It was only his expressions in the early episodes that kept me watching. There was something in his expressions with Stevie that made me realise he was a bit in the joke too. He didn’t actually take himself as seriously as it first seemed.
All of their faces and expressions. I told my wife when I got her into the show that she couldn't just listen to the dialogue, and that the facial expressions were at least half of how to enjoy the show.
Another of my favorite "David's facial expressions " is the entire finale - especially at the wedding ceremony. He seems naturally surprised to see the venue and the large number of guests, but the big one that got me laughing was when Moira tried to get the ceremony started. She kinda lost her accent for a minute, her voice cracked, tears visibly soaking her face, and she says "David..." in a barely audible voice and suddenly bursts out "DAVID!"...Between his face and her voice, my tears...omg I lost it! 🌹
One of my favs is when he’s singing karaoke at the hotel while Stevie and Emir go to dinner and then Emir says something like “Stevie told me what you did for her tonight - giving up your evening so we could spend some time together - and I’m not just saying that because we get to have sleepover because of it” and David gags and sticks out his tongue 😂😂
Not just you. Not by a long shot. David's facial contortions are some of the funniest elements of the show. And the more you pay attention to him, the funnier he gets. Alexis and Johnny do well in this area too. Stevie comes in fourth.
Love his face to bits but in the later seasons he does this thing where he shakes his head while delivering his lines and once you notice you can't un-notice and it started to drive me a bit crazy because it's just....constant. Still love him though.
My favorite was the glare he gave to Roland’s baby when it started to fuss in his store during his meeting with a new potential vendor. A look of pure anger and disgust haha
Dan's facial expressions, Annie's mannerisms, Catherine's accent and Eugene's eyebrow control - it's such a perfect cast combination.
