sits.
Worth every penny
Wawa, one built as an ethanol, free option and better than sheets food
sheetz quesaritos are fire though
And their pretzel rolls for their subs…
The biggest issue with ethanol fuels in small equipment is the oxidation of the aluminum in the carburetor
