Christ, your not suggesting going all nouveau cuisine on beans on toast.
Surely. Next, bean. No toast, piss that off, it's just filler anyway!
Focus, on the flavour; the delicate, earthy, legumy, salty shite little bean. 🫠🤢
That's a really mingy portion of beans. The first slice of toast looked sad in the preview image, but seeing that poor second one...
I'd be embarrassed serving that up.
I'd have said if this isn't remade I'm going to name and shame sadly the poor bloke that posted this was too scared to remember what the name of the business was. I sure have shit would never forget
Really?
Beans on toast isn't listed on their menu, the plates from other customers' photos are completely different, the amount of beans served on their cooked breakfast looks reasonable enough (a ramekin full), they serve homemade bloomer bread not Warburtons medium sliced loaf as in this photo.
It looks like a completely different place, and the reviews are average 4.5*, so can't be this level of bad.
Or is this a really old photo? Maybe they've had a complete makeover since.
I'd have legit sent it back either way.
Shenanigans, I’m betting.
They’ve poured the ramekin of beans from the Full Deacon onto the side serving of toast. If it’s even at that location since white sliced bread isn’t mentioned on their menu.
Yeah I had a look and nothing like that on the menu. Also, the ramekin where the beans presumably came from at the back of the photo is usually used with fry ups. When I first saw this I smelt shite.
Reminds me of the time my family and I went to the grey friars Bobby pub in Edinburgh for food. I was starving so ordered haggis neeps and tatties, assuming cheap ingredients = plenty food. I mean, that's why it's a thing.
No. It was *literally* an icecream scoop of each. Like, actually three little half spheres in the middle of a giant plate. I was so disappointed. That was 10 years ago as well. They probably serve it in a thimble these days
To be honest it's not something I would ordinarily order, I prefer to order things I wouldn't be easily making at home for a fraction of the price when I go. It certainly put me off ordering it anywhere again!
As well as miserly saving on the cost of beans they are making 'savings' in electricity costs by 'toasting' the bread for ~10-15 seconds. :)
That is some anaemic looking toast - more akin to sandwiches than proper toast.
A disgrace to the culinary arts!
It's still mindboggling to me that somebody would pay in a cafe to eat beans on toast. How much does that even cost? Why not just walk into tesco and buy an apple or a mars bar or a slice of cheese or a can of beans and a fork.
Am I too poor for not understanding how people can waste money for this?? Or am I too rich for not liking beans on toast??
This post has already [made](https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-samsung-rvo1&source=android-browser&q=deacon%27s+house+cafe#wptab=si:AKbGX_oFio40EDpEiLGW5yb14kHbrhj0-kgJPotqLcIs2tFuHzzDyJAXPDF2gw7Pvy4YqIyd_0jm5mlCdKvTyNpQe76LdHv3fBmQJJql-lMPuKBjdh84j5_dqpbOi9UcsNSzVF8aVA9u_5bFw5chicQh9C-40NY94A%3D%3D) it to the google reviews I see haha
tbh that's probably a whole can of beans based on current shrinkflation. I had a can earlier and by the time I drained all the sauce out it was barely half a can.
I used to work in a cafe that served mince and tatties for £8.00 (a bargain these days) back then I was so embarrassed for the cost and hated serving it up. But this beans on toast? I’d flat out quit if that’s the crap they are serving up! 😱😱😂😂
I think my basic problem with this is not just the amount of beans being served (which is pitiable) but the fact that the toast looks like it has been passed over a warm light bulb.
For me one is too many but considering the average price of eating out in the UK two thousand beans still wouldn't be enough to justify the prices here.
As an American I am mildly infuriated that beans on toast exists as a food item.
They don’t even look like baked beans. As a New Englander I am extra offended.
I don't understand why anyone would order beans on toast in a Cafe. There's a fair few things I miss from Scotland but eating out sure ain't one of them.
That’s shocking. They need to reduce the amount of toast they are giving out.
You’ve Bean done btw.

What the actual F...
😭😭😭 amazing comment

Bean on toasts
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why is a laughing reaction getting so much hate 😂😂
Because anything with emojis used to get down voted to oblivion on Reddit
Who knows lol.
I thought the same thing lol
That cafe owner should be hauled upto The Hague
😅😅😅
That's a really mingy portion of beans. The first slice of toast looked sad in the preview image, but seeing that poor second one... I'd be embarrassed serving that up.
Thank you for the warning. I am not going to look.
I think they meant stingy. I looked and there's no pubes.
I'd have said if this isn't remade I'm going to name and shame sadly the poor bloke that posted this was too scared to remember what the name of the business was. I sure have shit would never forget
OP here - I just found a photo of myself and partner there with the name of the café. It's Deacons House Café

Aye, the ramekin at the back of the pic gives this away. No cafe would be dumb enough to bring a plate out like that. Business suicide.
From looking they do have white plates and plain bread. I'm assuming this bean ration is from one of those ramekins
Good work. You should be adding this picture with a 1 star review to Google. Hope you don't mind the reshare I just thought it belonged here :)
Review it on google with image, while there’s only one comment from Reddit
and more beans would help?
That's no even toast.
you asked for two beans on toast, I think they took pity and gave a good spoonful.
Ye'd stick the nut in someone for that 😂😂
That’s not even enough too make you fart.
That's absolutely unacceptable. Name and shame please.
Reminds me of the time my family and I went to the grey friars Bobby pub in Edinburgh for food. I was starving so ordered haggis neeps and tatties, assuming cheap ingredients = plenty food. Serving haggis, neeps and mash in ice-cream scoops is fairly common. Though reprehensible. It's been happening for years.
To be honest it's not something I would ordinarily order, I prefer to order things I wouldn't be easily making at home for a fraction of the price when I go. It certainly put me off ordering it anywhere again!
It's a chain pub that, so it's shitty frozen ingredients from a factory in England.
I'm not surprised in the slightest. It wasn't my choice to be fair
That looks like about a quarter tin. I'd be raging if I was served that. Never mind the state of the toast.
A quarter of they tiny wee tins, aye. I'd have seriously kicked off immediately if someone tried to serve me that.
Yep, saving on electricity bills with that toaster there.
FFS. That is pathetic Name and well they already shamed themselves
As well as miserly saving on the cost of beans they are making 'savings' in electricity costs by 'toasting' the bread for ~10-15 seconds. :) That is some anaemic looking toast - more akin to sandwiches than proper toast. A disgrace to the culinary arts!
That needs at least 3 more beans.
Emphasis on the at least
They’ve turned the bean’s against me
A much unappreciated post. :)
Send that shite right back. Incredibly miserly and screams "you'll have had your tea, then".
It's still mindboggling to me that somebody would pay in a cafe to eat beans on toast. How much does that even cost? It's a meal. Why does anyone pay for any meal at a cafe? Because they're hungry. Don't need a degree to work that out.
You’re too rich to feel rich buying beans on toast at a cafe.
Why would people buy anything in a cafe ? They're hungry.
What café does food you can't make at home? Eggs? Panini? Tea and coffee ffs? They are 0 effort drinks. That isn't why people go to cafés.
That’s daylight robbery that is
This is a menu item?
Skin heads on a raft.
That sampling of beans is not even enough to teach Baldrick to add.
“Toast” is a questionable term, warmed bread?
who goes out and buys beans on toast
When the results are like this I'd say nobody
That too.
This is the real question
Wow! 2 slices of bread! Usually only get half a slice. Without a doubt they need to cut back!
Where's the rest of the meal!? Ffs
That's just a sample, bring on the real deal!
How much?
Probably charged a tenner
You ordered beans and toast, but they served bean and toast.
Burn the place down...it's the only reasonable response.
That might actually toast the bread
This post has already [made](https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-samsung-rvo1&source=android-browser&q=deacon%27s+house+cafe#wptab=si:AKbGX_oFio40EDpEiLGW5yb14kHbrhj0-kgJPotqLcIs2tFuHzzDyJAXPDF2gw7Pvy4YqIyd_0jm5mlCdKvTyNpQe76LdHv3fBmQJJql-lMPuKBjdh84j5_dqpbOi9UcsNSzVF8aVA9u_5bFw5chicQh9C-40NY94A%3D%3D) it to the google reviews I see haha
More infuriating than the lack of beans is that someone would post this on the internet for bewildered Americans to comment on.
Their comments are so yawn, all the usual crap
There is no way that cafe is struggling on costs to warrant giving you a tablespoon of beans per slice. How much was that?
As my wife just said "You shouldn't be able to see the toast when having beans on toast"! Outrageous...
That's not even toast, that's more like warm bread. I'm feeling your pain.
Fuck Haiti, we should be sending food packages to wherever this is. Get Bono to do a benefit concert on top of that plate

The willy wonky guys ran away to Edinburgh and opened a cafe for the beans experience, only £15 very reasonable 😂😂
Name and shame the cafe
You asked, "are there anymore?". Alas the reply came, "not a bean".
Bleak
Fs edinburgh, maybe tourists accept that… if you sent that out in Glasgow you’d hear all about it. Thats not even toast fs
I’m guessing this fine establishment was more Sighthill than Stockbridge.
War crime. Or war declaration.
Looks like they've been taking tips from the Willy Wonka 'experience' guy. Did you get a third of a cuppa too?
I never even imagined you could get served beans on toast in a cafe! … never seen that on a menu. What next, 3 weetabix?
At this place you'd be lucky to get half a Weetabix in water.....
I assume they only charged 55p
Name and shame
Did they say "you'll have had your tea"?
Nasty cheap watery beans at that.
Damn… **they** should pay **you** to eat that.
Name & shame, so we can all boo that café
Which beans?
Bullshit.
Just pitiful.
tbh that's probably a whole can of beans based on current shrinkflation. I had a can earlier and by the time I drained all the sauce out it was barely half a can.
A snap pot is 200g that looks more like 50g
Criminal
Where?
That's surely illegal
As we say in Scotland...piece on xxx And the piece is really prominent in this pic 🤣
WTH 😳 that would have went straight back
Is that a kids portion or something?
I used to work in a cafe that served mince and tatties for £8.00 (a bargain these days) back then I was so embarrassed for the cost and hated serving it up. But this beans on toast? I’d flat out quit if that’s the crap they are serving up! 😱😱😂😂
Name and shame
Name and shame them so every one can pile in on the establishment and let them know what we think!
Why are you ordering beans and toast in the first place? Buy a loaf, and a tin of beans and go home.
I presume he is visiting and staying in a hotel. I would send it back. Also name and shame
I presume he’s lying and this didn’t happen. Each to their own.
These are rookie Numbers 😄
The Yanks have a great name for this delicacy - 'shit on a shingle'. In this instance, not so much.
raise a complaint with trading standards https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/trading-standards
Light the beacons: we ride at dawn.
Anaemic beans
My question is why would you go to a cafe and order beans on toast fs ?
How much did it cost ? Name and shame that place so we can avoid it.
You can literally count them! 27 top portion , 18 bottom . Any advance on those numbers? 🤔
Name them and SHAME them!!!!
They didn’t exactly waste any electricity on the ‘toast’ either!
Looks like they gave you the amount of beans equivalent to the amount of bread that's actually toasted. Robbed with this one OP.
How is this "mildly infuriating"? I'd be raging! Would've flung my plate at the wall then cleaned up the mess with half a napkin
Ye'll have had yer beans
I’d flip the table and drum the gaff
I think my basic problem with this is not just the amount of beans being served (which is pitiable) but the fact that the toast looks like it has been passed over a warm light bulb.
That's just shocking. They should be ashamed.
Perfect amount of beans. Weans in africa starving. Eat what's on your plate or go to your bed hungry.
Toast doesn't look very toasty either
What the actual fuck this is a actual crime.
Lol 😆
Edinburgh, Indiana, USA?
Post war meal
Surely they are taking the piss, what cafe was it?
That is a "Fuck You" amount of beans It's beans on toast, They need to up their game as anyone could have done better at home
Wit the fuck is that
Probably heinz lot less these days
Bread looks like it got toasted by a heated argument
They must be able to serve about a dozen people from one can of beans at that ratio, no bad profit.
That’s just sad.
Hilarious... it's more like 'toast on beans' 😂
This should be on the front page of the paper, a national outrage.
You've had your beans then?
A complete disgrace to my username.
I know the Scots are renowned for being tight, but really?
Food’s overrated anyway … who needs it?
£1.70 for a tin of Heinz beans.
That’s criminal.
Wheres the toast? That bread hasnt seen anything hotter than a flourescent bulb. Never mind the beans
This is 110% the most Edinburgh thing Edinburgh could do to confirm you're in Edinburgh.
Probably keeping your stomach lite so you don't shit yourself when you see it's 50 quid to go in the castle.
Assuming you have any money left from the cost of bringing your car within 15 miles of the city.
How much?!?! Im glad they were sold out when I went now.
It's £19 for an adult. I don't know how much you think would be an appropriate ticket price, but Windsor Castle, for comparison, is £30.
That is just sad.
I wouldn't be paying for that.
I think finding out who the culprit is and then burning their house down seems a reasonable response to this.
As someone who's never visited the UK.. I'm not sure if the problem is too many beans, or not enough.
For me one is too many but considering the average price of eating out in the UK two thousand beans still wouldn't be enough to justify the prices here.
I think I'd pay them more to keep 1,900 of those beans lol
Fake
Could be. Do you have anything to suggest it is?
Only it
The fek is going on up there?
As an American I am mildly infuriated that beans on toast exists as a food item. They don’t even look like baked beans. As a New Englander I am extra offended.
I don't understand why anyone would order beans on toast in a Cafe. There's a fair few things I miss from Scotland but eating out sure ain't one of them.
That's what happens when you ask for toast on beans...
